Owls have pellets, while falcons & hawks have castings.

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Hardest part about falconry, when your beloved vizsla has to be put down before her time. June 17th Tana was diagnosed with mammory inflammatory carcinoma. One of the most malignant cancers with the worst prognosis’s for mammory cancer. We fought so hard to give her the best chance but we couldn’t win to our complete heartbreak. The last gift we could give her was a easier passing then her soon to fail lungs would offer. She was at the end. You know it’s time when you wish you had done it the day before. I’m thankful she was able to pass on at our home with those who love her, and that her entire life she was always with us at work, out in the field, and the birds.

Can I ask how did you get into falconry/hawking? How did that hobby (job? bird friend?) come about? love your blog! thanks!

Hi anon, my parents and I would make trips to go bird watching, so I already had a deep love of birds. I was never allowed to have one until I got a rescue galah cockatoo shortly after graduating high school. Then I adopted a African Grey as well. I soaked up any and all information about training birds and operant conditioning.

A friend and her father while we were in high school got into falconry, a few times while they were on vacation I would feed their birds. They knew I loved birds, and it was magical. I wanted to get into falconry so bad but I was going to university. Then I plunged in, and nobody was going to stop me. My friends were my sponsors, so I didn’t need to prove myself and fight to get into the sport. Once my first red tailed hawk was in my life, everything now revolves around falconry. It’s amazing how falconry became the center of my life, it isn’t a hobby but a complete life style. Every single day of my life involves falconry, maybe not always flying but always training and bettering my skills and my birds livelihood ❤️

I hope that answered your question some
