youtooz is releasing a steven universe figurine (alongside ones from adventure time and chowder), it’s nice to see both recent merch and a sort-of acknowledgement that there’s definitely still demand for these things

awww look at this

i wish there were more moments in SU where gems referred to body parts using the ridiculous names peridot called them i need to see other gems calling a foot a "gravity connector"

Rebecca Sugar cooked with "Character whose entire existence is devoted to the service of another character who's now dead and now they have no idea what to do with themselves except live." I love that shit. I forged myself into a tool for you and now you're gone. I'm sniffing this like a bloodhound

"I swore I'd die for you but now you're dead and I have no conception of what it's like to live outside of my devotion to you but now I've no choice but to learn" is already so delicious. But giving that character "Fumbled a BBW and now has to raise her kid" is so much better. There's umami in this

So are we going to talk about how SU Save the Light and Unleash the Light, along with other CN series games, have been taken down from Steam or

the studio who made the light trilogy games didn’t even know. the games had at most a one day warning before they were taken not only from steam but from console shops too. like,, everyone knows david zaslav has been fucking everything over but i’ll be real i didn’t expect the video games to get hit too

update: unleash the light is going to be taken off of apple arcadeβ€”the platform it was originally an exclusive forβ€”very soon. it has no physical release.

i think the craziest thing that happened in regards to how steven universe aired was when they aired the finale of the original show... without telling anyone it was the finale they only announced that that actually was the finale nearly a year later, when they announced SU future for the like 9 months between change your mind and the movie, everyone was extremely confused as to why change your mind sounded so much like a rushed ending when (we thought) season 6 was still coming. It made people have extremely high expectations for the movie cause we thought it would introduce the new plot for s6 instead of being its own standalone thing

Why the hell did they do that

northern hemisphere babes we made it to the longest night of the year. we made it. for the next 6 months, every day will give us a little more daylight than the last. let's go. take my hand. climb out of the darkness with me

southern hemisphere babes, they're stealing our fucking daylight!

SUF was in part about breaking down the saviour archetype. Nobody is eternally giving. Everybody has a limit. The show ended and Steven is free from that role and the intended audience have accumulated image repertoire to go on and create and give as well, the way Steven i.e. the crew did.

If SU does come back who will be the target audience? The show changed the media landscape, but is it to the point the surrounding culture doesnt need something like Steven anymore? Can Steven only come back when the world managed to give back as well?

Like... the cultural capital is there ripe for utilization. I dont think it would come back unless there was a new intention and another thesis to propose. Ngl it would be funny if it went the teen titans route a la ttg, wouldnt put it past the suits.

Im just coping lol because what if it does come back, and I dont love it?

@sevenines theres defs the dichotomy for the kids and adult categories, im confident it would be an adult targeted show.

The shows specifically american but it managed to capture a global audience. However thats when it was a show targeted towards kids... Adults have more specific experiences so imo its inevitable a new iteration may alienate a portion of the former audience.

i remember seeing someone ask "do kids even like su future?" (a lot of them do) but it made me think that future is almost basically the more "adult" continuation people are asking for, and we know how divisive that one got.
