These characters ― the Kaminoans ― I wanted to do a tip of the hat to Steven [Spielberg] in Close Encounters [of the Third Kind], to use a more traditional alien ― the kind that everyone says come on the spaceships that land here on Earth ― and deal with a much more sophisticated society than anything we’ve seen before, that looks different, that is operating on a level that’s even beyond that of Coruscant. And I wanted [Kamino] to be a water planet, because water is where life began. In this case, this is a place where these people create life in the form of clones.
