“Only radical feminists acknowledge that both religious & pornographic subordination of women/girls (two sides of the same coin) arises from male supremacy, biological essentialism/social Darwinism & socially constructed sex caste system, not from female nature.” - /u/MistWeaver80
reading a paper on quality of life among 45-to-70-year-olds with Down syndrome:
“Individuals expressed a desire to be allowed to go to bed when they wanted to.”
:(
Imagine.
I lived in a room and board that failed the burrito test. (”If you’re not allowed to get up in the middle of the night to microwave a burrito, you live in an institution.”) No one stopped me from going to bed, but they did tell me I had to have my lights out by 10, and that I had to be out of the house by 10 the next morning. When I complained to my outpatient program that I needed more help than I was getting, they threatened me with board and care, where my cell phone would be taken away and I would lose contact with the outside world. My case manager sounded so damn smug, like he had caught me out, when he said, “if you’re really as helpless as you say, then you need to be in a board and care.” Like my only options were struggling to do things I couldn’t do, or surrendering my life to an institution.
When I tried to talk about these things with other people, they always rationalized it away. (I told my dad once that my caseworker was reading my e-mails as I wrote them, demonstrating extreme disrespect for my privacy, and he said, “Well, she’s probably making sure you don’t use the internet to goof off.” I was 22 years old.)
People tend to mock the idea that telling an adult when to go to bed, when to eat, etc., is a human rights violation, even though they would find it outrageous and absurd if anyone came into their lives to do the same thing to them.
And this is what people seem to think when they tell disabled activists we’re just not disabled enough to understand that some people really do need to be locked up and deprived of all autonomy.
Remember to boost for demographics!
So idk about other feminists on here but my issue with choice feminism was that it individualizes systemic change and ignores the self harm done by women in an attempt to assimilate into patriarchal culture not that I actually fucking love shaming and blaming women for their own oppression.
And what is so so so SO frustrating to me is that we’ve had this awesome resurgence of feminist thought and activity in response to the insanity of queer politics and there is almost no energy for turning that resurgence into real world systemic change. It’s boiled down to us fighting online about whether or not you can call yourself a feminist if you’ve ever had sex with a man/disregarding the astounding amount of real work that needs to be done to not just protect the women’s rights won in the 20th century but to build on our foremothers and advance women’s social position further.
And you can absolutely say “well we’re just a bunch of women talking online” but I mean…the second wave was also a lot of women talking….and it changed the whole world so? Why not? Why not us? Let’s turn this energy outside yeah? Our enemy isn’t other working class women, it’s a system that denies women control of their bodies and forces them to labor non stop in the area of human social reproduction/carework with no renumeration, recognition or power.
it’s amazing how radblr has invented whole cloth a canon of “radical feminist” thought that has almost nothing to do with any movement history and draws almost exclusively on a bunch of bloggers and like, five books, only half of which are by even self-proclaimed radical feminists
inb4 someone hits me with the OK THEN WHAT SHOULD WE BE READING???
for starters
The Dialectic of Sex - Shulamith Firestone
Firebrand Feminism: The Radical Lives of Ti-Grace Atkinson, Kathie Sarachild, Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, and Dana Densmore - Breanne Fahs
Backlash - Susan Faludi
Without Apology: the Abortion Struggle Now - Jenny Brown
Daring to be Bad: Radical Feminism in America 1967-1975 - Alice Echols
I think a big part of radblr’s problem is the radblr canon has all the “men are evil and violent and have been since the dawn of time” books and none of the “so this is what we do about it” ones
also a loooooot of dwelling on the personal at the expense of the political. feminism is not about self-help, actually. it’s about finding a path toward collective liberation by analyzing the conditions of our lives, and what we have in common!
luckily, women figured out how to get that ball rolling 50 years ago — and they wrote a lot about it, too. let’s give it another good kick!
Soon, we’ll have an AI that search porn actresses that resembles your crush.
Soon we’ll have AI that delivers an immediate drone strike when you do that uwu
Caroline Farrow, an English feminist and forum participant currently the target of bizarre vexatious litigation from TRAs, was arrested for posts on the forums Kiwifarms and Mumsnet not made by her.
It's 'ACAB' until they're siccing them on women for wrongthink.
When was the last time police arrested a male for sending graphic rape threats to a woman? Surely, if they have the time for this it is because they've already arrested 50% of the British men active on Reddit?
Exactly. UK police forces have been proven to be institutionally incompetent, racist, misogynist, and homophobic, but they are all Stonewall compliant and doing shit like this.
Yesterday I almost cried because my baby cousin ran up to my grandmother and was like. “Ha! Buhbuh ba ha.” And she said okay you want to show me something? And he led her over to the garden patch and crouched down and pointed at rocks and plants and was like. “Ah. Habah ba ah” as she listened attentively.
And I was like that happened 1,000 years ago. Probably 10,000 years ago. Maybe 100,000. The youngest human in a group went to the oldest one and said to the best of their ability “come see.” And the adult went.
this is such a beautiful post it doesn't need my dumb addition, but i can't fit this in the tags. at the archaeological site Dolni Vestonice in the Czech Republic there are a bunch of really really fascinating finds and I'm only going to tell you about one tiny detail of one of the most interesting sites in the world.
at this settlement 20-30,000 years ago there lived a person who appears to have been a sort of sorcerer-grandmother-ceramics artist and her workshop was preserved very well in the sedimentary layers. her hut where she had her kilns was full of little sculptures of animals and people that seem to have been made to explode in the kiln on purpose, we're not sure why but nevermind. the relevant detail is that when you sculpt something with your hands and then fire it, your fingerprints can be preserved in the surface of the clay forever, so we have fingerprints of ancient ceramics artists that have survived for tens of thousands of years. and one of the major artifacts from Dolni Vestonice has a fingerprint on it that is so small it could only have belonged to a child
so this shaman-grandmother-sculptor, who was buried with her pet fox by the way, had children running through her workshop and touching everything she made while she was at her mysterious work of creating the world's oldest ceramics, none of which appear to be bowls, bottles, pots, or any "useful" items at all, but rather a collection of animal and human and sometimes anthropomorphic figures, some of which appear to be self portraits. exactly the same as sandersstudios' grandmother being led to the garden by an excited baby. we've all been the same for 30,000 years.
"minorites have more societal obstacles to overcome" me when i'm not complicit in racism
My dude, do you think that those societal obstacles just crop up from the void out of nowhere? Or rather, do you think that I think that? No, the obstacles that are faced by minorities in America come from America's long history of beating down minorities.
So for context for anyone on here, this is in reply to one of my tweets discussing why affirmative action is good, actually, specifically after the Supreme Court ruled against it (Including the context of the tweet and the specific tweet that the anon is referring to)
So first of all, really cool and brave of you to come at me anonymously on a completely different website instead of just replying to the tweet itself.
Second of all, I don't see how this makes me complicit in racism, unless your idea of racism is so shallow that it couldn't even get your shoes wet. Turns out the structures in place in America make it way more difficult to succeed if you're of a certain minority versus if you're white. That's just the truth of the matter. So I don't mind if colleges account for the difficulty that's present for those who face it when looking at applicants. Because if it was simply based on results, then those who are less fortunate would find it way harder since those obstacles would get in the way of attaining those results.
Hope this helped. And if it didn't, whine about it on Twitter next time. I prefer having these discussions over there, at least until it collapses.
I do wholeheartedly believe Wes Anderson is a sick sick freak. I like his movies but I definitely think this guy has like a hidden room in his spacious french apartment that he slips into quietly each night and it is just filled with tiny little doll replicas of all the actors he's ever used in any of his movies and he puppets them around and mimicks their voices and shit. and sometimes he'll text Owen Wilson pictures of his little doll with a comb or something from an untraceable number and pair it with like "see how I take care of you Owen?" and then the following day Owen Wilson will find him at the service table and go, "Geez Wes look at this," and Wes will pretend to be all concerned and horrified but there is this calculating almost eager look in his eyes that unsettles Owen Wilson. and the next time Wes is having a little soiree with all his actors, his beloved beloved actors, maybe Owen Wilson will accidentally get lost on his way to the beautiful bathroom and find that little room and see all those dolls and his throat will hitch with horror. And before he can call Bill Murray or Adrian Brody to look a dark silhouette will appear in the doorway and Wes looks sort of resigned when he says, "I see you finally found my secret, Owen," and Owen Wilson will try and pretend that he's fine with it but they both know better. and Wes will go (the look in his eyes back again) "We both know this can't get out, right?" and he'll grin very suddenly and Owen Wilson will laugh along very nervously and leave the room and eat some brioche and when the evening is over he will rush over to his Prius and frantically click his keys but over the cobbles on the beautiful beautiful street there is the sound of footsteps. and tears are running down Owen Wilson's cheeks but he can't say a word and Wes, emerging from the shadows, will gently touch him on the shoulder and say, "look, I'll drive you to the airport, huh?" and Owen Wilson will try to refuse but they both know it's futile. and, halfway through the drive, Wes Anderson will smile and say, "I'll miss working with you" and then perfectly jump and roll out of the car, wiping off his corduroy pants, while Owen Wilson's Prius swerves into a local patisserie, bursting into flames
And I know it's silly to care this much about meal prep sunday but it's actually one of the most effective strategies against my eating disorder.
Making food is really, really hard for me. Especially when I'm already hungry. It's way too easy for me to get spun up in disordered thoughts and decide it's just easier not to eat.
But on meal prep sunday, I can eat a big breakfast and spend a few hours cooking. Since I'm not hungry while cooking, and I'm not planning on eating the food immediately, my ED voice is a lot quieter. (Not totally silent - sometimes I'll start getting weird about portion sizes - but much easier to handle.)
Then, when it's time to eat, I don't have to make food. The food is there. I get to skip the part where my ED talks me out of making food. I still have to deal with the disordered thoughts about actually eating the food, but it's a lot fewer potential points of failure. I'm much, much more likely to actually eat the food.
I love meal prep sunday.
fun fact! did you know that you can gain extra ‘forbidden time’ by staying up late in the night? but Watch Out
10h
"In the instance an employer makes an illegal request for a photograph as part of a job application, you may submit a complaint to the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission." Successful violation fee collections are paid partially to the one who suffered the violation, which in many cases exceeds a year of work at these shit jobs. There's only two weak points to a corporation, and those are in the budget and in the supply chain. Hit them where it hurts.
Set up a sign in front of your camera that reads “That is none of your business actually” for 5 solid minutes. Then report them.
i don’t know nyall. does this not make you wanna Go Cr*zy Go N-V-T-S Nuts?
Now show me a similiar map showing how many false rape accusations happen
Well, “false rape accusations” can be classified into 2 categories:
1. Unfounded, i.e., a report that has been proven false or a report that has been proven baseless
And 2. Unsubstantiated, i.e, any report that cannot be proven true because of the little amount of evidence available or issues with the victim’s cooperation and statement.
In a study done in 8 US communities with 2,059 cases reported, 7.1% were found to be false reports. Another study done in Boston with 136 cases, 5.8% were found to be false. When researches studied 812 reports, 2.1% was found to be false. In all of these studies, all the false reports were unfounded reports and unsubstantiated reports, in other words these are reports that cannot be proven but also simply deemed a false allegation because the victim “would not comply” or had “inconsistent statements.” (x) For a rape allegations to be processed as true, a victim has to do a lot of work on their part to provide that proof, which is difficult to do when it’s rape or sexual assault unless it was caught on tape or there was bodily fluids to be studied. This means that it is actually very easy for a rape allegation to be deemed false, even if it actually did happen.
It is also important to note that fake allegations rarely even lead to the accused getting jailed as a lot of you love to claim. “A useful article in Quartz by Sandra Newman points to research from the British Home Office showing that in the early 2000s, of the 216 cases that were classified as false allegations, only six led to an arrest. Of those, only two had charges brought against them and those two were found to be false.” (x)
Rape and sexual assault are reportedly the crimes that are the least under-reported, under-prosecuted and under-convicted. (x)
Fake rape allegations make up such a small percent of the rape allegations and out of that small percent, the amount that are genuinely fake, not only deemed so because the police called could not or would not look for evidence and/or the victim was being so maltreated they decided to withdraw the allegation, must be even smaller.
But of course, you don’t care. You saw a graph that showed the amount of harm women face around the world and your first thought wasn’t compassion, or worry, it was to ask said women to talk about the fictitious war going on against martyred men who get accused of rape.
Exhibit 2252
They made a board game about stripping... why does this sound like a shitty wannabe monopoly with just that extra dash of gratuitious misogyny
As a former stripper, this is deeply distasteful and probably not made by anyone with experience in the industry.
"Ends the night with the most money". Is that before or after you need to pay your pimp, the guy who owns or manages the club, most of the money you earned for the "privilege" of working there?
If you really want to win or need the cash does he tell you that you suck his dick or fuck him so he let you keep a little extra, just like real life?
Do you still need to pay the bouncer so he doesn't allow a man to assault or rape you or assault or rape you himself? Does he raise his rate knowing you have to pay it if you want him to drive you around the block to where you hid your car so a stalker doesn't follow you back home? Does it include the money for therapy when he assaults or rapes you anyways knowing there is nothing you can do about it because to the club and the police you're just another whore?
Do you get a drug inventory because you have to drink or smoke or pop pills or snort or shoot up or all of the above just to get through your job? Do they know your pimp is also your dealer who supplies you drugs on the cheap so you have to keep coming back to the club to get them? Do they know he can use them to blackmail you into working without pay, prostitution, or he can just turn you over to the cops if he likes?
Do the other players, other strippers, go missing? Do you find out they went to jail or rehab or the hospital or ODed or got killed by their boyfriend/husband/stalker or killed themselves or got trafficked or prostituted? Or do they just stop showing up and no one knows why and you just move on with your life never knowing what happened and never getting too attached to anyone because it could happen to them too. Do you lie to yourself and say "she's just probably working a different club now" or "she probably got out" to make yourself feel better?
Do you perform more and more disgusting or degrading acts to make more money, like acting out incest fantasies? Do you lie about your sexual history and age to seem young and virginal because you know all of the men old enough to be your grandfather are pedophiles but also have lots of money?
Do they acknowledge the stripping to prostitution pipeline because you need the money or he has blackmail on you or the peer pressure from other strippers or you get coerced/manipulated or he is going to force himself on you anyways so you might as well make a buck or you get trafficked?
Can you get extra cash for letting the club tattoo their name on you, like a cattle brand, just like real life? Do you still have to pay huge amounts of cash for a closet full of cheap lingerie you are required to wear?
Does it factor in the cost of doctor and hospital visits you will require because of yeast infections from wearing lingerie for hours, toxic shock from having to shove tampons up yourself and cut off the strings so you can work on your period, physical therapy due to having your legs and back ruined by heels, STIs from men trying to get their spit and blood and semen on you or from being prostituted, plastic surgery to look more attractive to clients, all the physical damage of frequent and heavy drug use, and all the CPTSD and other issues you're desperately pushing down and ignoring and lying to yourself about because you're scared if you acknowledge them that you'll either not be able to do your job anymore (and no where will take a former whore) or you'll finally break?
Do you have to explain to your landlord or bank or auto dealer where you get your money so you can rent or get a loan or buy a car? Do you have awkward conversations with friends or family trying to find a lie about what goes on in your life? When you try to make new friends or date do you debate whether or not you can trust them to know what you do for work? When you find out they're fetishizing you do you break things off? Do you have to make something up about the gap in your resume or are you honest and watch your employer look at you knowing they're assessing whether or not they would undress you? Do you isolate yourself so you don't have to deal with it all? Does that factor into play?
Because, that sounds like a fun game, doesn't it? One where you get sicker and sicker and poorer and poorer and more and more stuck.
Strippers are not empowered women holding their sexuality over men to trick them out of their money. Strippers are livestock at an auction waiting to be taken to the slaughter house of prostitution.
You're not the burger flipper who is selling her work making patties, you're the cattle, ground into meat for male consumption.
But what if the children LIKED to eat lead paint. That's their CHOICE.
The child says they will kill themselves unless we give them a lobotomy. We must obviously give the lobotomy. Or they will order an ice pick online with cutesy anime girl packaging.
Have you considered getting mental help?
Thanks, Ace-Pervert, I've never considered that. I'll look into it asap. Let's hope I'm not prescribed to have perfectly healthy and necessary organs removed and then have to be on pills or injections for the rest of my life.
Update I've been scheduled for my chemical castration and lobotomy but luckily the surgeon is letting me bundle them for a massive deal. Can't wait to finally become my true self via paying $100,000 to people who surely have my best intentions hidden in their open pockets
Update I have necrotizing fasciitis
Don't say that! You're making it harder for other people to access lead paint and lobotomies :(
