no offence but i think a lot of us me included don’t actually want romantic love as badly as we think and really are just lonely and crave a closeness and intimacy that feels out of reach in friendships because of society’s emphasis on marriage and the nuclear family so we project that into the never ending search for a perfect love and a soulmate when really we all just want to mean something to someone

I'm now 50% into book I and I have to say this has the same feels as Nirvana in fire. The politics is damn intense and I'm not clever enough lol. I need some funny scenes to lift up the mood pls.
Was falsely reassured by the characters' relationship map, now I know better. When the plot thickens, nothing will help you understand as much as the actual text in the book and your own reading comprehension lol.

Xue Zhengyong is such a loving himbo and I adore him for that. This guy loves his family so much, the first thing he does when the slightest hint of danger occurs is shoving his son behind him to protect him. Or the absolute terror in his face when someone is threatening his wife. Or how he just 100% believes in Mo Ran being good. Celestial judges, chosen by Gods themselves could condemn him and Xue Zhengyong would still pledge for his innocence.
The way he openly shows how proud he is of his boys, even though we all know that they aren't "his" boys. And he knows it too. But is there any doubt in his voice when he calls Xue Meng his son? No. There was not a single thought of doubt in him when Madam Wang asked him to raise the son of another man. Only care and unconditional love.
Really, it's no surprise that Chu "Protect the Common Folk" Wanning ultimately chose Sisheng Peak. In this sea of sect leaders full of greed, hatred and lies, there is the leader of Sisheng Peak who offers help and protection for a ridiculously low price, sometimes even for free when the people are too poor. A man who wants to spends millions of gold to provide all villages in need with protection stones. Meanwhile, others are using these precious stones as decoration to build a path to their own door step.
TLDR: Come on, how can you not fall in love with a guy who unironically and lovingly calls Madam Wang his "wifey" in his very first entrance scene?
If I can recommend you do 1 low-effort thing for the love of God it is this:
Keep 5 cards in your pocket. One will say "yes", the second will say "no."
If you lose your voice, or lose speech, or want to make a dramatic embellishment at the right time, it is an elegant and efficient solution that is right there at hand.
But what if people question you from there? "Why do you have that card? Why would you do this? How long have you had that in your pocket?" For this, or whatever else they say, the third card: "I don't have a card for that."
"What the fuck," they ask. They laugh. They are bemused. You bring the energy back down with the fourth card: "I have laryngitis. I've lost speech. My throat hurts". Whatever you expect to occur.
The joke is over. Rule of threes. Now they are curious. YThey wonder about logistics. "How did you know I would say that? Is everyone so predictable?"
As a three-part bit, nobody ever sees the fifth card coming.

Have to say, House MD is the only show that really does live up to the hype on tumblr.

The show oscillates between radically protective of vulnerable people, and the most mean spirited takes possible in the name of edginess.
House and Wilson really do have the wildest little fucked up relationship you’ve ever seen.
It’s like the opposite of the Yo, Mr White meme, where’s every joke post is just a canonical scene from this damn show.

part of the reason i like tumblr and i think part of the reason it has the unhinged je nai se quois that it does, is that unlike pretty much every other public social media platform these days, it allows for the "unpalatable weird" without any chance of it making it back to a professional regular adult or the creator of media in any capacity. on twitter, even if you're using an alt account, the guy who writes the book is there and might see your post (here, neil gaiman is here, but hes like, cool about it - the tumblr etiquette has always been that they are in our house, and not vice versa), and the only person who can be deranged under their own name is ppl who dont worry about professional consequences.
i had more to say about this but im getting tired but tldr: im a corporate lawyer and tumblr is the only place im not worried about my employer finding out how much i post about wizards, and i think that mindset is why tumblr is Like This - because its a social space where ppl who have something to lose (professional dignity) can be weird about wizards.
