oh, why’d you have to be so cute?

it’s impossible to ignore you, ah.

Music fills the entire house that belongs to Chris Evans who happens to be gathering quite a crowd with the story he’s telling, and among those people resides Elizabeth and her best friend Y/N. Being great friends for nine years, she wanted Y/N to tag along to one of the many parties for the celebration of infinity war being such a huge success. It was a miracle that she was even here since large parties aren’t her style. In this packed house, the only people she knew were the cast members, so she felt pressure to socialize with random strangers instead. When Elizabeth came over unannounced with a shopping bag basically commanding Y/N to attend Chris’ party tonight, she didn’t have much of a choice. So here she is glued to Elizabeth's side in a dress that’s way too expensive and drinking white wine that she didn’t even like. Her eyes venture from Chris to the new figure who joined the circle a few minutes later. Her heart drops into the middle of her stomach when those blue irises meet hers. He’s dressed in all black from head to toe; The only pop of color located on him are the small daisies imprinted all over the dark sheer shirt. The brown locks that were slowly starting to grow back out are a disheveled mess, but no matter how he wore it, he still looks so cute. The warmth creeping across her cheeks when he gives her a warm smile is almost too much for her to bear, so she glances down at the empty wine glass in her clammy palms. Her saying that she didn’t know he was going to be here was a ridiculous statement. Of course, he was. this is, in fact, one of his closest friend’s parties and for the movie he is in so why wouldn’t he show up? Y/N didn’t hate Sebastian, that couldn’t be further from the truth, but the last thing she wanted was to make a fool out of herself. Elizabeth noticed it, too. That’s another reason she invited Y/N to this party in the first place. For three years, she’s watched her best friend crush over the Romanian actor, and offered on many occasions to set her up, but she refused. When she wanted to try to pursue a relationship with him, then she would do it on her terms. Little did Y/N know that that was something Sebastian wanted ever since they met in 2015.

The first time they met was on the set of Civil War. Y/N had an extra week of vacation that she had to burn and decided to pay Elizabeth a surprise visit. For a while now, she’s been trying to get Y/N to drop by sets so she can show her the behind the scenes but she has been too busy to ever get the chance to. However, when she finally got the free time, Y/N found herself flying halfway across the world to Germany where part of the movie was being filmed. The first day she stepped on set, she thought it was going to be her last when Elizabeth literally sprinted in the middle of shooting to embrace her friend in a bear hug. Thankfully, the directors let her stay after the two promised about no more distractions. Y/N enjoyed herself during the first day where she met most of the cast and got to watch the actresses and actors in action. It wasn’t until the second day when she met Sebastian. She held a hand to her forehead to help block out the bright rays of the sun and she regrets not bringing a baseball cap. It was about halfway through their workday, and most of it was spent outside. The temperature was warm, but it wasn’t nothing compared to what summers were like back home: hot, humid, and sometimes downright unbearable. Elizabeth had been with her on the sidelines until she was called; this time it was for a costume change. So Y/N stood by herself, watching intently as the stunt doubles did countless kicks and flips through the air. Hypnotized by their talent, she jumps out of the trance by a warm hello that comes in beside her followed by chuckle responding to her reaction. Her hand fell over her racing heart in an attempt to slow it down, but the beats remained the same when she turned to the culprit. When her eyes meet Sebastian’s, she could feel her face flush hot with embarrassment. She managed to catch a few glimpses of him on screen before Elizabeth pulled her away to her trailer to relax for the rest of the afternoon. From far away, he was cute, but this close up, he was breathtaking. He smiled at her as he apologized for frightening her. “It’s okay; I guess I was a little too invested,” She gestured to the stunt doubles who are resetting the scene for a better take.

Before Y/N set foot on set, one of the things that Elizabeth talked about non-stop was her best friend. She mentioned her so often that Sebastian felt like he knew her already, yet this was the first time they ever met. Elizabeth painted a picture in his mind as well as the few photos he had seen on her Instagram, so when he spotted her on the way back to set, he had to introduce himself. However, no picture could capture how beautiful she was in person. It almost rendered him speechless. “Are you the friend Elizabeth keeps talking about?”

“That depends on if the things she’s saying are good or bad.” He laughed lightly at her wittiness.

“They’re good, trust me. I wouldn’t be standing here wanting to know your name if they weren’t.” The giggle that fell from her lips made a rosy blush appear across his nose that could just be played off by Germany heat, or from the costume he wore. She told him her name shortly after and when he repeated it back to her with a smirk, it was like music to her ears. To this day, it was rare that he ever used it since he mainly stuck with the cute little nicknames he had for her. He held out a hand for her to shake. “I’m Sebastian,” Her small hand fit snug in his large, warm palm like a missing puzzle piece. Even though it’s been three years since that moment, that feeling is still present whenever she’s around him and vice versa.

Sebastian’s blue eyes admire the off-shoulder dress that flows down her figure before brushing the wooden floor, the white lace complimenting her skin tone beautifully. She has the appearance of an angel who just walked down from the clouds of heaven. Sebastian hasn’t even spoken to her tonight and yet those nerves begin to arise. Giving him one last glance, she turns to Elizabeth asking if she would like a refill on her wine although hers is still half full. In all honesty, she just needed an excuse to run from those hypnotizing blue eyes that caused her to melt inside. Shrugging, Elizabeth handed over her glass with a small smile then turned back to Chris when Y/N headed to the kitchen. It wasn’t but a minute later as she watches the Romanian actor break away from a conversation to trail after her best friend. Her heart warms with delight at the sight and she can’t help the smirk creeping across her painted lips.

The sounds from the party are fainter from her spot in the kitchen, giving her slight relief from a headache she’s obtaining. Y/N pulls the cork out of the half empty bottle of white wine with a pop then sets it on the counter. She refills Elizabeth’s glass to just an inch below the brim then tips the bottle to fill her own; she halts when she spots the giant bowl of ice with various types of beer stuck throughout. Setting the bottle on the counter, she went over and plucked a malt beer out of the bucket before returning to grab Elizabeth’s glass. She managed to get to the doorway of the kitchen when she’s met with blue eyes again. “Hi,” He breaths and she replies with the same in a soft tone. “I didn’t know that you were here.”

“With this many people, I’m not surprised,”

“Honestly, I’m shocked that you’re here at all, doll. You hate this kind of stuff,” He takes a small sip of the beer in his palm. She shrugs shyly, then steps out of the doorway so people can venture into the kitchen. “Liz came over earlier with this dress and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Trust me, Seb. I’m not here willingly.” He chuckles.

He gestures to the outfit with his pointer finger. “Well if it makes you feel better, I think you look really nice tonight,” His compliment causes her face flush hot with flattery then bites the inside of her bottom lip.

“Thanks, Sebastian. You look great, too. I especially like the daises,” He chuckles nervously, then thanks her before they both fall silent. He averts his gaze to the ground while she looks to the side. The tension radiating between them is awkward like they’re both waiting for each other to make the first move. He clears his throat then proceeds to speak to clear the air, but she has the same thought so the pair of sentences crashes together making each other laugh.

“You go first, sorry,” He offers, but she shakes her head, allowing him to start. “I was just going to ask if you’d like to get out of here? Maybe do something a little more your speed?”

“What did you have in mind?”

“There’s that new pizza place downtown that I heard was pretty good. We can give that a try, then maybe drive around the city?” He smiles. “Anything you want,”

“Okay,” She returns the gesture. “Let’s go,”

why must you make me laugh so much?

it’s bad enough we get along so well.

Y/N weaved through the crowd with Sebastian following close behind her after she dropped off Elizabeth’s wine that she promised. Thankfully, no teasing came from her end when Y/N informed her. Just a quick wink enough to pull color to her cheeks and roll her eyes. They exited Chris’ home then made their way to Sebastian’s black Jaguar. Only the bass from the music can be heard echoing outside the house as well as the chirping crickets appreciating the night. Sebastian clicked a button on the keyfob, unlocking the car before he jogs over to the other side to open the passenger door for her. She thanks him sweetly as she climbs inside. The engine roars to life after Sebastian turns the keys then off to the city they go. Occasionally as he drives, he glances over to the beauty sitting right next to him, trying to fight the boyish smile from appearing on his lips. She’s leaned forward in the seat admiring the approaching the city lights as well as the endless amounts of stars in the sky that sparkle brightly. After ten minutes, she sits back, tilting her head up so she can peer out of the sunroof instead, trying to catch one final glimpse of the dots in the sky before the buildings took over; her fingers gently tapping against her clothed thigh to the beat of the song currently playing on the radio. Sebastian’s eyes fall down to his hand that rested on his denim-clad thigh before driting back over to hers. Swallowing thickly, he then sinks his teeth into his bottom lip contemplating this move. It’s not long before the city overtakes the rolling hills of the countryside. Rejecting the idea, he just settles for conversation yet again. “If you could have anything in the world right now what would it be?”

She raises her brow then Sebastian laughs. “What? It’s a serious question.” Pursing her plump lips, she ponders the question for an answer she’s willing to share, but there is only one thing that comes to mind. A chance with you. She answers silently when her sparkling eyes fall on him, and a small giggle escapes her lips. “What’s so funny?” She often imagines what it would be like to wake up next to him in the morning, or doing cute domestic things around the house. Too caught up in the daydream, the words begin to fall from her lips.

“A chance with-” She halts in the middle of the sentence with wide eyes, her gaze falling to her lap quickly. A nervous laugh escapes as her brain scrambles to find an answer while Sebastian pulls his brows together curiously. “No, no, I got something better than that.” Y/N turns to him with a fake smile. “Do you remember those pictures that I showed you of that dog? That is my answer,” Which is the furthermost from the truth she could get.

He lets out a short laugh. “Out of everything in the entire world? You want a dog?”

“Do I need to show you those seven pictures again?” He shakes his head with a playful smirk, replying with a quick no. “Okay, Sebastian, same question to you.”

His hands slide down on the steering wheel so they grip the bottom of it as the car comes to a red light. “To let loose and not be scared of the consequences,” He sighs, averting his gaze over to her. The glow from the spotlight illuminating the entire interior of the car in a red glow. “What do you mean?”

The fact that it goes right over her head causes a wave of certain doubt to flood over him. “T-There’s just been some things I’ve wanted to do.. for my career and I’ve  been afraid of what might happen if I do.” He turns back to the street when the light turns green.

“We only have one life to live and only a certain number of days to enjoy it,” She adds with a smirk as she unbuckles her seatbelt when they stop in front of the pizza place. “So if you wanna let loose then I say fucking go for it,”

The waitress leads them to a booth that’s somewhat secluded for a little more privacy and their previous conversation continues. Dinner consists of plenty of bad jokes, laughter, lingering eye contact, and shy smiles. For the past three years, he’s grown to know Y/N like the back of his hand. From the smallest details about her life to her darkest secret that he’d keep forever, Y/N is one of the most sacred things in his life. What he would give to know if this burning love deep within his heart was mutual, but the fear of scaring away the shy woman would hurt more than he could ever imagine. So all this time, he’s kept quiet, showing her affection in ways that just a friend could, but those words certainly stuck in his brain.

we’d be good, we’d be great together.

oh, why’d you have to be so cute?

it’s impossible to ignore you, ah.

why must you make me laugh so much?

it’s bad enough we get along so well.

The pair drives around the starlit city for another hour, weaving through buildings to even heading back out on the country roads. Her hair whipping in the wind when he rolled down the windows or the way her hand follows each bump and curve in the hills is something he won’t forget. The moon is high in the midnight sky when he arrives at her townhouse; the two laughing at something Chris had said a few days ago. When it dies down, their eyes linger on one another for what seems like an eternity. Sebastian is the first to look away, “Thank you for coming out with me tonight; I had a lot of fun,”

“Me, too,” She whispers. “It was nice,”

He swallows his nerves. Even with her encouraging words burning in the back of Sebastian’s brain, he struggles to piece together what to say next. “Y-yeah, absolutely,” Is the only thing he managed to blurt out. Her heart falters at his words so she just gives him a smile that riddled with sadness.

“Goodnight Sebastian,”

She steps out of the car after he mumbles a small night, and watches as she approaches the stairs to her home hesitantly. A small fire of hope burning in the pit of her stomach that he’d climb out of that car and say something else. However, she’s met with silence. Y/N continues up the cement stairs and pulls out the keys before turning back to give the car one final glance. Sebastian clenches his jaw when she inserts the key into the lock and twists it open, then softly closes it behind her. He rests his head on the steering wheel in frustration before regretfully driving away.
