headcanon that Lily and Severus adopted a stray puppy at Cokeworth when they were children and raised it, when they broke up their friendship Lily kept the dog, Sev accepted because he knew it would be better off with her, sadly it died some days after their graduation from a car crash, they cried and buried the dog together.

another reason why I hate the "lily was actually looking for a way to get rid of snape, she didnt care abt him and probably joined in making fun of him after SWM" interpretation its because its very fucking sad and weird? like kudos to people who think that way but I hate it. (not to mention, I doubt snape would keep caring about lily if thats how she behaved for 2 years after SWM? she snaped at him but only after he said something terrible to her)

I like to think lily suffered their separation in silence and would glare murderly whenever people said anything about snape in front of her after SWM, I can see her saying something like "yes, X, I called him snivellous once, doenst mean you get to do it, now hush, I dont wanna talk about him".

Deep down she never stopped caring, even against her best judgment, even when she told hersef she souldn´t, which is why James had to keep their hexing in secret, it makes sense too.

Headcanon that Snape’s friendship with Lily is both pure and also riddled with omissions on Snape’s part. Like, he say things in halves.

Like, he said his father didn’t like much things. He didn’t mention that his father also didn’t like him and his mom.

He said his mother is a pureblood witch who goes to Slytherin, he didn’t mention that she was kicked out because she married his father.

He said that people at Hogwarts doesn’t look at blood purity, which is true enough, since his mother said that the headmaster is a muggle-lover. He didn’t mention there was an opposition from people like his mother’s family.

He said that he didn’t care about blood-purity or getting along with the pretentious Slytherins. But he didn’t mention there was a niggling feeling in his heart, which says, “If mam didn’t marry da, I might be able to hold my head like that.”

He said that the four Gryffindor were just foolish chuckleheads. He didn’t mention that sometimes their actions truly hit him where it hurts.

It was these things that Lily gradually understood as she grew alongside Severus and it was these things that gradually eat away at their closeness. For all her care and knowledge of him, Lily was still too much of a Gryffindor to know how to dig out every omitted halves of her bestfriend’s words. She knew he didn’t do it to lie or cover things up, but at the same time she just didn’t know how to figure her bestfriend out.

It was these things which draws her to the other Gryffindors. Spirited people who lived by their own sense of righteousness and always unwilling to wrong themselves by shutting up. Oh, she didn’t realise yet, how far some of them could take things out of their (mistaken) sense of moral superiority. But at that point, she was enjoying talking things out in clear words.

Severus himself also knows this. It was also these things which drew him to other Slytherins.

Because every summer, Lucius would say that a potion store branch of Malfoy family is in a sudden need of workers and invite him to stay over for easy transport.

And Narcissa would always inadvertently mentioned things about his postures or pureblood social etiquette he didn’t know existed.

And Barty would keep wondering about being a potioneer despite already deciding on working in the ministry since fourth year. He would talk all about insider news on the potion industry and how to gain his mastery.

And Evan would take him as a date to a Prince ball because “his original date cancelled, and he already said he would bring a plus one to the host”.

And Bella would invite him to magical duels because “he looks annoying” with a grin on her face and she would take the time to tell him the rules and etiquette of duelling that bores her to death.

And Andy would ground him with whispers about her date with Ted and how they both connect though born in very different culture.
