Bretagne, a 16-year-old golden retriever, last surviving search dog who helped to find survivors after the Twin Towers came down on September 11 has died. Suffering from kidney failure and no longer eating, she was put to sleep on Monday, June 6, 2016. A row of firefighters stood at attention as Bretagne walked with her owner, Denise Corliss, into the Fairfield Animal Hospital. Bretagne assisted in rescuing survivors of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks and went on to take part in rescue missions during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and Ivan. Rest in Peace brave girl.
