Look what I stumbled across while going through my old files! It’s my original drawing for the family picture that replaces Rose’s on the wall!
It's me, Becky! I'm available for character design work in June!
I've been the lead character designer on Steven Universe, Adventure Time and the Big City Greens Movie! I've designed on Star vs The Forces of Evil, LEGO Movie 2 & more! My clients include Disney, Cartoon Network, Dreamworks, Universal, Warner Bros and Nickelodeon!

do you think artists who dont go to big private art schools can still find opportunities to work in the animation industry?
i go to a UWStout for animation, but it always feels like people find more connections from much bigger schools
You can definitely make it without some big fancy school!
I have friends who never even went to art school who work in animation. I did not get any animation connections from my art school at all and I did not do the animation program. I learned character design on my own and I met the people who helped me find jobs at group gallery shows and comic conventions.
Art school was most useful to me because I had friends and we really motivated each other to make more art and get better.
You can do it!
Hey, sorry to bring up an old post! But I saw your fan art of Conker (which was incredibly cute), and wondered why you disliked the games so much. 0w0”
I love the conker design and I love him in Diddy Kong racing, but the tone of the games is pretty rough and very South Park-y and of the time. I really liked how cute conker was and was bummed out that he was rude as hell! Also the game is really hard to play.
How did you get that position? Did you go to school for animation or anything like that?
I went to Savannah College of Art & Design to study Sequential Art (comics). I didn’t really think animation was an option for me, even though I desperately wanted to do it. I mostly made a name for myself outside of cartoons, making webcomics, going to conventions, doing gallery shows. I ended up meeting a lot of my friends who ended up working in animation from that community. My first work was on Yo Gabba Gabba, where I boarded, designed and painted the short Mermaids. A lot of the animation on that show was from folks outside animation, from there I found my way into freelance character design on Bee & Puppycat, then props design due to some friends of mine on Star vs The Forces of Evil. When the character design position came up on Star, I did a test for it and managed to get it. From there I just kept on specializing in character design. After about five years I ended up in a lead/supervisor role!
Hey, looks like capture creature 27 and earlier aren't showing up? Not sure if it's just me or what. Also around #40-50 the tag switched from "capturecreatures" to "capture creatures" which made it a bit difficult to check them all out.
I’m going to start re-posting all of Capture Creatures!!!
I made this while I was working as Lead Character Designer on Steven and I honestly have no recollection as to why I made it lol.
Some detail shots of my kitten painting! Painted in gouache on watercolor paper! It’s still available for purchase on our store! Also check out the video of me painting it!
This was the animation test that got me my job as Lead Character Designer on the Steven Universe Movie and Steven Universe Future. My favorite part is the first one, where I got to design my own gem fusion. I also had to do a turn of Snowflake Obsidian and a Pose/Expression sheet of Opal, and Garnet in a wedding dress based on a board. Working on the movie and show was such a dream, I miss it <3
My most recent commission painting. Traditionally painted in gouache on watercolor paper.
It was really cool to get to draw some Finn and Jakes when I was on Adventure Time Distant Lands, it felt very full circle for me! I took a character design test when Adventure Time first started. The test was mailed to me in New Zealand. I didn’t get the job, I also did a pretty bad job on the test LOL! I think I did it in markers? But 10+ years later I got to be lead character designer on Adventure Time! Shout out to Danny, who did this turn of Jake that I modified to be in ice!
Here are some special poses that I did as character designer for the Star vs the Forces of Evil episode Ghost of Butterfly Castle. I love to draw cool shading and also a lot of accessories on a character, so here’s a bit of both!
Some special poses that I drew as Lead Character Designer for the Steven Universe episode Volleyball! I love to draw cool shading and fabric folds! Also Mega Pearl is a blast to draw.
Hey! It’s me Becky again! Please have more cartoons with monsters in them, so I can character design them!!! Anyways, here are some more monsters I drew as Character Designer on Star vs the Forces of Evil, Adventure Time and Steven Universe Future!
Some cloud people, distance models and a head exploding that I drew for “Adventure Time: Together Again” as Lead Character Designer! Rumble Jaw was the code name the production used so people wouldn’t work out we were making more Adventure Time! If you haven’t seen these specials, they’re on HBO Max and they’re awesome!
Here are a few special poses I drew as character designer for the “Star vs the Forces of Evil” episode “Sad Teen Hotline.” I really enjoyed designing the kitten! The color version is the previz that I had done and then later on I drew the turn of it!
One of my favorite commissions ever. Gouache on Watercolor paper.
Lisa needs braces!
A painting for The Wonderful World of Lisa Simpson for Bongo Comics. I miss Simpsons Comics, this was so fun to work on.
I think this is meant to be Paris? I like Paris!
Gouache on watercolor paper!
