For those that missed it last time : I'm not active on tumblr anymore. If you still want to listen to my shit I'm 'limenale' on twitter. Kthx.
I’m probably going to set up a more solid blog on my own terms on my own server, and transfer a lot of what I’d post on tumblr to there. Also probably just retire from tumblr and stick to Twitter for social stuff.
Tumblr is absolute shit on a technical level and it keeps getting shittier.
The kind of discourse tumblr promotes, where reblogging is easy but commentary is hard, is one of hyperbole and a lack of rapport. And I’m not blaming other bloggers here, the architecture of this place affects me, makes ME more intolerant and more likely to run off at the mouth. I don’t much like that.
As a consequence of the above, the politics of the place are tiring. I don’t really need 90% of my dash being overstated anger at the world. Maybe some people do, personally I am well aware that shit goes on, and I’d rather be in conversations about how to survive it and solve it.
I’m not going to delete my account. If you want to message me here I’ll probably get it, if you want to get me on Twitter I’m “limenale”. I’ll be posting blog details when I have it running, maybe even autolinking stuff from there to here.
But my general presence here will be shrinking. To the people I’ve interacted with positively here: you’re cool, cheerio.
(bolding mine)
I’m really with you on pretty much all of this. Like, I want to engage people here, but I know how quickly it’ll turn into people telling me to die or fuck off/call me coddling + “not radical enough.” I just really can’t deal with that.
To be fair, I have had relatively little hate thrown my way here, despite being critical of many popular trends.
However, I've also had little engagement. Most of my posts don't get much attention, which is fine, what bothers me is that the ones that do just get reblogged 50-100 times without comment. I don't know what that is, but it's not really a form of interaction I draw much from. Yeah, I write stuff to be read, but more than that I write stuff to hear other people's opinions on it. And that's not something tumblr's architecture encourages. Messaging is crap, replies are limited, and reblogs broadcast your comments to your whole audience, which produces clutter.
I think people have built some valuable connections within tumblr. Like, I think as a platform for vulnerable youth, it has served a good purpose. But every good thing that comes of tumblr is fighting its design, which is to encourage a superficial contest for micro-fame.

What You Crave vs What You Need
Men’s clothes, right?
My 20 year old 6 foot something skinny beanpole brother is a size medium t-shirt.
My 71 year old 5 foot 8 average weight dad is a size medium t-shirt.
My uncle who is built like Captain freaking America is a size medium t-shirt.
I can wear a men’s size medium t-shirt.
Women’s clothes?
Depends on the phases of the moon, your star sign, and whether you’ve looked at a picture of a chicken recently.
What even.
Accurate.
It's mostly because masculine clothes traditionally have very simple cuts. Like, I have encountered shirts and suits that fit only a very small range of bodies, because they were trying to do similar things to dresses and such, like narrowing at the waist and such. If clothes are just straight up and down, things are pretty easy. If you want to do interesting things with how things fit around a body, you need to start assuming things about the body you are designing for that aren't going to hold true for a lot of people. And men are allowed to get away with wearing very simple and practical clothes in a way women aren't.
The Jewish Standard VERY COOL: Muslims are taking photos at synagogues declaring themselves guardians of believers and their houses of worship. Muslim sisters and brothers: Thank you. Please send us your photos so we can post them. #IGoToSynagogue #WeMustStickTogether #MuslimsAndJewsRefuseToBeEnemies#ChildrenOfAbraham #AbrahamIbrahim
Hi I’m auditioning for the part of Internet Explorer and I’ll be sin-

I feel like I'm starting to rebuild my courage and self image after four years. Of course, last time a random dude apparently smelled it on me and made sure to break me. Let's hope I have the presence of mind to kick the next one in the crotch.
people who cling to “traditional language” and reject the fluidity of modern linguistic patterns are so dull and boring! language has the potential to be shaped in so many ways and your biggest priority is still criticizing teens who use ‘like’ as a colloquial quotative
Man I just read an article by a colonialist Israeli politician and you could rattle off a checklist. "We support democracy, feminism, and gay rights, unlike them." Check. "They're all savages that would kill us all, look what they do to their own people." Check. "We've made compromises, Palestinians are just ignorant and ungrateful." Check. Random anecdote about an Israeli kid who died in an attack. Check. Vague and self serving reference to European antisemitism. Check. Funny thing is it's almost exactly the same checklist you can use for Victorian colonialists. Some things never change. Thing is, it begun like "western liberals don't really understand the complexities involved" and I was like "tru" but then apparently the complexity in question was really, really hating Muslims.
