That was somebody's mom whose dream had always been to be a restaurant owner but sadly she married into the mafia and she was like the mom of someone important and moms are like the one authority italians recognise so when she put her foot down and said "NO. We are going to make them great food and give them the most lovely evening!" Nobody dared disagree and thanks to op she got to live her dream for a night she probably remembers them as fondly as they remember her
I’ve seen people say stores should be fined for not donating food past the “best by” date (which is different to a “use by” date, and is still perfectly edible and fine) instead of throwing it out.
I’m in favor of stores doing that, but I don’t like the idea of fining them for not doing so. That’s a stick approach. People don’t respond well to threat of punishment, and it should be a last resort used when there aren’t better options.
Depending on the egos and wealth involved, some businesses might just plan their finances around that loss.
While I could be mistaken, I think a carrot approach would be better.
What I have in mind is two rewards for stores that donate edible foods instead of throwing them away:
1 - Tax benefits, and a system in place that keeps the process from being a headache for stores. Make it a financial net-gain that way instead of threatening a fine.
2 - Official certification with a well-designed logo that stores can legally use in promotion if they meet the qualifications. Have it be good PR for the store with a ready-to-go, recognizable seal of approval they can use.

And the hoodie stayed through it all
I initially picked that free model because it had a red hoodie lol
Clearly, Demily is not the girl, but rather the sentient hoodie, piloting a flesh pupprt.
"OP why are you mad that your words are being misinterpreted you're on the piss on the poor website" actually i think it's very reasonable to demand people pay attention to the words they use, the choices they make, the things they believe, and their capacity for empathy and comprehension and that it's sort of weird that you're finding humor in making excuses to just believe that there simply is no possible way to improve your actions
I think that 2023 is a good time for many of us, and allies in particular, to practice again the dying art of minding our own fucking business when it comes to the identities and lives of other people.
You see someone from one of your classes in a public place with a different gender presentation/expression than they typically have? Mind your own business.
You discover that one of your coworkers is in a same gender relationship, but they aren't out at work? Not your place to share that information in the workplace.
You notice that your neighbor in a red state takes a road trip across state lines with their transgender child every 3-6 months? No you fucking didn't.
You overhear students in your classroom using a different name and different pronouns for one student than you are used to using? If you live in a state hostile to trans rights, pretend that you don't know anything about this and report nothing.
You suspect that an acquaintance of yours might be gay, but they deny it when asked directly? Leave them the fuck alone.
One of your friends refuses to publicly label their sexuality? Good for them, you aren't entitled to that information anyway.
Your sibling comes out to you as questioning, but isn't comfortable sharing that with your parents yet? Keep your fucking mouth shut.
Don't out people; coming out is a personal choice not a moral obligation. Don't demand personal information about other people's sexuality or sex lives. You aren't entitled to information about anyone's gender identity, assigned gender at birth, or transition.
Bring back privacy, allow people to have control over the information that is shared about them publicly; it might save their job, their housing, their parental rights and their child's safety, or even save lives.

Today I saw a pic of a baby cowbird next 2 its nest "parent" and it was so much bigger!!!!! Which is the sort of thing that gets normal people upset about the injustice of nest parasitism but makes *me* worry if baby cowbirds get bird dysmorphia
This (from Cornell Labs via Merlin) is the pic I was looking at. It's just a little baby but it's so much bigger than its "parent"!!!! Do baby cowbirds feel isolated? Do they understand they're a different bird, or are they just a really bad sparrow?
hey, good news! ecologists have been studying this very thing! it seems young cowbirds have some kind of innate sense that leads them to sneak out of their foster nest at night to hang out in grasslands where they—more often than not—meet other cowbirds and learn more about what they really are.
Thanks I am going to cry so hard I throw up ;-;
