In your opinion, what are the best majors to have? As in high paying and doesn’t take 13 years to graduate.

Great question.

First thing to note is men always go where the money is, so if a field is dominated by men then you know it's a goldmine. Women are encouraged to "follow their heart" aka get into debt for a useless, low-paying degree. Psychology, sociology, teaching, language degrees, humanities, anthropology, communications, creative writing, arts, are all female dominated.

University/college degrees are now so common they have lost almost all value. Degrees used to only be available to the brightest and richest students, setting them apart from the crowd, but now everyone has a degree and it's become a basic job requirement. Uni/college is now female-dominated, and men (who follow the MONEY) are skipping uni/college and choosing trade careers as electricians, plumbers, etc.

However, trade fields are hostile to women, and you will have better luck choosing a valuable degree. Remember, a job is high-paying if it's either 1) highly specialised and/or 2) miserable and therefore highly compensated (e.g. complex math). In no particular order:

COMPUTER SCIENCE

I am good friends with a comp sci major, these are his tips:

  • Choose a computer science degree that is maths-heavy (higher quality degree, more respected, more legit, better jobs)
  • Do personal projects alongside the degree to show you are passionate and motivated (the degree alone will not get you hired, you need to go above and beyond, the employer is looking for graduates with relevant projects)
  • Research outside the classroom
  • Only do it if you enjoy it (you have to be passionate enough to do projects in your spare time)
  • Look for jobs early, before your final year.

He set up a business and is doing well for himself. His friends either created (and sold) businesses, or have jobs as programmers, software engineers, etc in high places. Comp Sci can land 100k jobs right out of undergrad and then you get promotions.

ENGINEERING

  • mechanical engineer
  • software engineer
  • electrical engineer
  • petroleum engineer
  • chemical (process) engineer
  • aerospace engineer
  • biomedical engineer

High paid, six figure salaries, solid choice.

MATH

Always respected, opens many doors. You can become a:

  • software developer/computer programmer
  • economist
  • accountant
  • engineer
  • data analyst
  • finance anything
  • etc.

ECONOMICS

Most Economics graduates do not work as economists, but instead in related fields. Careers include:

  • Banking, Finance, Investing, Hedge Funds, Wall Street jobs
  • General business roles - management, marketing, sales, etc
  • Data or programming jobs - data science, coders, data analysts, etc
  • Mortgage/Insurance jobs
  • Consulting firms
  • Analysts

LAW

Hard degree, highly competitive, has the potential to make money. But if you're only in it for the money then good luck, because beginner law jobs don't pay.

Corporate lawyers can make big bucks, although it's long hours.

FINANCE

Big money in finance.

However, Investment Banking is extremely competitive, you're working 90-120 hours a week, yes you can get 60k-100k starting out BUT you're living in the city centre... London/New York rent is insane, you will spend everything on bills and cry into your pot of cheap Ramen noodles at your desk.

Go into:

  • Insurance (high demand, easily make 75k - 6 figures in your first 12 months)
  • Financial analyst
  • Hedge fund manager
  • Real estate
  • Accounting

The list goes on. Anything in Finance is $$$. Keep in mind financial analysts and traders are tied to the economy. If there's a huge recession, jobs are lost + pay cuts.

BUSINESS.

You'll need an MBA, beware. BUT high-paying jobs include:

  • Pharma
  • Fintech
  • Management consulting
  • Finance
  • Corporate

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

  • Geology (oil and nuclear companies)
  • Physics & Astronomy

A NOTE ON MEDICINE

  • High stress
  • Takes 4-7 years
  • Extreme debt with high interest rates
  • Vets have the highest rate of suicide
  • Plastic surgeons make $$$
  • Dentistry = $$$
  • Physician = $$$
  • Travel nurses make BANK
  • Can potentially be a stable and high-earning career
  • Little-no free time in many careers
  • Don't go into medicine unless you are passionate about it.

HYPERGAMY

Men marry within their networks, social circles, status, etc.

If you don't want to struggle and grind your way to the top in a cutthroat environment, get one of the degrees above and then network heavily. Get a job as a legal secretary, a nurse, an engineer, and marry the highly motivated corporate lawyer/surgeon/engineer etc who is happy to work 120 hours so you can be a SAHM.

Whatever works for you.

ALTERNATIVE ADVICE

You can make more than these jobs will ever earn + with a 1/3 of the bullshit... through business (and then investing your own money). I highly suggest either:

  1. Learning a valuable skill and providing it as a service;
  2. Creating a product and selling it;
  3. Creating any kind of business.
