Okay so I know a good chunk of the people who follow me are here for the Secret Shanghai insanity and might be planning on reading Immortal Longings at some point so I just wanted to mention this because yeahhh.
Immortal Longings is not YA. And it was never marketed or implied to be YA. Secret Shanghai is YA. Immortal Longings is much darker than Secret Shanghai.
It is an amazing, beautifully written book, and I highly recommend it. That being said, I know a lot of Chloe Gongs fandom is probably still contained within the YA genre, and if you are more towards the younger end of her fandom I would highly recommend looking up summaries of the book before you read it. I also think the official playlist communicates the vibes pretty well.
Just like. Please use common sense and do not go into this book expecting Secret Shanghai. And if you don’t think this book is going to be for you, there is absolutely nothing wrong with not reading it. Adult books get weirdly marketed towards YA audiences all of the time and Chloe Gong has been very clear that this is not YA.
If you don’t feel comfortable reading Immortal Longings, Foul Heart Huntsman will be coming out in a few months. There is still plenty of other clowning to do.
