What are your favorite periodic table elements?

I only know about a handful of them. The ones I'm most familiar with are probably:

Chlorine, iodine, and carbon. I think of these three as the "basic building blocks" of all of the real chemical stuff you deal with. I'm still trying to figure out why they're so common (i.e. the "elements" in "chemical elements").

Neon is cool, too.

Silicon and calcium probably count as "metallic elements." Silicon is the only one I'm really aware of as being metallic.

There's also sodium, potassium, barium, rubidium, strontium, zinc, rhenium, and the "rare earth metals." I don't know much about them yet.
