Biggest dog in shelter: Leonberger so sad doesn’t even pick up his head

He’s the biggest dog in the shelter, and even though there are some questions as to his breed, his heart aches with profound sadness, and volunteers report he won’t even pick up his head to acknowledge anyone.

Click here for this dog’s PetHarbor listing. This DOG - ID#A4832054

I am described as a male, brown Leonberger mix. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years old. I have been at the shelter since May 19, 2015. For more information about this animal, call Los Angeles County Animal Control - Carson at (310) 523-9566.

A Facebook page for this dog is available by clicking here. His stray hold expires on May 23, however there has been no interest in helping this dog. There continues to be discussion as to his breed being a Tibetan Mastiff. Either way, this gentle giant needs to be rescued, adopted or fostered.

Please share his story. Additional information is available here. Sharing saves lives as is evidenced by so many wonderful storybook endings for dogs who otherwise would never have had a chance. Forward this story, send it to your Facebook acquaintances or send it on to work colleagues. Just one special connection can save this boy’s life.

How to Tell Your Mother You Love Her Tell her how the scent of onions browning on a stovetop makes you think of her. The way her red curls drifted across the kitchen in autumn, her long fingers folded over your hands as she taught you the importance of feeding the soft parts of the soul. Remind her that the things you love best about yourself are pieces of her. Her softness, her forgiveness, and her sacrifice. Show her the shirt you still own. The one she got in Colorado when she was your age. Tell her that when you wear it to bed, you remember how to be good, how to be strong. How to give up pieces of yourself so that others can be whole. Tell her that the salt of your own tears always seems to be hers. That you want to protect her in all the ways she protected you, and sometimes that means protecting her from yourself. Tell her that she is the thread that secures your Mississippi feet to these New York sidewalks. That she taught you to carry yourself in those places she can’t hold your hand. That when you walk home at two in the morning, lost and crying over all the things that can’t be, it’s her words echoing in your head that bring you back to yourself. Let her know that you learned the world through her. That she gave you her eyes when you couldn’t see and that her hands are your hands. That she taught you there is no greater bravery than tenderness. Remind her that you’ve grown. That you’ve changed. That you will carry her with you until you die, and when you do, that whatever is left of you will shout her name, her face, her love into the universe.

Okay, head’s up. This little critter is called a slow loris. NEVER TAKE ONE AS A PET. They’ve experienced a boom in popularity as pets in parts of Asia and then the rest of the world, and this is not okay.

Why?

A) They’re endangered

B) They’re venomous. The only known venomous primate, to be exact. They store it in their inner arms. They’ll get in defensive posture, suck the venom from their glands, and them bite. And the bite can kill a human. (Seriously, one nipped Lady Gaga in Feb 2014 when she thought it would be a good idea to use one in a music video. They dropped that idea, thankfully.)

C) They’re endangered directly BECAUSE OF THE EXOTIC PET TRADE

D) When the poachers trap them, THEY CLIP THEIR FUCKING TEETH TO MAKE THEM “MANAGEABLE.” Many slow loris’ will die before ever being sold because of complications with HAVING THEIR FUCKING TEETH CLIPPED. (There’s a reason the loris’ in the videos are only eating soft foods…)

E) The exotic pet trade on slow loris’ BOOMed because of youtube videos like the one above.

You wanna help these adorable looking critters?

And please make it very clear to everyone who thinks these videos are cute, that the animal in question has been stolen from it’s natural habitat and horrifically abused just so it could be a “cute” pet.
