I wish Americans fucked with more foreign music. You don’t have to know the language to appreciate a good record. Folks in other countries listen to our music and don’t speak a lick of english. Music needs no translator

yall wont trick me into listening to kpop

choose a country, pick a decade, and GO!!

you’ll get an endless streaming of songs (ad free!).

I personally found myself loving 1970s Ghana, Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire! Also 1920s and 1970s Japan for sure! Cambodian music: spectacular. Love Armenia and Mali as well. I’ve been told 70s Germany is weird and 30s Algeria is cool but I haven’t gotten around to those yet. Italy’s 1960s is bomb ofc but I’m biased ;)

i watch baseball for the side quests

throwback to 2021 when the exact same player started doing this extended water bottle bincoculars sight gag in the dugout

this is the same guy who also made himself a fruit cocktail midgame. he is The manic pixie dream girl

baseball is actually not a sport it’s just a documentary of human nature and how we battle boredom. the stuff these teams get up to while they’re waiting their turn.

and it’s hilarious when they pull pranks on each other, like attaching things to other people’s caps:

or the beloved hot shoe prank:

or when they decided to put a guy’s pants over his head and make it seem like he was walking on his hands:

or when they opposing pitchers took turns playing tic tac toe every time they got on the mound:

pony whose cutie mark is a big splotch of white and he works in a bakery so everyone assumes it's flour but his name is Walter Hoofwell White and he lives at 308 Neighgra Arroyo Lane

sucks that my mom is so cool because I'll start telling a friend about how she was super punk as a kid or how she worked on X video games and the bassline for Stacy's Mom starts playing in the background

Leaving aside the whole debate about the ethics of AI art and copyright, I think one of my biggest gripes with the AI art industry is that generative AI art has this natural tendency towards producing weird and surreal imagery that I actually think DOES have a lot of artistic merit and potential if explored and leaned into as one of the unique strengths of the medium.

Like, when AI image generators were at the stage imbetween the vaguely recognizable imagery produced by neuralblender and the type of generators we're seeing today, they were producing really fascinating imagery that I'd argue had value as a contribution to the art landscape that was entirely unique to AI, since the weird surreal quality of the images was the result of Machine Learning programs interpreting words and images in a fundamentally different way than humans do.

Like i'd argue shit like this indisputably has a place as its own artistic style/medium, it's surreal and weird in ways which are completely distinct from what a human artist could produce because its unique strengths come from details that are inscrutable, ambiguous, and hard to parse to the human mind, which a human artist would have an extremely hard time mentally visializing, let alone translatong into an art piece.

But since the main selling point of AI art for both the people making these generators and the teach aficinados who are a little too into them is that AI art can serve as a cheaper/faster replacement and/or alternative for the work of human artists, progress is measured not in terms of how well they can use and explore the distincly non-human quality of AI art, but instead in terms of how well they can supress it to make it more closely mimic the work of human artists. So all advancement in the tech is geared towards progressively getting rid of the things I find artistically interesting about the medium instead of towards leaning into them as strengths that give it a unique, artistically worthwile style.

Like, I don't think AI art is inherently "soulless" or devoid of artistic merit, but I do think the focus on trying to make it increasingly indistinguishable from art produced by humans strips away the things that gave it artistic merit to me. This thing can produce imagery that is weird and wild and hard for us to even conceive but the profit motive's tendency towards rewarding homogenization has neutered that to turn it into a factory of increasingly bland, generic, serviceable imagery.

"Asteroid," poem assembled from quotations from Wikipedia articles

[ID: Many (many) screenshots of lines from wikipedia articles. When read together, they say:

An asteroid is

the protagonist of a tragedy.

  • A force, such as gravity, pulls an object into a curved path as it attempts to fly

On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax

  • "I know the voices dying with a dying fall" echoes Orinso's first lines in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

In current usage, "soulmate" usually refers to

As two objects orbit each other,

Tidally-locked satellites

each half seeks the other

Common messages are that love is predestined, that love at first sight is possible, and that love at first sight always succeeds.

In physics, the orbit is the gravitationally controlled trajectory of an object, such as the trajectory

the Fall of Icarus

The search for El Dorado

  • The Fault in Our Stars

Gilgamesh, driven by grief

The "Wrath of Achilles"

"How do I get out?"

An asteroid is

-Fate

("Everything Burns" 2005)

- Fortune

"Flight of Icarus, down into flames" & "Daedalus, your child is falling and the labyrinth is calling" respectively.

A Head full of Dreams (album) - "'I know it's over,' Icarus says to the sun".

"If you fly like Icarus to the edge"

"I am Icarus falling out of the sun".

Pearce compared it to the earth asking a question and the sky answering it.

to say the name of the play inside a theater is believed to doom the production to failure, and perhaps cause physical injury or death to cast members. There are stories of accidents, misfortunes, and even deaths taking place during runs of Macbeth.

This may leave space and time as its only dimensional constants, implying a dissolution of the line between "art" and "life";

During the September 11th attacks, viewers supposedly saw the face of Satan in the smoke billowing out of the World Trade Center after it was struck by the airplane. Another example of face recognition pareidolia originated in the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral, when some observers claimed to see Jesus in the flames.

"Icarus is bullshit, that's why it's called 'mythology'."

"Soon, there'll just be feathers and the quiet of the fall."

and the gods will have completely forsaken humanity; "there will be no help against evil".

In April 2018, the B612 Foundation reported, "It's 100 percent certain that we'll be hit [by a devastating asteroid], but we're not 100 percent certain when." Also in 2018, physicist Stephen Hawking

states that romantic love introduced the idea of a narrative to a person's life and

A soulmate is a seperate entity with whome one has spent many lifetimes as a friend, lover, coworker, or partner, and to whom one is usually drawn to

An asteroid

is created as a rival for Gilgamesh, who tyrannizes his people, but they become friends and together slay the monster Humbaba and the Bull of Heaven; because of this, Enkidu is punished and dies, representing the mighty hero who dies early.

An asteroid

became more human, and therefore,

burns, explodes, or otherwise breaks up in the larger object's atmosphere; or, for objects where the primary is a star, end with incineration by the star's radiation (as for comets) and so on.

An asteroid is

thought to be an expression of an ordering of the world: "instead of asking what a tragedy expresses, the derivative definition tends to ask what expresses itself through trajedy."

  • We belong together
  • We can last forever

Can love be actualized? After conceding everything up to this point, you may perhaps say,

[according to whom?]

Too many people want to read about love to find out what love is. Kierkegaard says one must act,

knowingly choose to listen in order to feel sadness

find a truth to live and die for.

Renaissance humanist Erasmus asks, "For what else is the life of a man but a play in which men in various costumes perform until a director motions them of the stage."

An asteroid is

A sensation of falling

“it’s too hard” it’s okay if it can’t be easy!

+ ask people who have made a neocities if you are struggling, many people won’t be aggravated that you send an email asking where or how they learned to set up their webpage! like me and my page! i love emails!

+ start small, have reasonable goals set in mind! there is no such thing as a step too small! it took me several weeks just to figure out basic CSS!

+ don’t focus on it being good or presentable, focus on being able to understand what you did so you can grow from where you left off.

+ if you don’t have enough energy to do what you don’t know yet, have more fun with what you do know! don’t know how to style a page yet, but know how to add fun images, links, and text modifiers? slap some more in there!

+ have fun with your web page! all i post about on my pink little website is video games, dog trivia, with miscellaneous buttons, stamps, and quizzes! it’s my site, my house, my rules, my fun!

+ ask for help, the worst they can say is “i don’t know!”, or “i can’t help you!”

damn. sometimes I'm really down on my skills because I feel like I haven't gotten any better in a LONG time. but I just went through my voice memos through the past six years and you know what?

I SUCKED. hardcore. and you know what? I don't suck now. like I'm still not any good lmao but I've gotten a LOT better. it's interesting to have a quantifiable timetable of suck to not suck.

you know I couldn’t be a cowboy because I’d be stuck with my partner in the dead cold prairie night and our horses would be tied up and we’d be huddlin around a crudely made fire because it was too far to go back to the ranch and he’d play the sweetest song on his harmonica, the kind that you felt in your bones and your heart and that the hymns had nothin on, and then he’d finish and we’d both lean in a little too close and my hand would be on his bandanna and his whiskey-breath would be hot on my lips and I’d realize that maybe it wasn’t the touch of a woman i’d been hankerin for

yeah I’ll be honest I don’t know wtf possessed me here

Wikipedia is good but holy shit, it's not good enough for the amount of internet it is single-handedly supporting. We editors are mere mortals, yet we hold up the sky like Atlas. We're fighting for our lives here

Listen closely—

We have just entered an absolutely wild new era of internet misinformation and the shit hasn't visibly hit the fan yet but it WILL.

It's quite simple:

  • Wikipedia has become the definitive online source of information to the point that other fairly reputable websites often cite or copy it. Do you have any idea the psychological whiplash of clicking "Info" on iNaturalist for a plant, and being confronted with text that YOU WROTE
  • The internet as a whole is being used as training data for AI bots, which are in turn used to generate online content.
  • Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, meaning it is supposed to summarize information that's already out there, NOT synthesize new conclusions. In my experience, Wikipedia is alright about labeling and eliminating unsupported statements, but not so good at pinning down and excising bad or disreputable sources, which can stick around for years. To make matters worse, reputable sources are often paywalled.

In conclusion: Oh god oh fuck

It is pretty funny though that anything can manifest "sources" relating to it and become increasingly legitimized just by being discussed on the internet. I have seen so many bot-generated websites advertising and discussing lawn alternatives pop up in searches relating to the topic.

in junior year of highschool my art teacher would let our ceramics class play music of our choice off of her desktop. we usually used spotify or youtube but she did have one album downloaded on her computer. it was a halloween sound effects/ambience collection. i dont remember why she had it. there was a track on there called "burning screams" which was exactly what it sounds like. just a cacophony of screams alongside crackling fire. she only let us play it on very special occasions, and we would cheer and jump with joy every time. it was like a pizza party to us

Avatar

please imagine 6 teenagers with giant sad puppy eyes looking at a dear sweet 50 something year old art teacher and asking "may we please hear burning screams"

i dont know where burning screams came from. ive looked. its lost media to me. burning screams is my white whale
