@barbwritesstuff

Hello. My name's Barb. I write stuff. For Details: barbaratruelove.com

My name's Barb. I write stuff.

Specifically:

Blood Moon is a 445,000 word interactive novel. Play as a werewolf as you defend your pack against vampires and (if the mood is right) fall in love. Published with Hosted Games.

Crying Wolf is a 110,000 word novel about twin brothers (who also just happen to be werewolves) fighting for freedom in a system rigged against them. Published with Riptide Publishing.

Something a Little Super is a 20,000 word interactive story about adopting and raising a child with super powers. Free to play!

I'm also working on a couple of other projects:

  • Of Monsters and Mainframes is an unpublished novel about a space ship fighting Dracula. I'm currently looking for a literary agent so I can get this one published. Wish me luck!
  • A Fairy Tale is a short visual novel about finding love... and maybe a little murder. I'll be releasing it for free on itch.io later this year.
  • Thicker Than is a potential sequel to Blood Moon. It is still in a very early stage of development... but there is a demo!

I also have: a website with more stuff, an email (barbara truelove writes at g mail dot com), and a KoFi page which is the best place to support me, if you like what I do.

Thanks for stopping by.

My friend using my love of the clones from star wars (and my hatred for the mean nasty jedi who sent my beloved copy paste men to war) to try to convince me into getting a patreon.

True friend. 💙

Other werewolf books I enjoyed:

-The Blooding by Patricia Windsor (cw: inappropriate relationship)

-The Silver Wolf by Alice Borchardt

-Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause

And a very underrated vampire book I almost never see recommended but which I still reread as an adult:

-Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde

The librarians are going to look at me so weirdly tomorrow. Thanks so much for the recs!

Love your werewolf book recs! Do you have any vampire book recs?

This is tumblr... so I'm assuming you've read Dracula.

Others I'd recommend/have had recommended to me:

  • Snow, Glass, Apples by Neil Gaiman
  • Interview with a Vampire by Ann Rice
  • The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
  • Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

OMG I loveeeee Wolfsong (and the other books in the series!) so much! And I think you would absolutely adore them too!!! The dynamics between the werewolves are so fun and hilarious, but also very sweet and heartfelt. Honestly, this pack is probably my favourite found family 😭 It is very hard not to love each and every characters. And the werewolves element are very very strong here!!! Legit there are so many moments where they turn into wolves and just run in the forest!!!! The books are getting re-printed (re-released?) with new cover recently (the first book reprint was out last year and this year we will get the second book!) so I hope your hunt will be easier! <3 <3

The librarians in my town keep giving me worried looks when I request more werewolf books. Hopefully a re-release will convince them to buy it.

Anonymous asked:

What other werewolves novels/books do you like?

I'm on a quest to find more werewolf books that I like... and it really is a quest because a) I'm picky and b) I can't afford to buy them so I have to hunt them down at various libraries across the land.

I've read:

Did I like any of them?

Kinda. I like Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater and did enjoy the werewolves in New Moon by Stephanie Meyer (though I think they should've eaten those rich vampire arseholes and been done with it).

Ann Rice's Wolf Gift was... weird. It's been years and I'm still not sure I really fully understood what she was trying to do with that book. I still sometimes think about it, in a puddle of confusion and vague disappointment. On a happier note, I read the graphic novel adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard book and was obsessed with the werewolf in that, I just wish she stuck around for more than five minutes.

Howl by Shaun David Hutchinson and Red Hood by Elana Arnold were good books but, despite the branding, I'm not sure they really were werewolf books. While I enjoyed them, I think they're more... werewolf adjacent. Werewolf-like. Wherewolf... because where was the actual werewolf?

Other werewolf books I've heard good things about but haven't read yet (hunt still ongoing):

  • Wolfsong by TJ Klune
  • Squad by Maggie Tokuda-Hall
  • Fangs by Sarah Andersen
  • Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker
  • Wicked Fox by Kat Cho (a fox is kinda like a wolf, right?)
  • Mongrels by Stephan Graham Jones

Do you have anymore suggestions?

So are we gonna get a new demo for TT? If not that's okay cause I'm still gonna cheer you for all your work and future work

I'm not sure what you mean. If I work on TT, I'll be fleshing out the existing demo, not doing a new one.

I'm currently putting the finishing touches on my Fairy Tale game and looking for a literary agent for my prose novel, Of Monsters and Mainframes.

I'm kinda stressed out about it all tbh. 2 agents have asked to see my other work and while that's really exciting, I don't have much prose to share because I've spent the last couple of years working on games, so I'm really not sure what I should invest my time in next. Feeling a wee bit conflicted.

If I do start working on TT, I'll announce it here on tumblr and the other places I exist online. I hope that's okay. 💙

I think that anon more meant a superhero who is consistently a werewolf, but Captain America was a werewolf for a while!

I didn't know that! I hope he did a team up with vampire Batman.

Anonymous asked:

I loved Blood Moon, ND I also love werewolves, so... If given the case, what other wereanimal/werebeast would you write about?

Werewolves are my favourite... but I wouldn't turn away any were looking for a place to belong.

Hi Barb!! Do you think Izzie and Hani will become friends? or like more broadly I remember (or imagined???) an ask where you said something about Nik being more intimidating than JiAn when they grow up, because Nik gets good at using a crossbow lol...so how do you imagine the kiddos' dynamic when they grow up?

Oh 100%. Blood Moon 2nd Generation is a thing in my head.

Hani and Izzie are friends. JiAn, Nik, and Alek bicker in a way only siblings can. Nik is the scariest one of the group despite being the only one who can't turn into a wolf.

Who do you think would win an arm wrestling match between Roe and Shawnie? Do you reckon they'd let Shawnie win or absolutely wipe the floor with her? 😆

Roe is the alpha for a reason. No mercy.

If Ed is crying and Vicky walks into the room... my advice would be to speak quickly.

Vicky: You have 3 seconds

MC: What? I thought I would have at least 5...

Vicky: 2...

MC: OKAY OKAY HOLD ON-

😂

Do you think that, if MC would make Ed cry from happiness, would Vicky toss them across the room before or during the explanation? 🤔

ROs have to do a wheelbarrow race. Who are the teams? Who holds whose legs? Who wins?

Ed holds Marco's legs. They don't get far before they get disqualified because Marco keeps slipping into 'dog mode'.

Farro holds Shawnie's legs. The height difference proves disastrous.

Vicky holds Carrie's legs. Victory is assured.

Sergi holds Roe's legs (one handed!). They're chasing down Vicky and Carrie.

Yo wouldn't it be cool if there was a werewolf superhero? Like why hasn't anyone done that, it would be such a cool character. I guess it would kinda overlap a bit with what the Hulk and Venom have going on but still.

I volunteer as tribute!
