kinda wish i hadn’t watched brokeback mountain till years after i figured out my sexuality, tbh. i feel like if i were seeing it for the first time now, i would be heartbroken, and angry as FUCK, but would still enjoy it. because i know now about all the insidious cruelty of Bury Your Gays™, and could acknowledge it as a well-made film while being able to disconnect myself from the “brokeback mountain phenomenon,” for lack of a better word. u know, that particular sadistic, blithe pity that straight people talk about this movie with.
instead, i watched it for the first time when i was a vulnerable and impressionable 15 year old questioning their sexuality. i sought it out because it was the only Gay Thing anyone i knew talked about, so i assumed it would be a good entry point into queer life, maybe lend some perspective on my own inner turmoil.
…and it traumatized me. deeply. i didn’t watch any gay movies for YEARS after that cause i was terrified they would all end that way. still don’t watch much gay film honestly. i’m just tired.

For the newcomers, let me explain; In the old Scandinavian religion (Thor, Odin and all that) it’s explained that there are no dwarf women. Instead dwarves “craft” children using magic. They were amazing craftsmen and could create living beings of flesh and blood. Apart from their famous skills with a hammer, their lack of women was considered the main thing that set them apart from other races. They did love women though. Women could always buy their services by sleeping with them.
Jotun men get pregnant several times in all sorts of different ways in the old stories. They might sleeps with another man, woman, monster or animal and birth everything from perfectly normal jotun babies to weird monsters (Loki was nothing special in that aspect), or they might get spontaneously pregnant. The first jotun Ymir had both male and female sex organs and mated with himself. He later birthed the jotun race.

Nagato Iwasaki is one of those artists you don’t know much about. But his art talks for itself.
The Japan-based artist creates incredible driftwood sculptures. Each of his human-shaped figures can both mesmerize and scare you. The artist manages to create an uneasy feeling using nothing but wood and you can be sure, that if you’d stumble upon one of these sculptures at night, you’d go sleepless for days.
