crying bc from sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes i gave my blood, sweat and tears for this i hosted parties and starved my body like i'd be saved by a perfect kiss, the jokes weren't funny i took the money my friends from home don't know what to say, i looked around in a blood-soaked gown and I saw something they can't take away, cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned everything you lose is a step you take. so make the friendship bracelets take the moment and taste it you've got no reason to be afraid. you're on your own, kid, yeah, you can face this, you're on your own, kid YOU ALWAYS HAVE BEEN
listening to you’re on your own, kid is just like… i’m in high school and just got invited to my first party. i’m with the popular kids and my crush is there. they don’t even look at me. that’s okay. i can change. i can be better. my parents are getting older. is it okay to drink yet? i never grew up. i want to feel accepted. i want to leave. it’s summer break again and i don’t know where the years went. i’m in my college dorm alone. why did i ever want to leave? is time going like this for everyone else? can someone give me a sign i’m on the right path? i want to start over. everyone else knows what they’re doing. everyone else has someone. i never had friends. i miss my friends. why did i think this is what i wanted? i should have been kinder to myself. there’s still time. i can still change.
people who think kids are stupid have clearly never once had to attempt to get through explaining a set of safety rules and expectations to a group of them. lawyers wish they had the falcon's eye for loopholes, technicalities, and potential exceptions that the average 3rd grader possesses.
i love seeing friendship from the outside. i love roaming the streets of society as an observer just for those moments of seeing a few kindred spirits being boldly familiar with one another—laughing obnoxiously, talking loudly, walking so close together someone almost trips, pushing and shoving each other in excited reactions to whatever the topic of their conversation is. or, similarly, those rarer moments of watching two friends meet: in the foyer at a restaurant, when the door opens and the expressions of the entering individual and a seated individual shift from ones of searching concentration to exuberant joy at having finally spotted the other’s face, or driving downtown, when the car in front slows to a stop for no apparent reason but before any anger at their seemingly unnecessary lack of movement can ensue, a girl comes skipping down the sidewalk on the right with the brightest smile and an outstretched arm to throw open that car’s passenger and climb inside—suddenly, the muffled bass sounding from their stereo is turned up. they speed off in a way that tells you they were aware of the cars waiting behind them but in your mind the impatience is tempered by one lingering word:
“friends.”
Happy birthday to this critically acclaimed multi-award winning masterpiece
It's time we decolonize the Cascadian volcanoes
If we can say Denali instead of Mt. McKinley then we can say Lawetlat'la instead of Mt. St Helens. The mountain is named Tahoma, not Rainier. Naming a mountain after Jefferson doesn't erase its true name of Seekseekqua.
One name tells of the thousand years indigenous history and culture of the tribes who live there. The other name tells me nothing but colonialism.
Mt. Baker: Kulshan
Glacier Peak: Dahkobed
Mt. Rainier: Tahoma
Mt. St. Helens: Lawetlat'la
Mt. Adams: Klickitat
Mt. Hood: Wy'east
Mt. Jefferson: Seekseekqua
Three Sisters: Klah Klahne
if i bring a book someplace it doesn't necessarily mean i want to read it mayb i just want to take her on a walk. Get her some fresh air and a change of scenery
some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.
I couldn't remember the word "doorknob" ten minutes ago.
ok but the onelook thesaurus will save your life, i literally could not live without this website
