ana mendieta “people looking at blood, moffit, iowa” 1973
“In this piece, Mendieta spilled a large amount of what appeared to be chunky blood over a doorway and sidewalk on an Iowa City street. Then she removed herself from the scene and, from a distance, photographed the reactions of various passersby. […] It intimates to passersby that a grievous and dramatic injury has taken place, but it gives no explanation and, more important, no recourse to action. It may incite horror, concern, compassion, and revulsion—in short, pity and fear—but it doesn’t offer anywhere for these feelings to go. […] Each pedestrian’s only real choice is to walk on by, which looks from the outside—and likely felt, on the inside—like an uncaring abandonment, even if of an indeterminate or imaginary entity. […] And somewhere out of sight lurks Mendieta, a voyeur of each passerby’s involuntary voyeurism. […] People Looking at Blood says, Look at this pile of carnage, with no clear story, source, assailant, or victim. Just look at it. Now look at others looking at it. (And I will be looking at you looking.)”
— The Art of Cruelty, Maggie Nelson
Ana Mendieta was murdered by her husband and fellow artist Carl Andre. This work became a self fulfilling prophecy and meditation on tragedy, the nature of violence, and peoples unwillingness to help.
And no I will not shut up about this.
By the way, her husband never went to prison for what he did.
Daily reminder to blast Fuck the Police😌
Rape culture is sexual entitlement. Men feeling like they’re owed sex and women feeling like PIV is inevitable. Rape culture is men treating women like sexual objects instead of people; dehumanizing them.
What about porn? The current sexual climate assumes that everyone should have access to porn, everyone should have access to their niche of porn, access should be free and constant, it should inform their sexual growth and education.
Porn is made by real humans, real people doing those things you probably couldn’t get a prospective partner to do, things you know in reality don’t feel good. Constant access to porn means assuming that people are going to keep making these vids; doing sexual acts they’re not comfortable with. Don’t see the people on porn as dehumanized sexual objects, they’re real complex humans.
Rape culture is sexual entitlement. Porn culture is sexual entitlement. Porn culture is rape culture.
while I understand the sentiment of this:
Not all adult female humans are women and not all women are female
You clearly don’t understand this, though, so allow me to explain it to you like you’re a 5 year old child, despite 5 year olds being smarter than you:
Woman is the term for adult human female. Just as cow is the term for an adult female bovine or doe is the term for an adult female deer.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t “identify” as a woman, because you still are one if you are female and of adult age. It’s not a choice, no matter what your self-hating, patriarchy supporting ass thinks. You can’t choose to be a woman, or a man.
Are you starting to get it now, or shall I dumb it down further?
In other words - yes, all adult female humans are women and all women are female. Your fantasies do not change material reality.
“…and to realize that most American males worship woman as a sex machine with rounded breasts and a convenient opening in the vagina, as a painted doll who shouldn’t have a thought in her pretty head other than cooking a steak dinner and comforting him in bed after a hard 9-5 day at a routine business job.” -the private journal of Sylvia Plath
I hate the concept of glow ups. comparing old pictures of you from your childhood to your current self and talking shit about the way you used to look is cruel. you were a child. capitalism and the beauty industry have literally turned you against your own fucking self. I promise you didn't look ugly and cringe. kids and teenagers are supposed to look like that. protect your innocence do not let fucking influencers suck the soul outta you.
The leap that women having breasts and vaginas means that’s all we are?? What the else would make us women?
This post sums it up very eloquently
Damn I wish we still had that gender critical sub
For every terf you hate there’s a radfem with a fandom sideblog you follow
AND for every terf you hate, there’s a libfem with a radfem sideblog so she can learn without harassment.
Also, for every terf you hate there’s a historical woman who fought for the rights women have today that would probably be deemed as a terf if they were on tumblr.
!!!!
For every terf you hate there’s a woman who was killed for being a woman.
And for every terf you hate, there’s twice the amount of “crypto-terfs” who quietly follow and support her because trying to control people’s thoughts doesn’t actually work
You can also stop pretending that capitalism is voluntarism.
If your company’s success depends on you never ever getting sick, your company is SEVERELY understaffed.
Also remember it’s not the rail workers who caused the strike. It’s the bosses. They had plenty of time to reach an agreement with the unions. A strike is the last resort.
