Okay silly little theory based purely off of the last trailer
The glitches seem to be a part of the episodes and not just the teasers, seemingly The Star Beast bcus of how the trailer is laid out. I think the Toymaker is going to be using the television signals to get into people's heads (as evidenced by the puppet-like faces on the TV screens during the trailer) and The Star Beast is going to hint towards this by breaking the fourth wall and making our television signals appear to glitch out and get hijacked by the Toymaker for a few moments throughout the episode. This sets up the Toymaker as the antagonist for Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle while they focus on the Beep the Meep plotline in the first episode, so the Toymaker doesn't come out of nowhere halfway through the story while still allowing the first episode to retell the comic story without having to force the Toymaker into the plot
So I've just discovered that the glitches are in the Wild Blue Yonder clips, not The Star Beast. This does disprove part of this theory but I still believe that they are fourth wall breaks of the Toymaker hijacking the TV signals
David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Trailer
for Tennant Tuesday (or whatever day this post finds you)
This man is a national treasure.
I just want to reiterate that John Levene was not a trained actor. He was working in a clothing shop and an actor stopped by — I think it may have been John Hurt but I can’t remember — and told him he could be, and should try out as an extra. So he said, ‘enh, why not.’ I think he was an extra in one other show before he wound up on Doctor Who in a Yeti costume. Made a little extra dosh. Tried again and wound up in a cyberman suit.
The guy cast to play Benton in Invasion was late to rehearsals, the director was annoyed with his wok ethic, and he grabbed John Levene and said, “You. You’re a soldier now, under this chap Lethbridge-Stewart.” and he’s like, “Sure!” It was a tiny role, but he was sincere enough in his interactions with Nick Courtney they decided to bring him back, then realized he didn’t have his actor’s union card or ANYTHING, which required a quick bit of finagling.
So other people could go to RADA and such. And then there’s John Levene, just being himself as Benton, reacting to everything exactly as he really would if it were happening. And he’s so earnest and quietly funny that he’s more fun to watch than some of the professionals.
Benton/John Levene is just a lovable bloke, OK?
12: Where is Nardole?
Nardole: I’m here, what happened?
12: Dammit! I thought I had finally gotten rid of you.
