Class with a capital ASS. Old enough to do the do but not old enough to be dead.
My anxiety: somethings off
Me: how so?
Anxiety: somethings wrong
Me: what
Anxiety: something
Me: like can you give me a general idea
Anxiety: somethings off

The dictionary took seven years. Marie worked on it constantly, sometimes until late at night, writing down remembered words on scraps of paper and typing them up slowly and carefully. Now she and her daughter hold weekly Wukchumni language classes, and sheโ€™s recording an audio version of the dictionary with her grandson.

The video and accompanying high school lesson planย seem like a decent introduction to language revitalization, although Iโ€™d add a small preemptive caution: Iโ€™ve heard from people involved in language revitalization that many arenโ€™t too fond of death metaphors like โ€œdyingโ€, โ€œdisappearingโ€, โ€œextinctโ€, โ€œsavingโ€, and so on. Words like โ€œendangeredโ€, โ€œstrugglingโ€, โ€œprecariousโ€, โ€œsleepingโ€, and โ€œrevitalizingโ€ emphasize the agency of the communities involved, even in the case where a language is brought back into speech from writings and recordings.ย

Iโ€™m not the mom friend, Iโ€™m the dad friend: tries to take care of his friends but is too distant and emotionally clumsy to be any good at it
