♿️ Happy Disability Pride Month.
[ID: Man in a wheelchair posing while crowd surfing at a rock concert; End ID]
all disabled and chronically ill people should get whatever items they need/want to make their life easier for free, wheelchairs, canes, shower chairs, compression gloves, heating pads etc. forever until the end of time.
Here's ur friendly reminder that we don't need to substitute words for disabled. Disabled isn't positive or negative. Disabled is disabled. I'm disabled <3
physically disabled bloggers posting about their real lives and real feelings on their own personal tumblr blogs are not oppressing you. they are not “excluding” you. they are not “just like terfs”. you are just an entitled little bitch who thinks physically disabled people owe you for literally no reason other than you feel special and fucking hate when cripples say “no” and have boundaries
So, after applying at least 3 times for disability, I got another letter saying I haven’t worked enough to get it.
I wonder why I haven’t worked?
(Hint: It’s because Im disabled)
The fact that people have to fight constantly with Social Security is bullshit. We are people too, we deserve to be able to afford basic necessities and not have to fight to live.
this disability pride month, stop making jokes about people in wheelchairs standing up or walking.
can I stand and walk? sure, for a short while and with pain. the consequences for trying to be out all day without a wheelchair are that I'll be in bed for the rest of the week, too tired and in too much pain to move.
but the government won't give me my own wheelchair because they have the same attitude as these jokes - I can stand up, so I don't need one. exercise is good for you, you should walk!
it keeps me trapped in the house, unable to do anything more than short stints anywhere without borrowing or hiring a wheelchair - one that causes me pain to sit in and relies on someone to push me (usually with difficulty), because they're not going to have a high-end chair for that sort of thing.
it's not a miracle that a wheelchair user can stand or walk. it's something we should aspire to see more often.
Hey, PSA for my fellow disabled people: UPS workers are trying to negotiate a new contract, and it looks like it's leading to a strike soon. Now, I am absolutely all for this, they need safe working conditions and should strike if need be, but for us?
Please contact your doctors and make sure you're prepared in any way possible. This will affect many of you, whether that's through med deliveries, oxygen tanks, or other one-use supplies. If you live in America, try to get in contact with an insurance case worker for resources and advice if you're able.
Stay safe, and hope that the precaution isn't necessary.
So I'd like you to meet my partners. This is the broken, this is the beaten, and this is the damned.
Here is the lover, theres the dreamer, and that one there on the right is me.
Just entered a new relationship. There's Paul, a real estate novelist who never had time for a wife, and Davy, who's still in the navy and probably will be for life.
Yeah, this is my new boyfriend and girlfriend. Yeah, he was a punk and she did ballet. What more can I say?
Yeah, just got a picture of our polycule back. On the left is the clown, on the right is the joker, and of course, stuck in the middle, there's you.
Happy disability pride month too;
Happy disability price month to those with borderline ID
Happy disability pride month to those with mild ID
Happy disability pride month to those with moderate ID
Happy disability pride month to those with severe ID
Happy disability pride month to everyone with ID who doesn’t feel like they belong.
Happy disability pride month to everyone with ID!!
For disability pride month (and the rest of the year) here's a shout out to
- people who have to take "scary" meds like antipsychotics, tranquilizers, schizo meds, lithium, opioids, and steroids because they're the only things that work
-people taking medicinal drugs that may be illegal in some areas
-people who have to get dangerous procedures and treatments
-people who will literally die without their meds and can't stop taking them
- people whose meds cause undesirable side effects
-people whose meds damage their bodies, but improve general quality of life enough that it's worth it
-people who get told to get off their meds constantly by people other than their doctors (or their doctors didn't want to put them on the med bc they're "too young")
-people who can't take medicine other than ibuprofen or Tylenol due to allergies, interactions, etc.
-people who are addicted to their medicine and don't want to stop taking it
-people who are addicted and want to stop taking their meds
-people still suffering from unforeseen side effects that still affect them even though they got off the meds
Our relationships with our medicines/treatments are complicated and no one body is ever exactly the same. Please be respectful of people's choices and feelings about their meds.
-people with a rare disorder with no proven treatment to ease the symptoms
The narrative that “you should care about disabled people because one day that’ll be you” is ableist in and of itself.
You should care about disabled people because you should care about the disenfranchisement of a marginalized community.
Becoming disabled is not a punishment. Becoming disabled is not a threat. Becoming disabled is not cosmic retaliation for being ableist. Becoming disabled is morally neutral.
Your daily reminder that inaccessibility isn’t just a little bother to disabled people but is part of a violent ableist culture that bars disabled people from many parts of life and treats them as unimportant and unneeded
Accessibility should not be an afterthought, especially when it comes to radical events
Things that would fix the internet immediately:
- Bring back Club Penguin for the kids
- Create a separate Club Penguin for adults which is exactly the same except you're allowed to swear
then gandalf the gay and gandalf the bi and monty python and the holy grails trans pride
this disability pride month, remember our loved ones who are locked up, institutionalized, and incarcerated. Remember our loved ones who are in carceral group homes that wouldn't pass the burrito test. Remember our loved ones who are cut off from disability community and forcibly isolated through the violent ableism of these institutions. Disability solidarity means that we must create these community connections that transgress these barriers and lets our loved ones know that they are valued, important, and that we are fighting for their freedom.
This disability pride month, send a care package to your local psych ward or residential treatment facility.
Support patient organizing, prison protests, and advocacy for independent living.
This disability pride month, commit to fighting for abolition of all forms of incarceration, from psych wards to residential treatment to prisons.
You know what, happy Disability Pride Month to everybody who is always the youngest patient in the waiting room at your specialists' offices.
