This is why we need diversity in design, these answer SO MANY problems that some people face every single day.

And now that we have them, who else would just enjoy these things? Who would use them to solve a problem they have with some activities? Or in some outfits?

So a real thing with the dissolution of social networks is the loss of small connections. Funny takes and long threads can be archived, but how do you preserve your bond with a mutual? How do you find each other again? With every platform move we lose small connections with people we appreciated. That’s a sad, involuntary little break-up. twitter is going to be shut down. half of reddit is locked or completely unmoderated. the entire first page of google search results are ads. tumblr does not and will never have a functioning search system and their content moderation is 100% automated. youtube only shares ad revenue with people who make snuff films for Youtube Kids. facebook is selling your grandma’s social security number under the table for like $5. web 2.0 is completely dead right

not disagreeing with the overall sentiment of this post but the juxtaposition of "reddit is having problems because no one wants to do unpaid moderation work that sucks" and "tumblr is having problems because their moderation is 100% automated [side note: is it? I don't think this is true lol] so humans don't have to do moderation work that sucks" is... maybe ironic isn't the right word. the obvious solution is to hire more human content moderators but even for-hire moderators are almost always underpaid contractors, often in the global south, often asked to review content in their non-native language, and 99% of companies will never ever pay them better because they simply cannot afford to without eating into their (often nonexistent) bottom line. which is bad. so perhaps this whole social media thing is untenable

Hey y'all! With Twitter failing more over time and it being my main income source as a disabled artist I figure I should share my Patreon. I share WIPs for every piece, have a very nice discord community and have monthly sticker tiers with a patron-only sticker every month. OH FUCK! okay twitter is dead, that’s amazing. this is a death blow. does he not understand that the platform relies on addictive doom scrolling, and that people actively want to quit but can’t because it activates all the right brain chemicals? this is wonderful for me at least, with Elon’s help I can finally kick this particular addiction.

I believe Elon’s trying to kill Twitter on purpose, this is beyond incompetence. The advertisers are pissed

two other possible things at play here:

1. elon is a cheapskate and has failed miserably at migrating from google to whatever bubblegum-and-popsicle-sticks server he’s underpaying

2. the newly-implemented prevention from viewing tweets without an account has broken the site to the point where it’s eating itself alive

he’s lying. he’s always fucking lying. and he’s always one of the stupidest motherfuckers on the planet.
