I recently posted about this on my page. Thankfully a mutual of mine sent this to me. I addressed some of my perspectives about this horrifying and ongoing/developing story -which I will update here once I see Maha Hussaini or her fellow journalists sharing their documentations.

I just want to make sure that this is continues to be addressed/spoken about. This is beyond horrifying, and I hope those children are safely brought back to their families and loved ones -free from the IOF -because this is just insidious.

This one’s an always-reblog, because who knows who needs it and hasn’t seen it yet?

regarding my last reblog i wanted to make a longer post about how cool shadow knights actually are conceptually (as well as their dichotomy with guards in parallel to shad and irene as institutions).

especially thinking about how shadow knights are essentially a creation of spite on shad's behalf. irene is the one who instated lordship as the main form of government, and as such lords and their guards have a very significant relationship. it's even said early on that a "light" (presumably symbolic of irene's blessing/will) protects the bond between a lord and their guard(s).

that's what makes shadow knights so insidious. while not all shadow knights are deceased guards, many of them are, and in fact many of them died specifically to protect their lord/while enacting their lord's will. shad twists that devotion into bloodlust, ensuring that every shadow knight that died in this way must kill their lord in order to reach their full potential. a guard becoming a shadow knight is a severing of the light that supposedly protects the bond of guard and lord, a taunt by shad that spits on irene's sanctions and seeks to torch everything she built in her lifetime.

even the etymology of the two titles, "guard" and "knight", show these differences. a guard feels personal, somebody who has devoted themselves to protecting something. "guard" is both a noun and a verb, implying willful action on behalf of the one who guards. on the other hand, "knight" is a formal title. a knight, first and foremost, represents the king they serve, and they are loyal to him alone. knights wield swords and wear heavy plated armour and don't ask questions. and while guards in ru'ann do the same, they are rarely so rigidly uniformed and single minded in their service. a guard is a valued pillar of their community, a knight is a disposable piece on a chess board.
