I worry that social media is making us antisocial. When everyone is reduced to small photos and terse comments, and we don’t see hurt looks when we say callous things; when insults become easier than understanding, and shaming trumps sympathy; when we can block others from our lives with the swipe of a finger, we lose connections with other people. I think it is pulling at the loose threads of our society more than we realize. The finer fabric is destroyed the fastest, leaving behind a coarser and coarser weave, and only the lunatic fringe grows longer.
