Hot take ig but kids in high school shouldn't have to work either. They should be spending their evenings doing homework and extra-curriculars and fucking around.
There definitely shouldn't be entire industries reliant on their low-wage labor. Why are there many kids being scheduled for a 6 hour shift after a 7 hour school day when they've got learning and their future and their childhood to worry about?
Any industry built on poverty wage child labor should perish, and that's most fast food and grocery and retail so I guess the economy's tanked 🤷. Should've thought about that before deciding to make the essential work into jobs for children and the underclass.

biden 2024 - making things work
This is why I honestly feel like Biden was the best possible choice in a shitty situation, even with his age and potential health issues. Because if nothing else, he is NOT REACTIONARY. He is methodical and dedicated. Do I wish he acted a little faster and with more of an eye towards progressive policies? Obviously yes. But given the choices, and given everything else that's happened, Biden has absolutely made the best of a bad situation. Sometimes you don't need a hero, you need a fucking repairman to come and just make it work until it can be fixed. And he's a damn good repairman.

This is his biggest problem unfortunately. He's the kind who "doesn't want to gloat" but he NEEDS to let people know what he's accomplishing! Most young voters are never going to see this article and just remember him "busting the strike." The Democrats need to learn how to do a victory lap.

For those wondering, the bill passed but with an amendment that trans people would only be charged if they entered "with the purpose of sexual gratification".
So, in other words, only if they have intent to commit a sex crime. However, there is needless to say a strong bias to view trans women as sexual predators that will put the odds against them to prove their innocence in court. And even if they are found innocent, the fact they've been tried for a sex crime will jeopardize their housing and employment prospects.
Even in its more toned-down form, it's just another avenue for transphobes to make our lives a living hell.
The vagueness of "for the purpose of sexual gratification" alarms me.
Transphobes already think we transition for sexual gratification and fetish/kink reasons. There's nothing stopping them from saying *every* trans woman who exists in public is doing so for sexual gratification.
So if a trans woman only exists in public as a form of sexual gratification, if she uses the restroom (notice they didn't specify *which* bathroom, this could be men's or women's) she is doing so for the purpose of sexual gratification. So it doesn't change the law even a little.
This was 100% a cop out for them. A way to show they "listened" to the outrage that outpoured over this while maintaining both the spirit and the intent of the law with some very vague weasel words.
Don't let them off the hook for that.

It's already illegal to commit a sex crime in public bathrooms. All this bill does is make it easier to falsely convict trans people as sex offenders.
People who don't fill their homes with plants and flowers are dull and boring and too pretentious.
Some of us are really, really bad with house plants, and not having a green thumb is not a character flaw.
Some of us live in temporary residences, and plants really don't move well.
Some of us have pets and/or very young children, that either they are dangers to plants, or plants are dangers to them.
Some of us are disabled/chronically ill and can barely keep up with taking care of ourselves on a daily basis.
Some of us simply have different hobbies and other things we'd rather look after and spend time with.
a house without live plants is NOT “pretentious” when there are people within plant enthusiast communities who are responsible for poaching species of plants from their native habitats for their own personal entertainment & profit, to the detriment of the species/ecosystem
we (plant lovers) may not be doing it personally but we are the target customers. there are coastal succulents, orchids, carnivorous plants, etc that have been wiped out from their native ranges entirely by poachers who clone them in warehouses and sell them online/internationally/illegally for huge profits (because they have the only ones. because they wiped them out.)
…primarily to people who have elitist, classist, & ableist attitudes about their houseplant collection & treat them like a symbol of status & another “hustle” as opposed to a hobby
The shit I see as pretentious, as someone with a house full of plants and a giant garden, is when people see keeping houseplants and gardens as a moral trait rather than an aspect of their personality. You're not any better than anyone else for keeping a green thing alive in your house. It's how you use your time instead of like... building a cool computer or having a second or third job.
It’s never been more lonely or isolating to be a young person than these last 5 years. Meeting actual people you can connect with takes a lot of energy and time so at the end of the day it’s the vulnerable people that are being left behind
And sometimes I lay awake and think ‘’What if I will forever be this lonely little thing? What if I die like this?’’ so im putting effort into preventing that. But I know not everyone is able to do that. I guess what im trying to say is that I suspect there are a lot of lonely people and these numbers will only increase. So if you’re lonely rn I just wanna say that you’re not alone in this. It’s just really hard

- stop assuming situationally/selectively mute people can understand sign language. often we can't use it, because of the freeze response. same with aac, most of the time i can't use it, because social anxiety/sm.
- no situational and selective and elective mutism are not words for differences in how far they 'choose' not to speak; they are just different words for the same disorder. (meaning: they are not distinct disorders).
- stop only taking people's disabilities seriously when they have aids with them. (when i have my aac on me and can use it, i'm "oh he can't speak sometimes." but when i don't, i'm "he's just in a mood" or "he's just quiet.")
