The opening shot of They Cloned Tyrone says the movie is about the white gaze. Let me see if I’m right
when I was in film school "film bros" were specifically a variety of mediocre man (usually cishet and white) with zero imagination that would just glom onto the most popular "auteur filmmakers" in the US, like Tarantino and the Coen Brothers and even Nolan, and poorly attempt to mimic these guys without any of the skill or craft knowledge to know what it even is that they're truly trying to mimic. I mean, I suppose it's always been a nebulous colloquial term but that's basically how we as people in film always understood it. and seeing it be mutated into a pejorative for anyone with a deeper interest in film beyond trending Hollywood features is actually kind of shit. literally the opposite of what was being criticized.

Help a disabled woman to keep her utilities on!!
**URGENT: PLEASE READ/SIGNAL BOOST**
Tuesday, July 25th: Hello everyone, I’m Gemma, a bi, mentally ill, and disabled woman in desperate need of help, as I'm struggling to keep my utilities on and they're on emergency credit.
As most of you are already aware from my previous posts, I have been struggling financially these past few years due to Covid-19 and my welfare benefit (Universal Credit) being under continuous reviews, which is due to my worsening mental/physical health and the UK’s controversial changes to how benefits are assessed and assigned. After a lengthy health assessment, I have been declared not to be fit for work. However, I am still waiting for the outcome of my Adult Disability application, which I applied for back on January 15th!!
To be quite honest, these past few months have been absolute hell for me, and with no other income, I've been relying on the kindness of others to get by. However, due to my outstanding debt, it's been difficult and I don't receive my welfare until the 31st, which isn't enough to cover my rent and bills and I'm still struggling so much to keep my utilities on.
If anyone could spare any amount to help me, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would save my life, and sharing definitely helps just as much. Thank you so much for all your help!! ❤
£0/£100!!
Hey yeah in the midst of all the hype and the strikes, can we PLEASE fucking talk about this
Hey yeah in the midst of all the hype and the strikes, can we PLEASE fucking talk about this
“Forgot” is a fun choice of words…
I really hope people online aren't getting the wrong impression of unions and that they're flawless Things that will protect them from any and all mistreatment and that strikes are fun little treats union workers get
Unions are People not Things. Union leaders can fuck up. Unions can definitely operate in a way that gets you low wages and poor benefits if you're not being represented well.
A union by itself does not guarantee you anything. Unions take work and money to run. You pay dues, you go to meetings, you vote. You protect each other in a union. You don't join a union and magically have everything taken care of for you.
Strikes are a powerful tool but are scary. They're not a goal to achieve. Unions don't aim to go on strike during negotiations.
Also things do not become morally good or bad based on unions. The police unions that are all over the news being shitty about the idea that their members should be held accountable? Yeah those are still unions. The workplaces are still unionized workplaces. Because unions are just collective groups of people that get together to protect their interests.
Whether those interests are good for anyone other than those in the union or not. One of the struggles locally (that is, my province) is that the interests of the labour unions of a bunch of different industrial fields are genuinely in conflict with, for instance, a large number of kinds of environmental legislation.
Unions are a tool and a process by which you attempt to balance out the disproportionate power held by those with money or with overarching control over a particular area of work. They are a good idea and a good thing overall, but they aren't magic - as OP says if they're not run well they're not effective, and they are only as ethically or morally good as the people they represent choose to be. And a strike is literally the Final Weapon in a union arsenal, and are hella hard on both society (if they matter at all) AND on the strikers themselves.
This is incredibly important to remember.
Unions are institutions. Like all institutions, they vary based on many factors: geography, structure, approach, effectiveness. They are comprised of people, and people are flawed and fallible. A poorly run union, or a union run by people whose interests don't align with their membership, can be institutional barriers to progress as much as an effective, representative union can advance it.
Unions are not all made equal. It is the actions they take, not their mere existence as unions, that determines if they are a force for moral good in the context in which they exist.
Just an fyi
If you work for a company that records calls “for training purposes ” etc. The recorder doesn’t know the difference between personal calls, internal calls, and the ones you are making with the public.
So stop calling your pharmacy, your significant others, and them on the company phone. Also stop talking badly about your job and Co workers on that phone for the same reason.
Signed, The person who is paid to listen to all of the calls and potentially write you up for saying things you shouldn’t …for training purposes.
Eta. I stop listening when I realize it’s to a pharmacy. I’m nice. Some other folks in my field of work might not.
Hiii I’m back.
Um…talking shit on the customer’s while their on hold is a whooooole write up. Stop that shit

republican courts and lawmakers are forcing people to
-endure unviable and dangerous pregnancies
-forcing autonomous adults to detransition by denying them access to life-saving healthcare
-taking newborns from black families that refuse to give birth in the state apparatus (even tho the state apparatus actively kills black mothers and newborns in hospitals across the country)
-proposing laws that will forceable separate trans youth from their families or get adults that support trans youth arrested
-the ‘fuck it! everybody can get a gun!’ laws that basically gives gun access to everyone and anyone in state (same people complaining abt violent crime)
-basically ran an eugenics campaign on the disabled and elderly and children (and u know the rest of us too) all through the beginning of the pandemic and even thru now even as we are beginning to learn that covid accelerates and causes neurodegenerative diseases
the democratic response has been
-hire more cops
-soft okay the legislative attempts to do a genocide on trans citizens and residents
-shit the bed on abortion access and healthcare access in general by not fighting the conservative bullshit logic behind ‘leaving it up to the states’ that doesn’t work and we can historically trace back to…..u know, the slavery era of the US. not preparing a timely response to roe v wade—not challenging the obvious activist supreme court
-completely remove covid restrictions and protections, forced children back into school without any protection or precaution, lifted mask mandates, nixed all funding for covid testing, social support programs for those of us that have been financially impacted by covid-19, grabbing the eugenics torch from the republicans to run to the shitty politician finish line.
europeans have types of racism i didn't even know existed
you can drive for two hours in europe and pass through 17 different types of racism
“American ideas of race don’t apply in Europe” true! Very true! Y’all have race divisions like shrimp colors.
Reading H*rry P*tter had a line about how you can’t trust a redhead and that blew my mind as a kid. The white on white violence of it all.

I made a funny haha-adjacent post about donations for my birthday, but now I’m kinda of actually struggling waiting to get paid at the end of this week (I SHOULD, pray for me; I THOUGHT I was getting a raise this month but it kicks in next month). My mental health is getting its ass kicked thorough this aaaaand all the things I have chronic pain with are firing on all cylinders so. I could use some help if you can. If you can’t send some coin, a reblog is always helpful🥲🥲

As always, thanks for reading 💖
the occasional mpreg or omegaverse joke is funny in a haha fandom way but some of you can clearly not read the fucking room because why do i open any replies on posts/pics about trans men undergoing pregancy and its all like omegaverse knotting jokes. can’t you say ‘congrats’ and move on instead of bringing fanfiction fetish brainrot to the immediate attention of strangers going through the extremly vulnrable and scary situation of being visably pregnant as a trans person.
also just like in general stop being so fucking weird about pregnant men like jokes are one thing. i get that its a fandom phenomeon. but if you can’t just. think for a moment about how it might feel to be a pregnant man in a world where being visably trans or defying gender expectations can be dangerous and where every stage of pregnancy and birth is incredibly gendered. i think you can get why theres a difference with being a mpreg weirdo on literally every mention of male pregnancy ever
