Day 7: Alternate Universe - Veronica Mars → Orphan Black(esque) Veronica Mars is a private investigator tearing across the country in search of her missing father, when she reaches the town of Neptune - the last place she tracked a call from her father. Her desperate search is made all the more difficult by her run-ins with the law during her investigation, but Veronica doesn’t have time to stop her search and square things out. When Veronica witnesses a young woman in a torn-up white dress, her eyes piercing through her smeared make-up - a woman who could very well be Veronica’s twin - step in front of a moving truck, Veronica quickly swipes the girl’s ID wallet and keys, fleeing the scene. Seeing this as an opportunity to buy her investigation time in Neptune, Veronica assumes the identity of the woman - Lilly Kane. Lilly’s keys lead Veronica to the home of Lilly’s boyfriend, Logan Echolls. At first Veronica forces herself to put her emotions about lying to the seemingly sweet Logan aside, reassuring herself that the deception is for her father. Things become difficult however, when Veronica suspects Logan isn’t the American sweetheart he appears to be in Lilly’s pictures. She’s right. Unbeknownst to Veronica, Logan knows she is not Lilly and has a motive entirely of his own. 

The pair begin to get close whilst both putting on a façade. The truth is inevitably uncovered when in the course of Veronica’s investigation for her father she is led to Kane Software (Lilly Kane?) and finds her life threatened. Their acts collide when Logan is forced to make a choice to protect Veronica against his own best interests as an employee of Kane Software. Despite both having lied, Veronica and Logan experience genuine feelings for each other and decide (against their better judgement) to pursue their relationship. Logan reveals that Veronica has made the right connection between Lilly Kane and Kane Software and the disappearance of her father, but Lilly Kane and Veronica are not long-lost twins - they are clones.

With the introduction of more clones, who each have their own families and own set of problems, things only get more complicated. As Veronica and Logan’s very lives are put on the line their bond grows stronger, but will their relationship be able to survive the discovery of Logan’s extended history with not only Kane Software, but the Kane family? And in an investigation so deadly, with so many lives on the line, can they really afford the luxury of trust and love?

That’s what I love about music. Even the most banal scenes are suddenly invested with so much meaning, you know? All these banalities, they suddenly turn into these beautiful, effervescent p e a r l s.

“I’m sure it does seem kind of stupid to make some sort of rigid plan for the future, but it’s stupider not to start paying attention to who you are and what makes you happy. Otherwise you just… Float.”

At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can. / Feet, what do I need you for if I have wings to f l y ?

Day Six: Favourite Romantic Moment - 2x22 - the final Logan and Veronica scene of season two.

I’ve chosen this scene because for me it highlights the best of the development of Logan and Veronica’s relationship throughout the entire series. This scene is very reminiscent of the early stages of their relationship in season one, as Kendall describes the moment, “young love”. It also shows how their feelings were buried during season two rather than non-existent. While that was obvious to most, it anchors the point nicely, coming off an intense and dramatic climax, the scene doesn’t feel like a forced happy-ending because of all the great foreshadowing throughout the season. Speaking of foreshadowing, this scene foreshadows their relationship in season three and the fact that we will get to see them in an actual relationship as opposed to arguably just riding the high of “young love”.
