we as a society genuinely need movie rental stores back so much
you saw my rotting soul and you ran from me. i beg you- did you not help create me? you dragged me through the desolate abyss without looking at how my skin tore and bled, how my bones broke and shattered, how my mind contorted unrecognizably, and now when you finally are forced to look at my mangled being, you run from your own morbid art piece and call me the monster.
Ngl I think most jobs should be illegal
"be able to stand for 12 hours"
"overtime required"
"must show up 10 minutes before scheduled clock in time"
"11 hour shifts with 30 minute break"

you're ruining me. you feed on me like a starving mutt. what is there left of me that you havent corrupted ? i wouldnt know- i never knew the me i was before you came along. you take my own thoughts away from me. all the flaws ive blamed on myself, was it you i should have been accusing ? the fear, the hate, the bitterness. you caused them, havent you ? you made me and the world around me as empty and meaningless as you are. yet its not enough for you, is it ? what do you want ? do you want the final piece of me destroyed ? my flesh and blood. the only thing you cant seemingly touch. you poke and you prod, testing the limits of my torment. how far must you go before you convince me ? before i rid of the body. im sure you would make sure i wouldnt feel any pain, you are always so good at that.
he wants love. he wants yearning and rapture. i can give him nothing but blank stares and hollow affections. what does he see when he looks through me ? what does he feel when his head is on my chest ? can he hear the dull and slow thud of my empty heart ? i know he wishes it would beat faster for him. i do too.
my soul suffered a premature death, yet i remain. death took my soul and left me bare. i wonder, does my soul watch in horror as its body still moves, a stitched together monster ? does it weep at the sorrows ill never feel ? does it envy the short lived memories meant to be theirs ? does it feel betrayed at what i am- its vessel come to life, strung up like a puppet playing the part meant to be theirs.
if you find yourself enjoying a movie, or book, that most others did not like- you do not have to pretend you didnt like it for fear of ridicule. not everything needs serious opinions and you do not need to heed to others simply because what they say may make sense. sure, perhaps the last third lacked momentum, or maybe that middle was a bit laggy, but if it did not take away from *your* enjoyment, why should you change your opinion that it is good ?
people who want accuracy over everything ignore how rich a movie can be when applied with creative liberties. a book is not a movie and a movie not a book. asking one to be the other is impossible. a scene that works in a book may not in a movie. so sit down and enjoy the damn movie my good fellow it will not kill you
When will creators of famous and beloved franchises realise that no fan in the history of fandoms has wanted the sequel with the new generation to have higher stakes and more angsty drama than the original.
A Fan: Wow, can’t wait to see the heroes’ children living in a world that has been made better by the original heroes, having a loving and respectful relationship with the hero I loved and respected as a child, and dealing with their own adventure that might not be as high stake as saving the world, but is important for their own personal journey.
A creator: How about the world is ending again, the new generation hates the heroes, who have become major assholes for no reason, and everything is bigger and goes more boom.
Hobbit/Lord of the Rings is the SINGLE exception to higher stakes sequel
and you know why? it’s bc nothing in lotr undid what happened in the hobbit
the hobbit was a lower-stakes story about bilbo helping some dwarves reclaim their ancestral home, and in lotr (the book at least) tolkien goes out of his way to talk about how bilbo lived for a long time rich and famous and happy, and that erebor and dale are prosperous and successful. the threat is something that bilbo brought home with him, but if bilbo hadn’t found it, it would have fallen into worse hands.
the reason why higher-stakes sequels are so often disappointing is bc it’s a betrayal of the original work, and undoes its premise and its victory. in the hobbit, they were never setting out to save the whole of middle earth, so the fact that the whole of middle earth ends up in peril during lotr doesn’t feel like a betrayal. terrible things happen in lotr, but they are better than they would have been in the hobbit hadn’t happened, and that’s why it works
