My mom taught me cutting cucumbers in thin slices and then pouring (quite a lot of) sugar on them is the only correct way to eat them - which led me to believe I hate cucumbers, but after trying them with salt it turns out I just hate sugary cucumbers. not to mention her by her own admission making werewolves an allegory for aids, then portraying werewolves as uncontrollably violent and some purposely trying to infect others, and making the one good werewolf in the story a straight man, and making it so said straight man got infected as a child by a bad werewolf (a child murderer) who broke into his bedroom as a child to infect him. the implications of this ARE NOT GREAT. CONSIDERING JKR HAS STATED HERSELF THAT LYCANTHROPY IS AN ALLEGORY FOR AIDS.
plus all the shit in fantastic beasts: appropriation of native american culture, making nagini an asian woman and also a snake who is voldemort’s pet, putting in a plotline where a black woman becomes a white man’s sex slave and her son is portrayed as unjustified in trying to get revenge, making it so the MAIN VILLAIN is 1. gay and 2. wanted to stop the holocaust and the protagonists.. stop him from stopping the holocaust?? (yeah i have no idea what she was thinking either, fantastic beasts 2 is the worst movie ever made)
and even if you’re like “well these are all bad, and fantastic beasts is bad, but if you take them away the core of the original series is still good!”... that’s not true either! when you look at all the stuff that’s really important to the story, it’s all garbage too. harry potter redeems snape, a misonynist child-abusing stalker. harry potter portrays slytherin as an organization that has both historically and in modern times aligned itself with nazi-allegory fascists, and then says “no slytherin is fine actually and they have good qualities and being a slytherin is okay!” the MAIN PLOT of harry potter is drenched in apologism for all kinds of horribleness.
oh and i just want to mention the house elves “slaves actually like being slaves stop trying to free them” plotline again because what the FUCK was that??
