Use the words you want to use; play with language, experiment, use said, use adverbs, use “unrealistic” writing patterns, slap words you don’t even know are words on the page. Language is a sandbox and you, as the author, are at liberty to shape it however you wish. Build castles. Build a hovel. Build a mountain on a mountain or make a tiny cottage on a hill. Whatever it is you want to do. Write.

SO GUYS I MEASURED OUT HOW TALL ALL THE MAIN CHARACTERS ARE

Each pixel was about two inches, which is consistent with measurements I saw from Undertale  we had a fairly unsurprising height for Susie 

She’s a decent amount over six feet. 

Kris came in at 5′4 

Surprisingly, Ralsei is the same height as me at 5′7, which I find surprisingly tall.

Lancer was 4′3, which makes sense but was still a bit taller than I thought.  His DAD was a pretty big guy at 8′2 

BUT GUYS  THE CRAZIEST THING

IS THAT THIS FUCKER 

IS FUCKING 8 FOOT 8  AND THAT WAS WITHOUT COUNTING HIS FOOT OUTLINE AND STOPPING AT HIS HAIRLINE.  HE WAS 9′1 IF I COUNTED THAT BUT I REFUSE TO BELIEVE HE’S A FOOT TALLER THAN THE KING.  I AM LOSING MY MIND OVER THIS.

Noelle is 6′3 to Susie 6′4 not counting Noelles antlers or Susie’s big hair respectively. 

Clover is 10′8″ or about two Krises tall. 

Also I might add Queen to this list and any other characters I get requests on. Maybe Berdly? Does anyone care about Berdly’s height?

Seeing a few people ask about Spamton and Spamton Neo so here you go  Kris is 5′4 or 32 pixels tall, and when sizing them up against regular Spamton we find that they’re actually the same height basically [Spamton was weirdly one pixel higher off the ground than Kris so I reoriented him to a level playing field] 

Spamton Neo on the other hand TOWERS over Kris  Even when putting them on a level playing field rather than having Neo floating on the puppet strings Kris barely makes it above his knees 

So how tall IS he? He’s definitely twice Kris’ size so he’s at least 10 feet 

Well Gang, he’s 80 px tall give or take and 160″ 

Not quite fifteen feet but Spamton is 13 feet tall Just to double check these he should be shorter than three Kris tall but taller than two Susies 

Which is indeed just what we see! So yeah Spamton gets almost three times bigger in Neo form. 

It’s hilariously fun! If you guys have any other characters you want me to take a crack at let me know.  Kris is basically my ruler at this point because even if for some reason pixel measurements seem different across different characters or videos I can pull from, Kris is almost always in any given scene and I can be like- okay Kris is 5′4 so what are you

I decided to check across multiple pictures and the first one I’ve gotten 37px, 74″ or 6′2

 which would make him just a little shorter than Noelle and Susie 

Looking at the shot from the ferris wheel reunion we see that checks out! 

And just for fun I decided to measure up the group shot, everything seems to check out! Susie might be a little taller, around 6′6, but I can’t say for sure.  Anyhow Berdly is a 6′2 chad and you all have to deal with it lmao

where’s that post about how dangerous it is that people are forgetting fiction is sometimes meant to be uncomfortable and upsetting and sad. i need to pull it up again with regard to survival games specifically because people will really walk into a story where they know in advance “people are going to die and it’s going to feel awful because they won’t always deserve it” and then get mad when people die even if they don’t deserve it and call it bad writing 

when you’re a grown adult consuming narratives made for grown adults you shouldn’t be surprised when there isn’t a happy ending on a story labeled as a tragedy in bright red sharpie. you should not still think that all the right characters are going to go home satisfied at the end of the day. of course it sucks when your faves die and of course you feel bad about it and you think of what could have been but when an author makes the decision to do that you always have to think about why. what kind of story is being told here? what does this action accomplish, individually and thematically? why does it make me feel the way it does? the people who write narratives centered around survival games are often asking themselves these same questions as they build their overarching plots, and this is how you’re able to uncover the arguments they are making about human psychology and society at large.

so i have to question, then, the media literacy of the people who watched squid game and came away from it talking about who should and shouldn’t have died, or people who are frantically trying to dig a “here’s how everyone can get out and be a-okay!” out of the rubble or people who make 5 million aus involving their favorite goddamn minecraft youtubers, when absolutely none of that is the point
