A Spider Frog Named Jack

@aspiderfrogjack

They/them, multi fandom and confused
I’m just a frog in a spider costume

Folks, friends, y’all…. esk*mo is a slur. I understand a lot of people don’t know that, I don’t want to be a dick about it, but I’ve been seeing it in fics. Wanna write “esk*mo kisses”? Just say “nuzzled noses” or something.

I’m not here to call anybody out, it’s been in multiple fics, I’m not vague posting. This is just a psa. 👍🏻

If you could help me spread awareness about this by reblogging, I’d really appreciate it.

I’ve had this post on insta saved for sometime ❤️

[Text Description: “Hey! Reminder: Eskimo is a slur. It means ‘snow eaters’ in Cree and is a slur against Inuit . Also don’t use ‘Eskimo kisses’. It’s called Kunik. It is a greeting mostly used for family… Kunik was how I’d greet my mom and grandmother as a small child.” /TD]

Rebloging for the awareness and especially for the alternative words

And so people who are just learning this now know the proper usage: “Inuit” is plural. The singular is “Inuk”, as in “he is an Inuk”

Tumblr people don't seem to understand money, so I'm going to have to sound like a patronizing snot, but here we go...

Labor costs time and effort. That time and effort is compensated for with money. Maintaining servers, fixing bugs, and preventing hacks, costs money. The company that owns the servers and hires the workers, needs money, or their workers don't get paid, and the product they make can't be made, because most people don't work for free, and making them work for free is slavery, which is bad.

So to make money, the companies can sell stuff, OR it can make deals with advertisers, where the advertisers give them money to run ads in the hopes that people will see the ads and buy their products.

We don't like advertisers.

We like the add-minimal experience on Tumblr

If we want Tumblr to have LESS to NO ads, they need to think that simply selling a product straight will make them more money

We are buying the crabs.

It’s already happening. Like guys I cannot emphasize this enough the studios are going to make content creators the deal of a lifetime because they have a void to fill and those content creators will then be on the do not work list for the rest of their professional lives.

King

Worth noting that he protested loudly against the WWE doing a show in Saudi Arabia after the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi, and the company retaliated by making sure he hasn’t been on TV or PPV since. Not fired, of course, so they can keep selling merchandise with his face on it (and keep him from joining the competition), just out of the public eye so he and his protests gets forgotten by the fans.

Picture that: an ubiquitous celeb and household name like John Cena basically got black bagged and vanished for speaking up for human rights. That’s the power of capitalism, kids

For the record, accidentally tapping on Tumblr live when it randomly appears every week does not count as using Tumblr live for the sake of this poll. This is only referring to purposeful use of the feature.

I'd appreciate it if people could share this for a larger sample size!

Wtf is tumblr live

“Stay with me,” Whumper whispered, their hand tracing over Whumpee’s trembling hand which clung to the door knob.

“You can’t face the world on your own.”

Whumpee let out a shaky breath before uncurling each finger from the door, fully leaning into Whumper’s grip.

Whumper smirked, leaning in close and whispering in the other’s ear, “I am all you need.”

I DIDN’T LEARN ABOUT THIS IN DRIVING SCHOOL

Dude, I got the same person (with different username of course) and had a whole freaking conversation with them before I blocked them and only after I had seen this with the exact same messages I got, did I realize,

It was a bot.

The advice of "every word has to advance the plot" is so wild like why are you starving it. If story is craving some good scene that doesn't advance the plot but it's cool and you want it to happen, do it. Feed your story so it can grow strong.

It's actually not wild at all, and here's why. "Advancing the plot" does not mean THE MAIN PLOT. It's an umbrella term for advice which means the words on the page should always be serving the story you're trying to tell.

What it does not mean is: write and include ONLY scenes relating to the main plot.

What it does mean and include is:

- Any and all scenes relating to the main plot as well as any and all scenes relating to subplots, character arcs, character's development and growth, which are plots in their own right. They can and often deter from the main "plot" angle and direction, in detours and "breather scenes" etc.

- Any scene or circumstance which can (and do) show the plot's effect on both characters and setting. But also incidences where the setting is relevant in its own right, to better place the reader in the world.

- Any scenes wherein important interactions may take place to further not only the main plot, but subplots, character arcs and relationships.

- Any scenes where information is relayed to both characters and readers, whether actively or passively, which will pay off someway within the main story, or it's various subplots.

All of the above is "advancing the plot" which most typically, is what makes up an entire story. These scenes will very likely include in some way the things you think are "really cool" as well, and I would hope so!

The current trend against the relevance of plot (and a misunderstanding of how to write subplots and what that means) is actually denying a story its density and sustenance. The good news is you can make anything relevant to a many number of plots and subplots, and especially the things you think are really cool!

Can I just say, if you haven't written anything at all this year or you've tried but there's no motivation/ inspiration, please don't feel bad

I've had burnout from writing 4 wips last year and usually, six months into the year I've already written 2 wips but this year I have had NO WIPS finished to my name, but I've started a couple

I have no motivation, I've been doing arts and crafts instead and I've been having so much fun doing literally everything else.

Please, if you're struggling to write - read a book, do puzzles, watch TV and movies, go outside, go the park. Do normal human shit and just learn to love yourself. You are worth it. Things will come back

alright for the millionth time I'm seeing yet another author I admire talk about how they literally can barely afford to live & yet there are people openly admitting to pirating their books so, like

i guess it needs to be said again

pirating books is not the same as pirating your favourite Disney movie or whatever. book piracy kills author's incomes and can genuinely ruin someone's career

Textbooks and other research materials being paywalled by greedy fucking publishing houses who won't pay any of that money to the authors anyway? Pirate them.

Novel written by an author and published through a regular publishing house? BORROW FROM A LIBRARY or buy outright. Do not pirate. The sales/borrow numbers OUTRIGHT determines pay to the author, whether their next book gets greenlit or cancelled, etc.

Multi-volume series that you want to read the end of? BUY OR LIBRARY.

You can get ebooks and audiobooks through your library! Don’t pirate books!

Yes! If you really can't afford a book, see if your library has it! And if they don't, libraries sometimes add more books if you request it! Especially if multiple people ask for it or if it's a popular sell already. Also libraries can and often do have ways to avoid late fees and some have gotten rid of late fees altogether.
