i think the fact that you can show a bunch of different people the same piece of media and they all see the same character

and every single person is charmed by different character traits, intrigued by different flaws, everybody each relates to different parts of the these character's stories. people project their unique problems and traits onto the same character

so you end up with a thousand slightly different versions of one character, and everyone focuses on certain aspects and downplays others and has different reasons why this character stuck out to them, why they love this character so much

and like i just think thats really beautiful and shows how and why art is so meaningful and like idk i think thats kind of extremely cool, actually

Wild how the queer community has been fighting tooth and nail for generations to have some semblance of inclusion and just the desire to not be beaten, arrested, or killed for existing.

Then there is less than 10 years of policies put in place to help us start being treated more humanely and the Conservative party is like “Actually we rather you die again” openly and proudly.

Wild how allowing ppl to live has made them so angry and more open about their fascism.

Meanwhile half of the younger queers online are too preoccupied with terminology and gatekeeping fandom engagement while our country actively works to eradicate the community honing social media to propagate propaganda.

Telling other lgbtqia members that using the term “queer” is problematic and bad is more aligned with conservative’s views of hiding and destroying queerness. When you get that gatekeeping towards your own community you are making it easier to break us apart.

They aren't going to stop with "don't say gay", they aren't going to stop with "no trans healthcare", they aren't going to stop with bathrooms or sports teams or "parental rights". They want to revoke your marriage, they want to take away your kids, they want to fire you for being gay, they want to arrest you for being GNC, they want to re-educate you for being ace, they want you poor, homeless, despairing and dead--and they want all that as an example to the next generation of queer people, so they stay closeted and paranoid.

And if they get everything on that wish list, they'll come for more. You're not safe as a rich white gay man; you're not safe as a middle-class femme lesbian; you're not safe as a "passing" transperson with all your paperwork legally sealed. Stand with the entire queer community or sooner or later you'll be on the right's chopping block.

We've had 20 years of safety - based on a SCOTUS ruling based, in large part, on Roe v Wade.

Which, y'know, they overthrew recently, just before it could reach its 50 year mark. And in doing so, Alito mentioned that Lawrence and Griswold were both potential future targets.

Griswold v Connecticut is the 1965 case giving married people the right to access to birth control. They want to overturn that, too.

The conservative & alt-right movements are thrilled to see so much infighting among leftists and the queer communities; it'll make it so much easier for them to drive in the wedges they'll use to go after all of us.

I think a fundamental aspect (though not the only one) of why a lot of twitter people failed in their attempt to come to tumblr is that plenty of them are in the “sassy banter” part of the tech tree, where they think that hitting someone with a sitcom zinger is the biggest own possible, but tumblr is on the “kill yourself” part of the tree, which is the hard counter to that.

No more "wait 10 seconds until you can skip the video, wait 10 seconds until you can skip the fake playable ad, wait 5 seconds until you can close the 'download now' overlay, puts up a half-screen in-app appstore pop-up (which at least you can close immediately)." This should literally be illegal to do.

Edit: this is blowing up so I just wanted to add (haha ad) that this was my "reasonable request" I also think there should be way more and way stricter laws around all advertising in general. I think most advertising as we know it today should be abolished.

A thing that bothers me about wizard schools in popular media – outside of the magic-grade-school stuff, anyway – is that they're typically depicted as being basically magic universities, but their actual curricula and pedagogical approaches look much more like those of a technical institution. Like, buddy, that's not a wizard university, that's a wizard trade school. You can't just slap university student culture on top of trade school pedagogy. It doesn't work like that – the one emerges from the other!

"Well ACTUALLY wizards are" wizards are made up. They can be analogous to whatever real-world class or vocation the author wants. Wizard-school-as-university and wizard-school-as-technical-institute are both perfectly fine; what I am grumping about is wizard-school media that doesn't seem to have a clear picture of how different sorts of educational institutions actually operate.

Okay but now I really want to know what a Wizard technician would look like. Would he wear magical overalls with all kinds of reagents and magic tools sticking out of his numerous pockets?

With this chalk, on the astral that looks like one thick line with fuzzy edges. They can’t tell exactly what you want, and they’re picky lil’ critters so they just won’t do anything in response.”

“Really? Oh. I always thought the expensive chalk was just fancy to be fancy.”

“Making pure chalk is difficult, you need a dedicated production line or dust gets in the finished product. To be honest, you don’t need to bother with it for most things, but 5th and up, 5th level and up, it actually is necessary. Anything with lines within about two millimeters of each other.”

“So I need to start over?”

“Unfortunately yes. You’ll have to erase all this, but with some good chalk it should work just fine. Next new moon your summons should go off without a hitch.”

“Dang. At least it’s not my sigils, I was worried it was my sigils.”

“Nah Your sigils look good. Even and balanced. You know what you’re doing, it’s just an equipment problem.”

Yo. Many of you need to take an entire stadium of seats. Like a football arena in Texas number.

I coined neurodivergent before tumblr was even a thing, like a decade or more ago, because people were using ‘neurodiverse’ and ‘neurodiversity’ to just mean autistic, & possibly LDs. But there’s more, like way more, ways a person can have a different yet fucking perfect dammit brain.

Neurodivergent refers to neurologically divergent from typical. That’s ALL.

I am multiply neurodivergent: I’m Autistic, epileptic, have PTSD, have  cluster headaches, have a chiari malformation.

Neurodivergent just means a brain that diverges.

Autistic people. ADHD people. People with learning disabilities. Epileptic people. People with mental illnesses. People with MS or Parkinsons or apraxia or cerebral palsy or dyspraxia or no specific diagnosis but wonky lateralization or something. 

That is all it means. It is not another damn tool of exclusion. It is specifically a tool of inclusion. If you don’t want to be associated with Those People, then YOU are the one who needs another word. Neurodivergent is for all of us.
