jupiter ~ 18 ~ he/void ~ a blog for all things space related

hi everyone!Ā

my name is jupiter, and this is my blog for all things space!Ā

a little about me:Ā

my pronouns are he/voidĀ

i’m autistic and space is my biggest special interest!Ā

i love anything related to space, but i have a passion for the moons in our solar system (particularly the galilean moons)Ā

i’m willing to (scratch that, i’d LOVE to) explain anything space related! just send in an ask and i’ll do my best to break it down :)

my favorite object in the universe is europaĀ

i’m hoping to study astronomy and become a planetary scientist or astrophysicist :)Ā

i am a teenager, so please don’t be creepy (i won’t hesitate to block anyone who makes me uncomfortable)Ā

Anonymous asked:

Have you checked out the website where you can see what the Hubble telescope saw on your birthday?? It’s super cool!

(Also can my anon thing be šŸ„? I’m probably gonna be sending more asks cuz you seem noice lol)

anon i’m so sorry- this was sent months ago and i didn’t see it 😭

i have seen that site! my birthday is april first (yes really), so on my birthday, hubble actually saw the pillars of creation, which is super cool, as the eagle nebula is one of my favorites!

and yes, of course you can be šŸ„ anon :) again, sorry for missing this ask T-T

Anonymous asked:

What type of camera and equipment do you use to take such clear up close photos of the moon? They are so GORGEOUS!!

thank you so much!!!

and i actually just use my phone and hold it up to the eyepiece of my telescope haha.

i’ve been able to get decent pictures because 1) i’ve got a pretty good telescope (it’s a celestron nexstar 4SE, i’ve got a few posts on this blog about telescopes if you’re interested, they should be under the ā€œtelescopesā€ tag) and 2) i’ve learned how to angle my phone and how to edit the exposure and stuff to best capture the moon.

for reference, this was one of the first photos i ever took of the moon versus one of my most recent. i used the same stuff for each of these, i’ve just gotten a lot better at taking and editing the photos.

posting this here because i’ve got more followers, but does anyone know any poems or songs about animal cruelty, human superiority, climate change, etc?

im doing a paper on why humans believe we’re superior to other animals and the consequences this has, and one of my sources needs to be from either a poem or a song. if anyone has any recommendations they’d be GREATLY appreciated!!

i have blocked probably 15 blank blogs following me in the hour since i woke up. if you’re new to tumblr and want to follow me, change your pfp and add a title to your blog, please. otherwise i will block you under the assumption that you’re a bot.

Mmmm theres a new wave of bots so sorry but this time i will not trust new followers w empty blogs and default icons. Or the obvious normie instagram hot woman stuff. Last time there was a lot of discussions about lurkers being wrongfully blocked and thats valid. But like when people get +20 new follows from empty blogs thats not normal behaviour at all. So if you dont want artists to block you, do SOMETHINF w your blog to indicate it has signs of life. PLEASE.

'people who celebrate fictional character birthdays are annoying' FUCK that post and happy birthday JUICE from 17776 (and congratulations on real life Jupiter ICy moons Explorer for the launch!)

the european space agency (ESA) is launching its newest probe tomorrow!

the JUpiter ICy moons Explorer (JUICE) mission is a space probe designed to make detailed observations of jupiter, as well as its three largest, icy moons: europa, ganymede, and callisto (the other galilean moon, io, isn’t included as it isn’t an ice world, and has zero potential for life).

JUICE will be searching for signs of habitability on these moons, as well as gaining more information on the largest planet in our solar system.

be sure to tune into ESAs youtube channel to watch the launch live at 1pm BST!

the launch was delayed due to risk of lightning. it has been rescheduled for tomorrow at the same time :)

unfortunately, the launch has been delayed due to risk of lightning. i’ll reblog with the new launch time in a few hours, i’m going back to sleep haha

Hey! I tried Stellaruim again and changed my opinion. lol I might like it better then Night Sky. It has SO much content and tools and educational materials. Do you use binoculars or a telescope or anything?

yeah stellarium is awesome! like you said, there's so much available, it's really cool to play with :)

and yeah! i do have a telescope! i've got a Celestron NexStar 4SE that i got secondhand a few years ago, and it works really well :) i've got a few posts somewhere on this blog going into more detail about telescopes, let me see if i can find them real quick :)

here's one, and here's another :)

webb had done it yet again - this time, recreating the iconic Hubble Ultra Deep Field image :)

above, on the left, is the new James Webb image, with the Hubble image on the right.

what’s truly incredible about this image was how long it took. for Hubble, gathering that much light took 11 days of nonstop exposure, whereas with webb, getting the same depth took less than 24 hours - it shows how truly powerful JWST is.

more information can be found here.

Do you have the ā€œNight Skyā€ app? There are so many out there but I like this one the most. So cool to hang out in my backyard and see the changes from day to day and such. I love astronomy too. I even bought a locket necklace with small pieces of the Campo del Cielo meteorite (with certificate of authenticity) in it. So cool. I love having pieces of this meteorite found in Argentina in 1576. But it could be millions of age before it crashed. Anyway, it’s cool to see someone who likes astro too.

i do have that app! i’ve got like, four different star tracking apps on my phone haha. my two favorites, however, would have to be skyview lite and stellarium. stellarium is available on mobile and computer, and is really cool, since you can look at what the sky looks like from different locations and times, and there’s a bunch of different information if you click on a star or planet- i’d definitely recommend it :)

that locket sounds awesome!! i learned about the campo del cielo meteorite once, but i don’t remember where or when haha (it might’ve been in a spanish class, actually… i’m not sure.)

and yeah :) if you ever have any questions or stuff about space, i’m your guy :) i’m extremely autistic about space :]

The Saturn Lyman-Alpha Bulge, an emission from excess hydrogen

Discovery: Saturn's rings are heating its upper atmosphere. The phenomenon has never before been seen in the solar system. The evidence comes from an excess of ultraviolet radiation, seen as a spectral line of hot hydrogen in its atmosphere. more at NASA

fun little space/physics fact for you all :)

did you know that astronauts in the international space station don’t actually experience zero gravity? they actually experience around 89% of the gravity we do on earth! the only reason they experience weightlessness is because they’re in perpetual freefall around the earth
