Going to just add some more stuff cause I do think about spinos so fucking often and I truly do think they encapsulate so much of (at least in relation to myself) what it feels like to grow into your own bones as a trans/non-binary person.
The spino is one of paleontology’s greatest enigmas in that our depiction and understanding of it have changes so frequently since it’s discovery. It’s bones are all we have to try and learn about them, to know how they lived- and even then, most of the specimens we do have are super fragmentary.
To change so much yet still… the bones remain the same. The concept changes, but the creature will only ever be itself, yet what that is is open ended.
They mean sm to me because they change, but also, they stay the same. They just are what they are and I think that’s beautiful.
