Follow your dreams! [A Giveaway!]
I love gaming. Card games, board games, dice games, gambling games… but my first love was the video game. I remember being a wee tater tot playing Ecco the Dolphin on my mom’s Sega Genesis, and just about crying in joy when my Grandma bought me a Super Nintendo for Christmas.
When I was going through my worst bouts of bullying, when I had absolutely no friends, video games were there for me. I could always turn to Mario “Jumpman” Mario and Donkey Kong to console me. As I became a teenager I finally found friends – friends that gamed, even. We could debate what the best FF series was (I personally stand by FFXII as my all time favourite) and laugh as we watched each other play KHs. In my adulthood I found myself drawn to the exploratory nature of the Fallout series (Dat Fallout 4 hype am I right?) and though I never pursued it, a part of me always wanted to make games. So, I bought RPG Maker VX Deluxe when it was on discount during the Steam Summer Sale and have been fiddling around with it ever since.
What does this have to do with a giveaway? I happen to have an extra Steam code for RPG Maker VX Deluxe, and I want it to go to good use. I know it can be an expensive piece of software if it’s not on sale, and not everyone has the money to treat themselves to it. I want to help someone create. I want someone to follow their dream of game making. Most of all I want people to have fun making something awesome.
What are the rules?
- While not necessary, it would be nice if you were following me. I’m but a small blog as of right now, and could use the support of more followers. I like to think my content, while small in size right now, is at least quality.
- Liking and reblogging the page will each count as an entry! Feel free to reblog as much as you like.
- The drawing will take place on Oct. 31 – I thought you all might like a Halloween present! Trick or Treat to you!
- Keep Creating, and Don’t Forget To Be Awesome!

Do the thing. I believe in you.
Motivation. What a thorn in our collective sides, right? You pick something to do and for whatever reason… you don’t do. You do the opposite of do, you don’t and then you get absolutely nowhere and you just blankly stare at the thing and nothing changed because you still haven’t gotten up, you still haven’t started, and eventually it all snowballs.
So you ignore it. You give up. You think about it from time to time, shaking your head in disgust at yourself because you couldn’t do something as simple as start the thing you wanted to do in the first place – if you would have started it when you originally wanted to, you’d have been done with it by now! The snowball keeps rolling. The frustration and anxiety gets worse. How can you even think about starting it now, because all of a sudden it’s not so simple. You’ve made a metaphorical mountain out of a metaphorical molehill (unless you really are dealing with a molehill, in which case I am sorry for your yard).
Breathe, friend.
I have been down this terrible path before, and I’m sure I’ll go down it again. In fact, I’m facing similar thoughts when it came to making this blog. I really wanted to create a blog where I could share my knowledge, and learn more from those around me and generally have a safe space for everyone on their life journey of becoming a better person. It took forever for me to just stop thinking and start doing. I’m still trying to just keep doing. Let me try to help you do the same: Do.
So you want to do a thing.
Well that’s the first step. Saying “Hey, I want to organize my room” or “I think it’s time for me to clean the kitchen” is a great way to start. Recognize what it is you want to accomplish in your end game.
However, don’t get overzealous. “I want to organize my room” can become a daunting task if you try to do it all at once. A good tip is to make it a project – trying to finish it all in one go is a good way to get burnt out before you even start! Instead make a list and check it off as you go.
Example:
- Make the bed
- Clear off bookshelves
- File away desk papers
- Dust the corners
- Fold the laundry
- Vacuum the floor
A list like this seems a lot more manageable mentally than just saying “Organize the room” and as you check things off you’ll feel accomplished, which helps your motivation to continue on your project.
Be proud of any bit you get done. Managed to clean off one of your shelves? Good job, you! You’re that much closer to finishing that task! Which means you’re practically almost done with your project! It can be really motivating to feel like you’re getting closer to your end goal.
Sometimes we all need a little push in the right direction and maybe even a little company. Invite a friend over and tell them what your goal is. They can help by giving you a hand and maybe assist by directing you where to go. Surrounding ourselves with people who have a good directional skill can help lead the effort.
Putting on entertainment as background noise can also help. I personally like to listen to one of the Crash Course series (Right now I’m on Anatomy and Physiology) or to Mental Floss videos while I work because it gives my brain something other than the ever increasing list of to-dos I face to think about. It’s hard to stress about stuff I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get done when I’m too busy listening to videos and then… what do you know, I’ve completed half my to do list without freaking out about how much I had to do!
It can can be hard to just motivate yourself to get out of bed, let alone take on any other sort of project aside from the act of being alive. Just know that you deserve a gold star for waking up, double gold stars for getting out of bed and triple gold stars for even glancing out the window. Some days are better than others, but no matter what it is you want to accomplish… you can do it. I know you can.

I’m gonna talk nerdy to you guys for a minute.
I’m a new manager at this place called Illusive Comics and Games. It’s an amazing place in Santa Clara, CA. How is it amazing? Other than the great selection of comics and board/card/dice/RPG games it is also:
- Owned and operated by a woman. A WOMAN. Comics and Games stores are a primarily male dominated career path, but this chick holds her own in the arena, kicking ass and taking names. She is also the sweetest gal I’ve ever had the honor to meet.
- A safe space. We welcome people of all color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender orientation, etc. So many people of different backgrounds all come together here in the spirit of love and friendship and geekdom.
- A place where the employees aren’t just workers. They’re friends and family. I’ve only worked there for two days so far and I’ve already been taken in and been treated with so much respect and love. We plan karaoke nights and dinners and we really care for each other.
- A home away from home. We have so many people drive out from around the bay area just to come to our shop for gaming events and to buy our comics, some people even have us ship comics out to them after they leave the area just to keep being patrons of our establishment. People love us, and we love them. We strive to learn all of our customer’s names and make them feel welcome.
The problem? We’re so popular, there’s no space! Every gaming event is so packed full of people that we need more space to expand! Luckily a place across the street is opening up, and we’re going to take control of it. The new store is going to be called Isle of Gamers (I love gamers. Get it?), and that’s where I will be managing once it’s opened up. But we don’t want to just open up a shop, we really want it to shine, and for that we’re reaching out for help.
We’re running a Kickstarter to try and raise the funds to get new furnishing to make it more comfortable for everyone! Every dollar counts, so even if that’s all you can spare, we’re still super thankful! And even if you can’t donate yourself, if you could reblog this, that would be great. I really want to pass the word along.
I love this place. Before I was hired, I’ve been shopping/gaming here for the past 2 years or so, and it’s the only place I’ve ever really felt the most comfortable. I don’t just want it to succeed as a worker, but I want it to succeed as a patron.
Sorry for the wall of text, guys. Thanks for reading. <3

Extensive research has concluded that this indeed, is the greatest line in animated film history.

"I get worried about stuff too! Just go DO it! That’s what I do!"
"I kept telling you to get help/diagnosed but now that you have been I don’t believe you."
