The extra scenes with faramir all add so much! To the story as a whole and to the relationships between boromir and faramir and denethor and even though we all hate denethor they make him less 1 note idiot incompetance begets evil guy into a more complicated asshole. And also to see faramir as the 'ordinary' man with potential for good, hes Likable, unlike any other man aside from Aragorn. Hes Aragorn without a destiny or divine blood. Hes Eowyn but male and still trapped in a cage of (low) expectations. Also he is Nice to the hobbits. He is not only thinking of his place and his ambition and his kingdom he sees the bigger picture and sees that preserving goodness is his and everyones task. Hes Samwise Gamgee raised in a city of stone.
when sexism is used against one woman, it is used against all women. the argument that “some women deserve it” really means “men in power should get to decide which women are well behaved enough to be considered human”
“There’s no magic formula - not for ourselves, and not for the people around us. We won’t make ourselves more creative and productive by copying other people’s habits, even the habits of geniuses; we must know our own nature, and what habits serve us best.”
"You go ahead and eat mr frodo. Ive rationed it. There should be enough"
"enough for what?"
"The journey home"
Sam is not having none of this death ideation today or any day. Eat your lembas bread babe the only way out is through. The dark forces of middle earth work hard but gardeners work harder.
cottagecore isn’t neo-manifest destiny it’s a few teenagers wanting to live in a moomin cartoon
The way feodo ends the first movie with "im glad youre with me sam" and the second with "frodo wouldnt have gotten very far without sam"!!!
Theoden died with his son, thats why he doesnt care about aragorn dying and why they go to helms deep. Rohan is lost and we dont hear the "for death" war cry for ages yet but its been playing in his head for years.
Yes eowyn loves aragorn but to reduce the "they follow you because they would not be parted from you. Because they love you" to romantic feelings does her a disservice as a warrior, and as royalty.
Heres a man refusing his cause every step of the way where she has been denied and denied and denied and he would deny her too!
Yes there is need for valour without renown but he would deny her valour of protecting those she loves under any circumstances!
When theoden says "leave the dead" and Legolas LOOKS at him, i dont think Theoden realises what leaving Aragorn for dead means. Like yes he remembers war and knows mourning must wait, hes practical and has people depending on him. But he does not realise that the last chance for a king of Gondor to retake the throne, Mans last hope for redemption and unity also took a tumble of that cliff. It could be because he thinks the time for men is over and that they can't be redeemed, or it could be that he thinks it lives in every man and aragorn isnt special. Which makes sense for someone from Rohan i think.
Legolas why didnt your elf eyes see this warg attack??? When you could clearly see Hama right before his face got eaten!?!?
I didnt get to play enough of those big group "war games" as a kid because last night i dreamt i was responsible for a scout camp where one faciliator was the lead hunter, a teacher/adult with duty of care and i were both wolves who had a 1 minute head start before everyone started chasing us but the rest of the teachers decided the kids should all sit and face one way to watch a movie instead of running amok so i circled back behind them and slowly "killed" 50 of them by picking those on the edges with no one to notice when they died (laying on the ground not speaking) while they were all just watching shrek.
leg hair should be long and unkempt like overgrown foliage. that's just my opinion though
