Small Tips For ClipStudio

I have some hours before work so I’ll use them to actually detail why I’ve found CSPaint to be so efficient for bastard-aligned painters who like to take shortcuts.

This will seem familiar to most of you guys, but this functions a little bit different from Photoshop. It turns everything you draw on the layer into editable curves, but retains the aliased smoothness of an ordinary raster layer. Practically a cheat to access the whole suite of amazing tools CS offers for lineart. Such as:

The vector eraser is The Best™. You can be as messy as possible and this tool erases the excess. One pen-flick and it’s done. Much faster than cleaning it up by hand. You can also tweak the settings of this brush to encapsulate more/less lines as you erase but that’s getting a little more involved. Anyway, last thing:

Maybe the only thing better than the vector eraser. There are multiple settings, but these three are the most handy. You can smooth wiggly edges, connect broken strokes, and tweak the width/weight to exactly how you want it. This also has a ton of settings you can play around with. It’s great!

There’s a lot more tools you can use, but you get the point! It’s a really good drawing program. I recommend it!

oh yeah, in celebration of 2019, i feel like it is important to note that 2019 is the last year that chara falling into the underground can happen….

you know what that means yall, gotta go dive into a hole in a mountain this year or never

Tips for fight scenes

  • If you get punched in the nose your eyes will water, a lot, even if it didn’t really hurt
  • Your body follows your head, your head gets pushed one way and your body will want to go that way
  • Getting hit in the stomach isn’t good, it hurts, getting hit in the diaphragm is worse. Causes your lungs to kinda spasm and make it hard to breathe (diaphragm is between stomach and chest)
  • When fighting a larger person they will have an easier time forcing you back
  • The jaw is the knockout button. Hit it hard enough and down for the count
  • Back of the head is very vulnerable, can cause serious damage if hit there
  • Kidney punches. They hurt. A lot.
  • People with experience will try to be where they are comfortable. A wrestler will try to get their opponent on the ground, a boxer will stay on their feet, etc.
  • Easiest counter to a kick is to get closer to whoever is throwing it, then they won’t have enough room for it to be effective
  • If you want realism, avoid fancy, flashy moves. They’re less practical and easier to counter.

I will definitely be using these tips in the future. I don’t write fight scenes very often, but given that I’ve never been in an actual fight of any sort … yeah, definitely need to know this stuff for those scenes. Very helpful!

But remember: if you’re too close to kick, you’re in perfect range to knee.

also, how do you go about drawing two characters interacting? like maybe just standing next to each other or walking next to each other in a natural way because i never know what to do with the rest of their bodies after i draw their head and neck :,) i know this isn’t that well explained and i truly understand if it isn’t something doable since i know ur super busy and have more important things to do but thank u so so much in advance

do you have any tips on drawings noses? particularly non-white noses?? all the tutorials are european noses and i just want to learn how to draw my own nose!!

oh i feel you. the nice thing about being a poc is that you can always study yourself in the mirror to learn how to draw yourself better! but anyways:

if you’re wondering which kinds of noses are frequent for which race, i like to use this guide. I can’t verify how accurate it is, but it’s pretty damn comprehensive for racial traits around the world. I also really like this guide for learning how to draw a variety of East Asian noses (it’s not all flat!). Here’s an equivalent guide that includes drawing African noses. And there’s always Google images for more specific requirements.

+ 3D models are really helpful when drawing noses: x x x

+ here are some general nose tutorials by better artists lol: x x
