Leather masks, chainmail, jewelry, costumes, and more! Etsy Shop Twitter Carrd

Here’s a few scale bracelets made as take-home orders from ANE, back in January. The bi pride flag one with the stripes in the long direction was a bit of fun. The light blue on on the one with lots of colors was a color I got specifically to be able to do the trans flag better, but someone at the con really liked it as its own color.

Still alive!

Just popping in with an update. I had a bad patch of burnout after vending at ANE (though the con itself went great), and I put crafting on the back burner for a couple months. Combination of a lot of life stuff needing my attention, and just not finding crafting enjoyable for a while. I’ve still been shipping out Etsy orders, and I’ve been working on a big commission when I’m able, but I’ve been taking a break from posting and promoting. I needed to reduce my workload.

I’ll be back sometime in the next couple months, but not sure when exactly. I’ve still got a couple life things left to work through. I have been doing a bit more crafting lately, and am glad to be enjoying it again. I’m looking forward to easing back in to making new stuff, and being able to share it again!

I will say, I have still been happily looking at art and shitposts here on the daily. I’m glad my period of burnout lined up with Twitter lighting itself on fire, because it means I just got to log out and not even look at it for a few months. Depending on how that house fire turns out I may need to spin up more social medias when I do come back, and I’m not looking forward to that. But it’s been nice not having to suffer through it.

This carousel horse has a bit of an attitude.

This was a commission for a friend. The base pattern for the mask is from Dieselpunk.Ro. I made some small tweaks on the mask itself, but the big change was designing the big floppy mane. I love how it hangs over the face like some sort of pastel pink scene kid. The sawtooth part of the mane is a reference to the haircuts that Norwegian Fjord Horses often get. The construction of the mane was a riff on how @ramshacklegear did the mane on his chess piece pony hood, so check that out here and here.

This pony also has a spicy side, second post incoming.

Chainmail price adjustment incoming

I just ordered like a year's worth of chainmail supplies and woof, some of the prices went up a bunch in the last year. On top of that, I'm finally caving and switching to more expensive saw-cut rings for a lot of products. (I got a whole rant on that, I actually used to prefer the machine-cut rings, but I think the quality slipped in recent years, and now it takes a lot more care and time to close rings so they're not scratchy, but before that quality change they shit I gotta stop the rant now.)

Upshot is, I'll need to adjust a bunch of my prices soon, so order now to get stuff at old pricing.

Good news is I stocked a good set of colors in a new ring size, so I'll have some fun new stuff coming down in the next few weeks.

Someone ordered 4 dozen of my leather fortune cookies. It used up my whole scrap pile! I like how you can see the range of shades the leather can be, depending on what hide it’s cut from.

I didn't hear back from this client, but usually orders this large are for wedding party favors. If you'd like a pile for your own mysterious reasons, you can find them on my Etsy here, or single ones here.

Decided to subtly improve this codpiece design. I decided it was a bit too flat, and needed to curve to hug the hips better, and it needed a bit bigger of a bulge for obvious reasons. Updated version first, previous iteration second.

I’d originally designed this one physically, though. I’d traced the pattern geometry into CAD to laser cut, but it turns out that (as best I can tell) reconstructing a 3D form from its flattened geometry is an unsolved problem. So what I thought would be a quick edit turned into rebuilding it from the ground up.

I’m pretty happy with the update, but I think I got only about halfway to where I wanted it. Gotta pump the curvature up a bit more again still. Should be faster to make the tweaks next time though.

4 oz vegetable-tanned leather, designed by me, cut with a laser, then dyed gold and assembled by hand.

Raven skull mask!

I’m slowly going through a bunch of old mask designs and adding this little bend and rivet at the bridge of the nose. It helps pull the snout (beak in this case) upwards to point out from the face more cleanly. It’s a small but marked improvement on the shape of the masks. But it does mean I need to do a lot more photo shoots again.

Wolf mask!

This is an older design, but I recently updated it (added that rivet at the bridge of the nose) to improve the shape of the snout. After trying it on a couple designs, I think I’m gonna be going through and making that same tweak on a lot of my old mask designs.

My Lucario outfit!

We need to have Halloween every 3 months so I can wear shit around town more often.

I designed this outfit to be clearly furry but distinctly not a fursuit. It's a genre of costume that I want to see more of.

Component parts are: the pup hood style mask, furry vest, harness with the chest spike, arm warmers with the hand spikes, spiked arm bands, Thai fisherman pants for extra baggy, and tail. I don't do a lot of sewing, and I don't plan to aim for selling sewn crafts, but it's fun to pick up new skills.

Golden Curse mask.

I made this mask I think about 2 years ago (here), but was unhappy with the eyes, so I opened them up and reshaped them recently. The mask was sculpted directly onto a form (testing out that process, which is different than my typical), which let me get more intense curvature and shaping into the leather than normal. I made it out of some remnant pieces of leather with some funky shapes and textures, and joined them together on the irregular seam line that came out of it.

I enjoyed experimenting with this technique, and there’s some really cool stuff that can be made with it, but honestly I can’t really pursue it. Exploring it further would require sculpting a bunch of solid formworks to shape the masks onto, and I don’t have space in my workshop/bedroom for that. But there may be occasional projects where I use the technique.

This one-of-a-kind horror is still available on my Etsy!
