if not for yourself, do it for Creamy 😤🩷
not "I hate it here" as in "I want to leave" but "I hate it here" as in "this is a list of the 50 counties in the whole united states with the lowest life expectancy and Kentucky is 14 of them"
this was jumping off from recent kentuckyposting, but if you're american this list should radicalize you. It's just a parade of the evils of this nation
The US county with the lowest average life expectancy (as of 2014) is Oglala Lakota County, South Dakota. It is a Native American reservation with a 92.9% Native American population. The average life expectancy there is 66.81 years.
If it were a country, it would rank below 150th in worldwide average life expectancy.
The second county on the list is Union County, Florida, at 67.57 years. It has a high prison population—one-third of the county's population is incarcerated.
The list is dominated from there on by Native American reservations, counties in Mississippi with a 70%+ Black population, and Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia coal country.

Hi! I’d like to clarify something about the accreditation of this comic.
It’s by Matthew Inman, and you can find the original comic at his blog, “The Oatmeal”, and I’m posting it below as well.

Bit of tmi coming through
I’ve been on T for like six months now and while I don’t have the mustache of my dreams and my shoulder acne looks like something from a horror movie, I’ve been having some mad bottom growth. It hasn’t been hurting much thus far but it’s a little sore today and honestly I’m so here for it.
Fingers crossed either my stupid squeaky voice is next or at least a little fuzz. 🤞
Always feel bad when I see someone say something like "I don't have a disability but I have [something that is a disability but society doesn't treat like one]"
Migraines. Food allergies. GERD. Vision problems. Skin problems. For people that menstruate, conditions that cause irregular and painful cycles. Those are all disabling. Anything that impairs you from functioning or completing a basic life task without accommodation is a disability. Anything that makes you spend days in bed during a flare up is a disability! Not everyone experiences your symptoms and you're not being weak or whiny.
Mental illnesses that people treat as "mainstream" these days like anxiety, depression, or ADHD are still disabilities. Overcoming a massive struggle just to get out of bed, slow down your thoughts, or focus on what you need/want to do is disabling. Starting the day with less mental energy than most people is disabling.
For the migraine people: yes, everyone gets headaches, but no not everyone gets migraines. It's a condition that can be inherited in which our nerves are literally wired differently and more sensitive than someone who doesn't get migraines.
For the food allergy and digestive disorder people: if you eat something your body can't tolerate, you become sick. Doesn't matter if it's a trip to the ER or skin irritation for a few hours, that's a negative response in your body. Going hungry at social events because you can't eat anything, that's not something you just have to grin and bear. Prohibitively expensive or hard-to-find accessible food. Most people have the privilege of not worrying about eating.
For people with abnormal menstrual cycles: you don't have to suck it up because "lots of people get periods, no one likes them, but they all deal with it." Majority of people who get periods don't spend days in bed with debilitating pain or nausea. Your heightened struggle is real. Going months between cycles can increase your risk of health conditions down the line, and it's good to speak to a gynecologist if you have access to one.
If you are feeling discomfort on a regular basis in any part of your body, or if you usually feel unwell after eating, that isn't normal and you deserve medical attention and support
not for nothing but "chastity until marriage" and "lifelong strict monogamy" is every bit as much kink as piss or free use or knotting is. we just don't call it that because those weirdly specific and highly fetishized sexual practices are institutionalized and considered normative.
what are traditional catholic values if not just an overly elaborate and widely accepted version of a breeding kink
Just so we're all on the same page with the writer's strike.
If during the strike, it's announced about AI generated shows. We are not watching them. Not even out of curiosity. Let them fail every AI generated show they try make.
The human voice can not be replaced by AI. Don't let them try.
I sat with a crying second grader today. (The age range is outside my wheelhouse but I was the most convenient adult.) He was crying, the other adults said, because his brother took a phone he was playing on. “Phone addicted,” everybody said. “If he would get up and play games with the other kids he wouldn’t be crying.”
He told me everyone lets his brother take things from him because his brother is younger, and doesn’t know better. He told me he doesn’t want to play because he’s tired, he has too many extracurriculars this summer and can’t get good sleep because “everyone in my camper is so loud when I’m trying to sleep.” He’s exhausted and only eight. His mom’s an acquaintance and told me she and the kid’s father are going through a separation — mom and four kids left the house to stay in a camper.
But people will seriously not listen to kids crying over seemingly minor things because on the surface it looks like a tantrum. If kids are given the space to articulate themselves they often will.
I’ve found that if a child is capable of having a conversation (that is, old enough to speak and express themselves, not injured or upset so badly that they literally cannot stop crying, and not behaving violently), then 90% of the time their reason for being upset is legitimate, or at least understandable.
Please remember that this also applies to teenagers and preteens, they might be acting like a knowitall who doesn’t give a shit, or a first class jerk, but chances are fair they feel like shit for one reason or another and adults just chalk it up to teenage angst instead
Fata Morgana
a superior mirage caused by warm air resting on patches of colder air in an atmospheric duct that acts like a refracting lens. Objects on the horizon could appear to be mirrored, distorted, or float. This form of mirage could be the reason for the Flying Dutchman Legend.

Being a kid was so fucking funny we’d just go around lying to each other’s faces constantly to impress each other one of my classmates told me he was the first person to visit the sun and when I asked him what it was like to prove he was lying he said he didn’t remember because they sent him there when he was just a baby and to this day the mental image of NASA launching an unsupervised baby into the sun still makes me crack up
i think about this video a lot
Wtf is going on
Hey y’all film crew member here. For those of you asking, they’re running like that to stay out of the shot. For us crew we TRY OUR HARDEST TO NOT GET FILMED. IT’S IMPORTANT. It’s like playing the floor is lava but with a side of “you’re fired” if you lose too many times. We’ll do anythING to not be seen. Duck around corners, dive under tables, jump in the bushes, assume fetal position on the floor, climb trees, get in the robot, hide in the trojan horse, become a vampire, you fuckin name it. My fav game while watching a movie is “guess where the crew is hiding in this shot” it’s great fun you should try it. The only problem in this particular shot is there is nowhere to hide except behind the camera which IS MOVING REALLY FAST. Why they didn’t just leave the room I have no idea. it could be any number of reasons. Time, lack of proper equipment, need to supervise/direct, etc. The real question is how the hell did Gaga not fucking lose it seeing a herd of film nerds scamper desperately in circles behind the camera
Love all the film crew people in the notes sharing their dumb hiding locations
“Because people have begun to lose their hopes and forget their dreams. So, the Nothing grows stronger.”
The Neverending Story (1984)
This is exactly why speculative fiction is important
This is why taking a break for downtime is important
This is why being able to daydream and wander, is important
Without hope and dreams, we can’t even consider that a better world is possible
And that is exactly the point of overworking and underpaying us.
Michael Ende, who wrote The Neverending Story, also wrote Momo, where the villains are little grey men who convince you to “save time” by cutting out everything fun and meaningful in your life. But you never get the saved time back, the little men smoke it.
