No , it's her again

@arienncia

So Hi I'm Arienna aka LATB . Adult and Perma-broke artist from Poland . She/Her.

Well, you know, some bathroom graffiti offers insight.

Red marker handwriting on a bathroom wall. Text reads:

“Boss made a dollar Granddad made a dime But that was a poem From a simpler time.

Boss made a thousand Gave pa a cent But that penny paid the mortgage Or at least it paid the rent

Now Boss makes a million And gives us jack Smugly blames the workers For the labor that he lacks.”

Plagiarism Alert: Author Romilly King Plagiarized Destiel Fanfic

eHey ya'll - reposting this on Tumblr, on behalf of a the OP on Twitter, who gave me permission. The original thread is here: https://twitter.com/KokomRoily/status/1422965705167806471

(if you have trouble reading the side-by-sides check Twitter)

FROM TWITTER (I am NOT the "I" in these! But I know who is, they're a friend, and this evidence looks pretty iron-clad to me)

>I'm what you'd call a voracious reader. I read all the time, everywhere. I read non-fiction, fiction, & fanfiction. I don't discriminate great stories. What I do despise is plagiarism. Color me surprised when I bought "Paid to Kneel" by Romilly King. It seemed so familiar.

>By chapter 2, I realised I could mouth along with the lines, because this is almost verbatim "You can hurt me, it's okay, baby" by Blue_Jack.

>All of these screenshots are of "Paid to Kneel" (with yellow highlights of plagiarised text) next to "If you hurt me, that's okay, baby" by Blue_Jack on Ao3.

(unforth's note: ...I've hit Tumblr's image limit, but you get the idea. There are even more images on Twitter, but even just these ten prove the point. Here's the rest of OP's commentary from the thread)

>I contacted Blue Jack to see if they're Romilly. They're not. They filed a plagiarisation claim with Amazon, who pulled the book. The audio book still remains, for the moment.

>Romilly has published a book approximately once a month during 2020 and into 2021. It's entirely possible she's been writing ahead of time and is only publishing now. It's also entirely possible she's plagiarised more fic.

>The plagiarisation isn't even remotely subtle.

>This was a work put out into the world to be enjoyed for free. Blue_Jack spent *hours and hours* writing and editing this *for free*, for people to enjoy *for free*, and someone tried profiting from it. That's not okay.

>If this fanfiction has been plagiarised so thoroughly, how can I trust other books by Romilly aren't also plagiarised fic? If this fanfiction has been plagiarised so thoroughly, how can I trust other books by Romilly aren't also plagiarised fic?

>I suggest you go read the fanfic, if you like kinky Destiel. It's *most* excellent. https://archiveofourown.org/works/5200685

And a little more from me -

Romilly King has almost 23 books out since early last year up on Amazon. They've got thousands of reviews on Goodreads. Given how often they publish, and how flagrantly they plagiarized this one, whatcha want to bet they've stolen wholesale from many different authors in different fandoms? This is major, guys, and totally unacceptable.

Spread this like wild-fire, and let's bring this plagiarist down in flames!

Quick additions:

This info is current as of August 4th, 2021

It looks like another of the books may be @mayalaen 's CONventional Psychopathy. I've DMed her.

Fuck plagiarists.

This feels like the start to a horror movie and I love it

fandom doesn't exist in a vacuum and fanfiction absolutely does impact reality. i'm anti-censorship but it's absurd to pretend that fanfiction has no impact on real life.

See, I can see where you’re confused here. Fanfiction does not, in fact, impact reality. It never has, and unless there is a huge and drastic change in our society and the way it functions, fanfiction will continue to not have any real or noticeable impact on reality. This is due to the fact that society as a whole does not engage with fanfiction and we certainly aren’t looking to it to decide our morality or how we should live our lives.

It is true that fiction can sometimes have an impact on reality. I am not arguing that. But the difference here is that fiction does not mean what you think it means. Fiction that impacts reality is not darkfic or clonecest or whatever else you personally find objectionable because you don’t like it for some reason. The kind of fiction that affects reality is the kind of stuff that is sanctioned by the government or religious organizations. It’s the baseless stereotypes about POC and other marginalized groups that are rude and actively harmful. It’s stuff that most of typically white society believes and then bases their actual real life opinions, actions, and words on.

Someone writing a fic about two clones who do not exist having romantic or sexual feelings for each other does not, has never, and will never impact the world the way you think it will. No one is going to read that and come away with the impression that incest is acceptable in their real life.

And if fanfiction does affect your reality in some way, you should not be engaging with it. It says a hell of a lot more about you than it ever will about the people who created the content in the first place. To me, it says you aren’t able to distinguish between fantasy and reality, and that’s something you need to work on. Not something other people need to worry about for you.

So if you’re still here, I encourage you to live your best and happiest, healthiest life by only worrying about your own self and leaving others alone to live their lives as they see fit. If you can’t do that, learn how to use the block function, and ask yourself if you should even be engaging with fanfiction and fandom at all.

Sex ed teachers : One day ALL of  you are going to have sexual thoughts and urges related to other people lol dont be shy it happens to ALL of us

Teens who grew up and realized that they were asexual all along :

It’s so fucking infuriatingly frustrating that so many of ao3′s userbase is so adamant that ao3 is nonprofit even though it’s owned by a corporation so that shit is a fucking lie in of itself, like. They invest in stocks and constantly people try and push this stupid as fuck idea that there’s no ads!! :)) it’s free!! when it’s been in beta for literal fucking years with one of the worst filtration and blocking systems I’ve seen to date and rampant disgusting nsfw that’s unregulated and crops up to previews for themes anyways so why do we constantly have to have mile long posts defending such a fundamentally bad website from it’s core instead of actually thinking critically for once I fucking hate all of you.

Normally I ignore this stuff, but the insinuation that AO3 is secretly some manipulative scheme to enrich people is just blatantly false.

so many of ao3′s userbase is so adamant that ao3 is nonprofit

Yeah because it is. Look up the Organization for Transformative Works in the IRS database of tax exempt organizations, or GuideStar’s non-profit report listing. EIN 38-3765024, BRIDGE Number 5584273916.

Let’s check out their Form 990 and see how much they paid their staffers:

And it’s a whooping $0.00.

They invest in stocks

Oh heaven forbid. It’s pretty standard for any moderately-sized nonprofit to make conservative investments, so that their reserves do more than simply accrue interest in a bank account. Nobody is taking a vacation to Comoros on that money.

“Once nonprofits get larger, however, some are able to start thinking for the future. Taking money and putting it toward longer-term goals like capital spending or a permanent endowment requires prudent investment. In order to take initial seed money and grow it into a substantial nest egg for use toward those longer-term charitable purposes, nonprofits are allowed to invest in stocks, bonds, funds, and other typical investments.”

it’s owned by a corporation

Yes, AO3 is part of the Organization for Transformative Works, which is indeed incorporated. Again, pretty standard for a charity. Let’s review the OTW’s Certificate of Incorporation:

it’s been in beta for literal fucking years

Finally… who cares? Gmail was in beta for five years, and that was with all the resources of Google behind it and 100 million people already using it.

“the label is just a way for Google to signal users that they’re still tweaking the e-mail service and adding new features”

Same thing for AO3. The reason AO3 is in beta is because it doesn’t have a finalized codebase and it’s too unstable to make an API out of. They could put out a post tomorrow saying ‘we’re out of beta’ and nobody would bat an eye. The website isn’t perfect, but it’s more than functional. And yes, there are a lot of features that can’t be added without overtaxing the existing hardware resources, so why not try a GreasyFork userscript?

tl;dr - I have to write this every year, but AO3 is still not a scam. It is a non-profit. None of the staffers even get paid. It exists solely for a charitable purpose, a purpose which has been acknowledged and validated by the Internal Revenue Service.

I’m sorry but OP’s “one of the worst filtration and blocking systems“ has me in stitches as if the tagging system on Ao3 wasn’t the envy of libraries, school and universities WORLD-WIDE just because OP has to select the tags to exclude THEMSELF oh no, the horror

Also, imagine complaining about the filtering and tagging and blocking system being awful… While on Tumblr.

hey rb and tag a food from your culture that everyone loves but you hate

this post is rly opening my eyes to the fact that some people have no culture…. tagging this with #ketchup and #chicken … how unironically sad

This is about Sci-Hub. yeah we get it.. gatekeep knowledge and protect the interests of capital…

Listen, this is serious.

Do not use the website called Sci-Hub!

It lets people access scientific articles for free. This is dangerous. It helps the free flow of knowledge and reduces the competitive edge of all the people who worked really hard to have been born into a wealth.

Like, it’s literally a website where you can type in the DOI of an article and read it, without ever having to pay the publisher who exploited the author.

So, again, do not, under any circumstance, use Sci-Hub. I mean, can you imagine a world where knowledge is free and easily accessible to everyone? Even, y'know, poor people?

Libgen also has many books online, including textbooks, searchable by name, author, and ISBN. Can you imagine textbook companies not getting their hard-earned income from poor college students? Here is the link just so you make sure that you never accidentally stumble across this horrible, unethical website.

Oh, and while we’re talking about books, if you’ve managed to stay clear from Libgen, definitely don’t go to zlibrary, where you can also find a lot of textbooks, but unfortunately they’re completely free.

nooo don’t use sites that make academic papers accessible to everyone, why would you do such a terrible thing

If you really want to avoid knowledge, don’t use researchgate. It allows the dangerous practice of allowing you to ask the writer directly for a paper behind a paywall, if perchance the communist author hasn’t already posted it themselves. Definitely stay away from academia.edu, they are of a similar ilk.

I love how all of the Batman villains are like “ah he’s not at the manor, it’s defenseless! and then alfred just racks an AK-47 and is like pull up bitch

Batman’s Villains: The butler will be easy prey!

He’s just an old man...he doesn’t have any of the Batman’s gadgets or training or fighting skills!

Alfred: Oh my you’re right

There’s something else of Master Bruce’s I don’t have as well

(Cocks a shotgun) A CODE AGAINST KILLING

Batman’s Villains: Wayne isn’t here to save you old man!

the fact that a cat considers “sit in the same room ignoring each other” to be an acceptable social activity and not an insult is great for me because that’s how i like to socialise
