The 800+ year old jaw, vocal cords and tongue of Saint Anthony are preserved in a beautiful gold reliquary.
Saint Anthony died in 1231, when he was thirty-six years old. He was canonized as the patron saint of lost things.
When his body was exhumed 30 years after his death, it was dust except for his tongue, which “glistened and looked as if it were still alive and moist.” The church claims this is a sign of his sacred gift of preaching.
