I found this really important tiktok about what to do if a Jehovah's Witness or Morman missionary comes to your door:

I spent some time in a Jehovah's Witness church. They're exceptionally skilled at recruiting people into their church. (And I was an ATHEIST)

I left after a couple months, I stayed just long enough to see that they explicitly believe women are inferior to men, and of course, that homosexuality is a sin on par with murder.

The whole missionary door to door thing is NOT how Jehovah's Witnesses recruit. That is how they convince their members that the world is out to get them. One of the first things they teach is that Jesus requires you to try to convert non Christians to the faith. (They say non Christian but mean non JW.)

Then they say, "look how people treat us, just for the crime of wanting to save their soul"

They have long time church members tutor the incoming members to smooth the process over. They're trained to smooth away any doubts you may have about the church.

It is a textbook cult but because it's a Christian cult, nobody will do anything about it.

I just wanted to share, in case no one realizes how messed up JW can be, my family only left after the elders followed around my teenage aunts and other young women to "ensure they weren't sinning" and my great-grandparents STILL stayed!

Clearly, someone doing something for a short period of time does not automatically mean that they can do it indefinitely with no problem.

So why do people assume that if someone can walk for a few seconds, they don’t need a wheelchair?

As a speech therapist/educator, I’m always trying to find simple techniques/explanations to help little kids process and understand their emotions and then teach them healthy ways to express themselves when they’re angry, frustrated, etc. I notice that telling them I deal with the same difficulties, like wanting to yell when I’m angry, goes a long way. Then they know what they feel isn’t weird BUT there are ways to handle their emotions that don’t hurt themselves or others.

This is yet another fake claiming sub currently focusing heavily on those with DID/ OSDD and Tourette's. They claim to not support or tolerate ableism, but this is lip service to keep Reddit from taking them down.

This sub is full of people with REAL disorders being fake claimed and publicly harassed due to the most arbitrary reasons, by people who are completely unqualified and are armchair un-diagnosing with no solid evidence.

This is unacceptable. This sub is bringing harm to dozens if not hundreds of real people with real mental and physical illnesses, and Reddit needs to be held responsible for taking action.

(Anyone supporting this and similar subs, or engaging in this behavior will be blocked).

They're bullying people to the extent that they delete their accounts. 🙃 People with real disabilities are being attacked so relentlessly that they give up their platforms talking about and destigmatizing the illnesses that affect their lives. This sub has got to go.

We went on there the other day after seeing a post saying it was awful and it was an absolute cesspool.  Posting people with mental illness’s videos and discord posts without their knowledge or consent to a cringe subreddit.  Fictives, littles, people with tics, people with many alters, people with alters with typing quirks, teens with mental illnesses making tiktoks, it was all there on the subreddit. People begging for their stuff and their friend’s stuff to be taken down in the notes.  Even targeted harassment towards specific content creators. I recommend signing the petition and maybe reporting the subreddit if you are able to (keep in mind that the content may be triggering to people questioning their mental illness so, if you choose to do so, proceed with caution).  If all you can do is reblog this post, that’s ok too. Stay safe out there.

FBI is really just straight up developing Trojan horse apps now

The people in the comments are amazing, like, half of them are saying “aren’t these the normal permissions for an fitness app?” And the answer is yes. Of course they are. Your regular fitness app is a takes a ton of data on you in order to function, and that data may or may not be stored with the company for a period of time.

But here’s the thing, when the FBI needs location data on someone, they need a WARRANT to get that information from that company, or that company’s cooperation. Back in the early 2000s, there were a number of companies that simply handed over data to letter agencies like the NSA or FBI, and they got roasted for it by their customers. Don’t fool yourself, the only reason why backdoors weren’t coded into your phones by companies like Apple is because they did the math and realized that the cost of cooperating and alienating their customer base was too high, not because these companies have ethics.

So we live in a climate where companies are promising users security and privacy, and when they don’t it’s a scandal that loses them customers and money. They aren’t playing nice with the FBI, so what is the FBI to do? Easy. Circumvent silicon valley.

There is exactly zero reason for the FBI, as an organization, to make entertainment apps. Educational is maybe in line with past practices, but even when they did stuff like that in the 90s, we called it out for the propaganda it was. This app is absolutely a trojan horse. This is so they can get the data you would normally give to a 3rd party company without a warrant.

Please, ffs, learn internet history. Go take a look at the EFF website and archives. Look up the patriot act and the AT&T scandal with the NSA from around 2004. Lots of people on here were barely children pre 9/11, but you can’t possibly understand surveillance and internet policing until you understand what happened to society and privacy from 2001-2010

The whole “capitalism gave you the Internet” thing is especially funny if you actually work in network infrastructure, since one of the first things you’ll learn is that many software technologies that are absolutely critical to the day to day functioning of the Internet are being maintained on a volunteer basis by small, decentralised teams working in whatever free time their day jobs leave them, and that we’d have a crisis on our hands within thirty days if any one of those maintainers were to get hit by a bus and nobody stepped up to replace them. Like, the whole commercial edifice of the Internet rests on the continuous unpaid labour of a relative handful of people who are essentially just doing it for fun.
