Ohhh Musk has no idea how badly he's fucked up

  • The strike was initiated by IF Metall after five years of Tesla refusing to negotiate a collective agreement.
  • It is the first formal labor conflict called against Tesla anywhere in the world.
  • The National Mediation Office summoned both parties, but Tesla's representatives quickly withdrew from negotiations.
  • The strike was then extended to include all repair shops servicing Tesla vehicles in Sweden.
  • Swedish employer unions have also pressured Tesla to cave and align with the country's labour model.
  • Strikebreakers have been sent in, a tactic forbidden since the 1930s by agreement between the Swedish unions and employers. (Ie. not illegal but liable to make the entire country hate you.)
As noted by Atle Høie, general secretary of IndustriALL, an industrial union confederation representing 50 million workers in 140 countries: “Elon Musk’s business model is to avoid respecting human rights. Now he is taken on by one of our strongest unions. We must defeat the Tesla business model, and Sweden is the best place to start.”

Sweden has one of the highest rates of unionization out of the Nordics (which have the highest rates of unionization globally alongside Cuba and Vietnam) and the thing about that is you get sympathy strikes:

There's already talk of launching similar strikes here in Norway if the Swedes aren't heard. For an idea of what happens if they keep this up, let's look at the time McDonald's tried these kinds of tactics:

Or Toys R Us:

Tesla's presence in the country is limited compared to those, but I think it's fair to say their choice is going to be between pulling out or caving to their demands, because these kinds of threats to union power are not tolerated.

If you've seen news declaring the strike was called off and that the workers are all happy with their jobs: It's misinfo, those are scabs, the strike is on and it could very well break Tesla's resistance to unionization and trigger a domino effect in other countries if the Swedes win out.

The import blockade began in select cities today, and Tesla has already tired to get around it. The unions have responded by extending the blockade to every port in the country, with further measures in the works if Musk refuses to budge.

With Musk controlling Twitter/X now, discussions about it on there are predictably filled with trolls and detractors. The workers at Tesla could all be tremendously happy with their jobs and it would not change the fact that this is an attack on the entire labour model that gives other workers decent conditions. This is not just about Tesla, it's about preventing it from setting a precedent for other employers.

IF Metall have asked people to talk about this on social media, particularly on X, to counteract Musk's army of trolls and build awareness and support for the strikes, so please do if you can. Here's an up-to-date (Nov 7th) article in English which you can share:

Talk about it! Post about it! (Be more concise than me about it!) The hate they're getting from Musk's shills on X right now is insane.

Look, I see lots of posts on here that say it's okay if you feel a little lost in your 20s. I'm feeling that rn. And I just wanna know how many people feel like me. This is more like an open poll in the sense that YOU decide what you think is to have "your life together". If it's studying, having kids or marrying, etc. YOU decide what's your definition of it. We're all in this together and I'm giving you all a big hug. 💫

Ok, so I answered "yes, 21-25" BUT!

I am 22 years old. At 17, I wanted to take my own life and was actively harming myself. At 18, I ran away from home and went to live with my dad across the country. At 19, I was barely holding a shitty call center job, in and out of therapy, and didn't know what to do with myself. At 20, I moved in with my grandparents and had another breakdown, I was unemployed for 5 months. At 21 I was working at a dollar store and barely coasting, but getting better.

At 22, I have a job that I like, I am choosing to go to college, and I just applied for a second part time job in a field I'm interested in.

At 22, six months away from 23, I found hope and newfound passion. I finally began to understand how I can apply my skills and passions to the world, how I can make a difference, big or small.

At 22, I better understand my traumas and illnesses, and how I can heal & accomodate myself. I know how to seek out therapy that will actually help me.

Do I have a husband, a mortgage, 3 kids, a dog, and a stable career? HAH, no. But I have more hope, passion, and direction that I did 4 years ago. To me, that is having my life together.

Because guess what? Having your shit together is not some endgame goal post where you get to sit down and never have any problems again. Having your shit together is looking at your problems and deciding that you are sick of them, and that you are gonna take the steps to solve them, one baby step and one day at a time.

One minute at a time, one hour at a time, one day at a time, until that shit gets easy, then you move on to the next thing. You will figure it out, I promise

We thought my grandma had a tumor in her heart and it turns out she was born with a small hole in her heart (she was born at home in rural Appalachia in the early 1940s and had two older sisters who died within days of birth, spotty childhood medical care) and her body somehow fixed it. Built up scar tissue until her heart no longer had a hole. She gave birth to two children, lived a normal life and only had this diagnosed in her 70s. How cool is that? How badass is the human body?

My great grandma cut her leg and contracted tetanus in the 1930s and survived lockjaw untreated. It kills about 25% of the people it infects. It’s crazy to me that if either of these ladies weren’t so strong and badass, I wouldn’t be here.

It’s weird to think that your existence on this earth is dependent on a whole lineage of ‘near misses’ going back through eternity. A young lady falling in a stream while doing the washing and managing to pull herself out before her many shirts weighed her down and drowned her. A young man contracting the plague and being a part of that rare population that survived it, living the rest of his life knowing death was so very close. A man being shot with an arrow in war and laying fevered for weeks before his body fought off the infection and he hobbled home to his wife. A little baby girl being so fevered she loses her hearing but recovers and goes on to lead a full life. And backwards further. A young Neanderthal boy breaking his arm quite badly and being unable to hunt but being loved and cared for just the same. A little human girl wandering off and losing toes to frostbite 60000 years ago but returning home to her family and surviving. Surviving.

I actually don’t think that is necessarily true. You’re the product of the strongest communities in your lineage and those who were shown human kindness. You’re the product of midwives making the effort to correct a breech baby and saving your great great great grandmother’s life. You’re the product of neighbors lending their neighbor food in times of famine. You’re the product of the hunter-gatherer tribes taking the time and effort to care for their sick and injured. You’re the product of mercy, grace and the human collective. I think the ability for strength, resilience and endurance lives within us all. There may have been stronger people through history who didn’t have the luck, community and connections your ancestors did.

the smartest transphobes in the world: kys tranny

and people wonder why I say that transphobia is a danger to everyone.

I wish I was fucking joking

but sure "we can always tell" crowd telling a cis man to kill himself because they think he's trans. that totally normal behavior. terfs are totally just normal average members of society who want what's best for everyone. they totally aren't genocidal fascists who want to kill everyone who disagrees with them or anyone they simply don't like.

That's the reality of intersexism! Any bodily traits that can be deemed intersex are deemed a medical condition that needs to be dealt with, rather than a natural human variation.

Sex as a binary system is entirely a social construct just as much as gender is. It's fairly normal for people born with penises to develop breast tissue, just as it's normal for people born with vulvas to grow facial hair. But if we called those things normal human variations, we'd have to change how sex and gender are seen entirely in our society. A lot of people would lose a lot of money and control.

WAIT. Wait wait WAIT.

poltergeists:

  • push things off tables
  • break delicate objects for fun
  • in general just enjoy moving and destroying stuff for pleasure I guess
  • make loud disturbing noises in the middle of the night
  • sometimes poke or bite people, depending on the myth
  • are invisible aka no one knows what they look like

poltergeists are just the ghosts of rambunctious housecats

“The power of Christ says psspsspss! The power of Christ says psspsspss!”

*fills a spray bottle with holy water*

You sprinkle Miette with holy water? You get her ectoplasma damp?! Oh! Oh! Hell for Mother! Hell for Mother for thousands of years! 😾

That is the exact spot my parents found a stray kitten. Nice little addition to the family, but would have been a terrible addition to the pavement had she not been very vocal OTL

No joke, the place where that cat is resting in this picture is called a “dead cat hole” it’s an automotive term.  Don’t believe me, look it up.

This is also where I found a stray cat, she was up in there during a thunderstorm and I begged my dad to let me being her inside and that’s the story of how I got my first cat.

Please don’t skip over this without reading it and making a mental note. Even if you don’t have a car, tell your parents or whoever, and make sure to do this. You think that’ll never happen but that’s what everyone thought who had this happen and didn’t check, and that poor cold cat met with a terribly sad end.

My little sister accidentally killed our family cat this way. It was horrible. Save yourself and a cat some pain by just being a little more attentive.

DON’T SCROLL

reblogging again– already in my save tags but still

Even better: lift the hood and check, cats will get startled and easily jump out ALSO CHECK THE BUMPER, I know that cats can hide there too. LOOK THROUGH THE GRILLE!!

I know both from experience

The funniest thing I ever did on tumblr dot com is send myself an anon ask apologizing for a previous anonymous ask that was being transphobic. I then publicly answered to say, thank you for doing the right thing and then I turned off anonymous asks. That was 7 years ago, and I just found this sitting in my inbox:

Imagine logging on and seeing that your mortal enemy has finally decided to admit the truth after 7 years but now you’re being clowned on by 10 thousand people

this needs to be the new solution for obnoxious anon asks bc 1.) it's non combative and immediately fizzles out their objective of spreading hate 2.) it's funny as hell bc you immediately get control. you don't ever have to post their "THAT'S NOT ME" message and the only way for them to debunk it is to come off anon which. they won't lmao

Kitchen appliances I would recommend purchasing when moving out on your own:

  • Air fryer
  • One of those panini press grill things (not only can you make sandwiches but you can grill chicken and steak if you have an expensive model)
  • Rice cooker (not only good for rice but quinoa and any other grain, alternatively you could buy an Instapot)
  • Electric kettle (depends on how much tea you drink but it’s good for boiling water for cleaning and preheating water for pasta etc)

Kitchen appliances I would not recommend buying when you move out on your own:

  • Counter top coffee maker (you should not be drinking an entire pot of coffee on your own and it will be stale by the time you get to the bottom, plus these bitches suck to clean, Keurigs, French presses and stove top percolators where you make one or two cups at a time are more practical for a single person)

Here are some things it’s okay to buy off brand/cheap:

  • Cleaning supplies. Most cut rate sponges, bleach sprays, Clorox wipe knock offs and cleaning chemicals get the job done just fine.
  • Food staples like pasta, canned vegetables, rice etc.

Here are some things you should never buy off brand/cheap:

  • Trash bags. I made the mistake of buying Dollar General brand ones and they ripped several times, sending garbage all over my yard while I tried to take the trash out. I had to double and sometimes triple bag which was not economical in the long run.
  • Toilet paper. The two and one ply stuff sucks. You you have to use much more than you would if you bought quality paper.

Good luck and God bless you to any college freshmen out there.

toaster ovens are also very useful, much more than a regular toaster. you can do many things you can do in an oven, just faster and with less hassle

Captions on the tik tok: Welcome back to "self made is a toxic myth".

At just 14 years old, Taylor Swift moved to Nashville, and quickly signed with Sony Music and Big Machine Records. She then released her self titled debut album which quickly went platinum in 2006. Since then, Swift has had nothing but smash hit after smash hit. Including making history this year as the first artist to dominate the entire Top 10 on the billboard Hot 100 with Anti Hero. Wow, that's amazing! But I guess this goes to show that as long as you're talented and work hard and follow your dreams, eventually-

Yeah, what that narrative leaves out is that Taylor Swift was born rich. Taylor Swift's father is Scott Swift, former stockbroker for Merrill Lynch. Her mother is Andrea Gardiner, a former mutual funds executive. Swift grew up on an 11 acre Christmas tree farm.

Okay, so what, she grew up wealthy. Does that mean she didn't work hard? No, that's not what it means? Well, does that mean she's not talented? Nope, that's not what it means.

What it means is that when she was 9, she was regularly flying to New York for acting and singing lesson. What it means is that when she was 13, she was working with a talent manager who helped her secure a development deal with RCA. What it means is that when she was 14, her family had the resources to relocate to Nashville, so she could work on music full time. What it means is that every day after school, Taylor is working with experienced hit songwriters. What it means is that when a DreamWorks A and R executive wanted to start his own record label, called Big Machine Records, Taylor's father brought 3 percent worth of stock in the company, for somewhere between 120 K and 300 K, incentivizing him to push her album.

The reason this series exists is to remind my fellow indie artists to take it easy on ourselves, when you feel like you're not progressing in your career fast enough, even though you're talented and hard working too. Because talent and hard work are not enough. You've just been programmed to think that they are, by an endless parade of folks who conveniently downplay how big a role their various privileges played in their success.

After all, it's a lot easier to be an Anti Hero in a lavender haze, when you own the lavenders.

End captions.

It's literally science: Talent vs Luck: the role of randomness in success and failure This study came out last year and proves that luck (such as wealth) is an outsized contributor to success. That doesn't mean that hard work doesn't ever pay off! But a lot of times those big names are hiding the real secret: Mommy and Daddy's money. Not hitting "the big time" does not mean you aren't good! It means you are competing against people who already had a leg up and are pretending that they started at the same level.
