Saving the world...

@apollostowel / apollostowel.tumblr.com

Old enough to know better, too young to care. Kinda musician. Wannabe writer. My interests are many, but you wouldn't know it from this blog. Whovian, Capaldian, permanent spot in the Hangar of Shame.

My Doctor Who prediction, lock it in now:

IF Steven Moffat does show up to write an episode, there will be a blink and you miss it throwaway line that puts Gallifrey and Timelords back in the mix. Just this once all the time, everybody lives.

And then before his run is done, Russell will undo that and just this once they all die and leave the Doctor back in their usual pile of angst.*

*Offer null and void if Moffat doesn’t return.

Doctor Who era’s summarised with confusing spoilers

One: My kidnapper is annoying and won’t shut up.

Two: Are Scotsmen hot? Yes. Very.

Three: Are the military okay? No. Except that one Sergeant; he’s sweet.

Four: How many problems can be solved by confectionery and talking out of your arse? More than you would expect.

Five: Single father of three going to be great dad one day.

Six: Tailors are evil and so are the BBC.

Seven: Belief in communism will repel zombies.

Eight: What’s worse than death? The US healthcare system.

Nine: Finding people annoying is not mutually exclusive with overwhelming love for humanity.

Ten: Can a man be both a twink and a lesbian at once?

Eleven: Baby is also eldritch figure from dawn of time.

Twelve: Punk grandad just wants to play guitar.

Thirteen: Local woman under impression that constant longing looks at blonde lady friend definitely mean platonic affection.

Imagine if you were in a mosh pit and somewhere around the center you saw a nineteenth century English gentleman sipping tea out of an ornate porcelain teacup, matching saucer in hand and nobody was paying him any mind but out of pure chance like miracle level coincidence nobody was bumping into him they were passing him with mere millimeters of space and he was just standing there enjoying the music with a contented smirk

Unrelated gif of who that would be, inserted here.

The strangest dream that I ever had was where I was talking to Strax the Sontaran from Doctor Who and he claimed that he had gotten into Christianity in a big way because he thought that it was "admirably cunning of humanity to lure their God down to Earth in a mortal body so that they could DESTROY HIM!"

I want you to know that I read this in his voice and it was the funniest thing I've seen all week.

I hope that you also imagined him pumping his fist in VICTORIOUS JUBILATION

Time for Part 2! I shall probably do less typing for this because the place where I would usually put my laptop (my lap) is currently full of cat, which means laptop is sideways next to me at an angle that makes typing ouch.

Recap time and roll credits.

As mentioned in the review, sometimes the Doctor does wake up and choose violence.

And

Gather round guys and gals and non-binary pals, it’s time for End Of Time: Part One. And imma be honest with you, I don’t actually think I’ve watched this one since it aired because my primary memory is of not enjoying it. But that was three Doctors ago, so perhaps a little distance will make all the difference.

Starting with a voiceover about how it’s Christmas and we’re all going to have nightmares and the only person who remembers them is Wilf, who then goes to watch some carol singers in church.

Don’t look now, but Peter just dropped Beautiful and Weird, and Atlanta Vacant Lot, ahead of the release of his album St. Christopher, coming up later this week. Peter’s bit kicks off about 1h5min in.

Imagine having an album in you like this for 40 years. It’s worth the wait, this album is nothing short of amazing.

Remember to stay tuned for the St. Christopher listening party, where Peter will be joining the livetweet of this amazing album. Sunday 21st of November at 9pm UK time.

And of course, get St. Christopher here, you need this album in your life!

The fandom thinks the reveal of the Timeless Child changes the fact the Doctor became a hero from nothing. The Doctor still made the choice to run away all those years ago, chose to be kind after their encounter with Barbara and Ian. It reinforces the Doctor is more than just their past or relationship with Gallifrey, which was something RTD and Moffat kept glorifying and reinforcing. It sends the message of people who went through hell, still can choose to be kind. Those people contain multitudes like the Doctor does. That’s the thematic of the Timeless Child.

The Doctor still had the life of poverty and pain shown in Listen. It adds to why the child was crying in the barn (buried trauma) and why they threw him away like garbage. Empires get rid of the ones who made the greater sacrifice to seem more important than they actually are.
