It’s just a way of using his witchcraft powers on himself to transform into a human and sneak into his seaside palace all that, lwj wants to go with him bc he’s worried that wwx will be consumed by his powers.
in order for wwx to cast the spell on lwj, he needs to take his voice, the most powerful weapon of the lans, an entire sect built on magic and their history as sirens. so wwx promised to keep it safe for lan zhan, locking it away right where his core used to be.
together they traveled to the surface, and did what needed to be done.
when they return, barely making it out alive, they were met by the lans. rumours have spread that wwx was conspiring with the wens, tricking the poor hanguang jun and taking him as hostage. lwj did not hand the sea witch over. Instead, he pointed his sword against his elders.
