It's strange to see anyone surprised by Universal using a tactic as cruel as denying even shade to picket line members, in the heat-based hellscape that is Los Angeles. So let's try to condense the explanation.
By and large, executives are people who already come from wealth and privilege, and have that wealth and privilege protected throughout their life as they're escorted through whatever levels of education and then into employment.
Most of them have never received any kind of culture shock to make them aware of the struggles of 'lessers'. Their parents and peers had a vested interest in keeping the then-children from mixing with 'those people'.
They are insulated enough from daily life that they no longer see anyone outside their immediate wealth and influence bracket as human.
So a strike, to them, is not "people who want enough money to live and work in health", it's "The machine that makes us money is broken, get those workers back into their jobs so we can keep making money."
So the executives treat the strike like they would a broken machine or a disobedient pet. Hit it until it works, and replace it if it breaks.
And don't doubt for one minute that this wasn't at the advice of a Pinkerton or similar union-busting agency consultant. This is more than just petty; this is tactical cruely.
The truest sign we have Reddit refugees on this site is the fact tree law is trending.
Get their asses.
EDIT 7/19/23: THE CITY IS INVESTIGATINGGGGG
Actual footage of the Universal Studios* CEO "trimming" all of the shade trees at one of the L.A. WGA/SAG-AFTRA picket locations, so strikers have no protection from the intense heat of the sun

reading the receipts on how bethesda resorted to fucking extortion in a pathetic attempt to force Leona (a trans woman) to resign without pursuing a discrimination lawsuit by holding her fucking surgeries hostage & holy fuck
her experience at bethesda was a harrowing but depressingly familliar one filled with a sudden loss of respect by her superiors, public outing by her manager, falsified reports on her yearly review to convince corporate that she was a liability...
i struggle to find the words to descrive how i felt going through it all.
they were HOLDING HER SURGERIES HOSTAGE TO COERCE HER TO RESIGN
fuck this fucking industry. you cannot fix this. it is beyond saving
why does this woman from phineas and ferb look like rose . . .
The horror
I'm sorry the voices demanded I make this
NOW DRAW THE OTHER ONE AS ROXY PLEASE IM BEGGING
"the other one" "the mom" HER NAME IS LINDA
PSA: bot comments are taking over ao3
The above examples have been provided with the authors' permission to demonstrate what these look like.
Basic rundown:
- They are all 3 sentences long
- Perfect grammar, capitalization, and punctuation
- Like absolutely flawless English teacher-style writing with only a single exclamation mark, ever
- No mentions whatsoever of character names, settings, situations, or anything that could be tied to the story
- The usernames may be identical to people who exist on ao3, but the name is not clickable, and no profile is associated with it EXCEPT when you directly search for that name. What this means: the comments come from an unregistered (not logged in) reader, bots scrape the site for real usernames, attach that to the comment, and post
Please spread the word about this so authors can filter comments and report them accordingly
There has been some speculation about why this is happening at all, and the best guess is that this is a feature that AI-training story-scraping tools are implementing to try and make their browsing traffic look legitimate
what fresh hell is this?
I mean I'm not obsessed with them. Not at all, they're just so cute that I can't help but cry seeing them together 🥺🙏✨

Some of y’all clearly were normal and didn’t have a titanic obsession in elementary school bc I thought it was common knowledge that not even 40% of first class died on the titanic, those who did were majorly poor immigrants looking for a better life
