the more i think about mcu spider-man the more i don’t like mcu spider-man

like mcu twink peter will never have the depth of our friendly neighborhood spider-man. literally any time they try and make spider-man super cool with access to a ton of sick tech and everything i start to really lose interest. the appeal of spider-man to me is that he’s like just some guy who happens to have super powers. like you could just hang out with this dude. the “bigger” they make him the more he loses that.

actually i’m gonna elaborate on this further because spider-verse did this but they did it well and with purpose.

the peter from miles’ dimension was super over the top, kinda larger than life. as pointed out by peter b. several times. however unlike other times they’ve done this it wasn’t just to try and make spider-man look cool, it was all a part of miles’ narrative. miles was given huge shoes to fill and they used this as a tool to portray how small miles felt compared to peter.

but the difference between miles and mcu peter is that miles didn’t need any of that to become the spider-man he is today. one of his main role models in the film is peter b. who’s broke and off his game, but still manages to do amazing things.

that’s the appeal of spider-man. is that anyone can make a difference, no matter where you’re at in your life you can still be incredible.

Trump supporters who were endorsing the January 6th protest in D.C just a few hours and days ago, are now backtracking and blaming antifa for the actions of people in MAGA hats, QAnon shirts, and those waving Trump flags. Despite Proud Boys openly declaring attendance and plans to dress as antifascists, despite videos and photos of known Trump supporters in attendance, people who know no better are dismissing the violence as antifa infiltration. Anyway I hate almost everything about the way the Russos direct. between not telling Tom Holland who he’s fighting in a scene and the fact that they locked their actors in rooms for hours to read the whole infinity war script without letting them process it on their own, and then those scripts turning out to be fake, it’s very clear that they don’t care about telling a compelling story. Not only is it disrespectful to the actors, but a good director should want their actors to fully understand the show they’re making so they can get the best out of them and find new hidden nuances. They would want to create the best art possible. A good story can still be good after being spoiled, because the journey itself is the interesting part.

But the Russos are admitting with their very direction style that these movies aren’t intended to be art, they’re products.

What they did to Paul Bettany was particularly cruel imo. He’s dyslexic so it took him significantly longer than his cast mates to read the script and then, as @transphantom said, it turned out to be fake.

Honestly, I respect people’s desire to avoid spoilers for themselves, but this sort of insanity is just screaming “weak film” to me. They either think people won’t care without a mystery, or they think their plot won’t hold together if people have time to think.

Remember the LotR films? How people went to see them, and loved them? When they were largely faithful to decades old books, and the only spoilers were which scenes were skipped? This level of paranoia and insistance by both studio and some fans that the film must be experienced with no idea what will happen or it’s ruined is just WEIRD.

The “it’s okay to be scared” part, the weird soulless head turn, the awkward dialogue like everything about that movie just from the trailer seems terrible
