Antioch Actius Traipses About the Multiverse

@antioch-actius / antioch-actius.tumblr.com

NB Queer POC (all pronouns) in my mid twenties. [Please do not refer to me as gay- it was the slur of choice where I live].
I love history, anthropology, semitic languages, fantasy, and small mammals, especially forest and desert mammals. If you have a question about Semitic languages or general history/linguistics or just wanna discuss, you can just drop in immediately idc if we've never met . And any discussion or knowledge of that kind is very welcome.
Also, I have a deep and all encompassing obsessive hyperfixation with magic systems so if you tell me about yours I will ask you *so many questions*.

I fucking HATE what we have to do for money. I hate capitalism. I hate that we have built entire systems worshipping numbers that don’t fucking mean anything. I hate living in a world where these figures can be the difference between life and death. I hate that these numerical values are how we measure our worth. People kill for money, they work until they can barely stay standing for it, they debase themselves to the point of dehumanization just to earn a little extra. I have lost a disgusting amount of time, energy, and life to the mandatory pursuit of money in order to survive and exist with dignity. I’ve had enough.

If the Internet Archive wins this lawsuit, it could be an absolute game-changer for libraries.

Applying the first sale doctrine to digital content could enable libraries to simply buy e-books and lend them on a 1:1 basis rather than having to constantly renew their expensive contracts with vendors. Most public libraries use a huge chunk of their increasingly-limited funds on these licensing agreements, and if some of those funds are freed up they can go towards local communities. This isn’t just about keeping the Wayback Machine. This is about open access to information. This is about ending the artificial scarcity that tech monopolies have created.

Please make an account on Internet Archive, and consider donating.

Please use your local library and check out the FREE events and services they offer.

Please put pressure on the publishing houses involved in this lawsuit.

In the future, children will think our ways are strange. "Why do old people always grow so much milkweed in their gardens?" they'll say. "Why do old people always write down when the first bees and butterflies show up? Why do old people hate lawn grass so much? Why do old people like to sit outside and watch bees?"

We will try to explain to them that when we were young, most people's yards were almost entirely short grass with barely any flowers at all, and it was so commonplace to spray poisons to kill insects and weeds that it was feared monarch butterflies and American bumblebees would soon go extinct. We will show them pictures of sidewalks, shops, and houses surrounded by empty grass without any flowers or vegetables and they will stare at them like we stared at pictures of grimy children working in coal mines

We will be feeding our grandchildren strawberries and raspberries we grew in our gardens, dragging them along to the farmers' markets for tomatoes and eggs and goats milk and pickles and pecans and salsa and sunflower seed butter and jars of honey, as they complain and drag their feet because Gramma always stands around talking to people for like an HOUR

and we will say "When I was YOUR age, fruits and vegetables came from a supermarket and they were bred to get shipped 1000 miles in a truck and sit on shelves for weeks, and they tasted so sour and watery it was like eating paper compared to these ones. It wasn't even legal in some places to grow your own food"

and they will roll their eyes like yeah yeah just because everything was miserable in the 20s doesn't mean I have to have a smile on my face standing in the hot sun while you listen to that one guy talk about his bees FOREVER

But they will go, because there might be baby goats.

Vegans of tumblr, listen up. Harvesting agave in the quantities required so you dont have to eat honey is killing mexican long-nosed bats. They feed off the nectar and pollinate the plants. They need the agave. You want to help the environment? Go back to honey. Your liver and thyroid will thank you, as well. Agave is 90% fructose, which can cause a host of issues. Bye.

So let me get this straight ,vegans should stop eating the food of the Mexcian long-nosed bats, because the bats need it, and instead vegans should instead eat honey, the food of bees, that their larvae need, even though the bee populations are facing ecological issues as it stands.  10/10 post, dude.

Did you forget the whole part where only excess is taken and all their needs are met and then some orrrr?

Like, did you read it orrrrr?

Anyway, BUY HONEY SAVE BEES

It is a 10/10 post. Because OP is right.

Bees do not suffer when beekeepers take their honey, because experienced beekeepers do not take all of their honey, in fact, they leave plenty of honey left for the bees to consume over the winter. If we do not collect their honey, 1 of two things will happen.

1. they will leave for a bigger home. Which at first seems fine until you remember that bees are dying very quickly out in the wild.

or

2. They will start using the areas that they reserve for their young as a place to make more honey. This is bad because if no more young are being produced, then the hive will start to die out because no new workers are coming into the world, and the average live only 150 days, so it would also mean the loss of more bees.

So yeah, eating honey isn’t inhumane at all. In fact, you’re helping the bees by eating what they produce and giving money to the bee keepers who are the ones making sure that the hive will keep being healthy.

LOUDER FOR THE VEGANS IN THE BACK: use honey, not agave! Bees need your support and other animals need agave! Using honey means more bees!!

Other animal products that are absolutely fine to use because they produce it in excess:

- Wool. Sheep need to be sheared or their wool will get excessively large, matted and gross. Its legit just a haircut. Calm down and use wool instead of whatever fake acrylic microplastic shit they have in stores now. Wool is super warm, insulating, and guess what! It grows back! Its a renewable resource and all the sheep want in return is some good pasture and protection from predators.

- Eggs. I’m not talking about storebought eggs. Go to your local farmer’s market. Find someone around with chickens/ducks. These birds produce eggs literally every day and will not stop unless they are molting, brooding, or kept in the dark for most of the day. Like I am not joking when I say you can very easily find someone with poultry and they will beg you to take some eggs. Theres so many. Please. Take some duck eggs. I dont want them. I had 8 laying ducks last year. Thats 8 eggs every day. Thats 2 dozen eggs every THREE DAYS. Thats SO MANY EGGS PLEASE TAKE SOME EGGS

Reducing animal cruelty does not mean abolish the use of animal products. Go eat honey. Go use wool. Go find a friend with birds and eat eggs, or get your own. Just because it comes from an animal does not make it cruel.

i now understand dessert recipes with like, six eggs.

it’s so funny to me when terfs and other transphobes talk about “biological pronouns”

you realise there is nothing about a vulva that means you have to call someone who has one “she”, right? and nothing about a penis that means you have to call someone who has one “he”? like that is literally a socially constructed idea based on the perceived gender of a person with a certain set of genitals.

you cannot be actually critical of gender if you are not critical of the ideas about it that society has created, you fucking clowns 💀

Honestly. If pronouns were biological then why are they different in every single language?

^^^^^^^

My second language is German, where “she” and “they” are literally the same word.

And I swear there are languages where there is literally no gendered pronouns at all.

Just shows how UK and US centric TERFs are that they say this shit 💀

iirc there’s an african language that has no gendered pronouns, which is why people who speak it as a first language will sometimes use gendered pronouns interchangeably when speaking english bc to them they all mean the same thing. i think there’s a scandinavian language that does this too.

i had to pull this out of the tags bc this is so interesting! this makes me wonder how a language not having gendered pronouns affects the way gender is seen sociologically.

Makes me think we only just avoided a timeline where "the ravenette" was linguistically mandantory

In vietnamese pronouns depend far more on age than gender. If you're younger than me, you have no gender.

yall... most of the world's languages don't have gendered pronouns.

never forget serafinski, a Jewish Anarchist at that, also says in the same work which is being presented here as “reactionary” that:

“Inside of the Nazi concentration camps, places meticulously designed to subjugate and exterminate human beings, people organized, conspired, sabotaged, and reflexively fought back against their oppressors. Though there are certainly lessons to be taken from World War II about the potential for whole populations to be rendered docile, there are also lessons about what it means to defy pacification in extraordinarily bleak circumstances. When we forget these kinds of stories, we forget about our own capacities for resistance. This text is about telling those stories and letting them become part of our own struggles.”

they later made a post which basically dissolves into telling Jewish survivors of the Shoah, “well, you'd look much better if you'd smile” via a Castro quote.

fuck them.

fuck antisemitism.

and long live resistance.

I wanted to talk about this even if it deviates from the antisemitism point and focuses on the ideological praxis of anarcho-nihilism. Hence why I reblogged it. First off, when dealing with post-liberalism, note that every ideology from socialism to fascism and even anarchism deals with varying degrees of nihilism because in essence you are ascribing that there is no ultimate decider of things amongst a whole and that there is a will to power over others based on whatever hierarchy you want to ascribe it to. You are always rejecting a part of Enlightenment and delving into existentialism. Anarchy wants to abolish power defined as the ability to make others do what they don’t want to and Fascism celebrates it and fetishizes it. So one could say that anarcho-nihilists are just seeing it clearly and that is why some people see left ideology as eerily close to Fascism when it’s not. In fact, that is why most post-capitalist ideologies often get conflated as the same to people who are often ideologically illiterate.

However, I think of my favorite anarcho-nihilist, Kaneko Fumiko, and I think of the despair that she ordained to get where she was. Initially, I was confused why both of her memoirs start with a background summary of her life, but then I got it. People read her book and think she and most anarcho-nihilists like above are just edgy reactionaries “who went too far” but one often has to decenter themselves to actually get where people like this are coming from. They are seeing the hopelessness of the situation because they are often in a hopeless situation and instead of sullying and falling into despair, people like Kaneko opt to act and resist to their final breath. If Kaneko did succeed in killing the Japanese Emperor and his lineage, there would have not been a World War II in the Pacific and there was not have been Japanese Concentration Camps or this hyper nationalism that still plagues that country today. She saw the construction of society rewarding the most vulgar characterization of human nature and basically said, “Fuck it. Let’s go.”

And that is why I love Anarcho-nihilists. They don’t bother with the optics. They don’t bother being sealioned into discourse like we all collectively been forced into when we have to rationalize being empathetic and justifying our humanity. We, in movement circles, often have to play the role as archivist of our cultures, historian, and public relations out of being forced to endlessly debate, discourse, and tend to optics because we live in society that overemphasizes personal responsibility over systemic action. They don’t bother with that shit because ultimately, it doesn’t matter.  It’s all bullshit. Anarcho-nihilists are always on go and never have to beg them to do hard asks. And maybe people see their hopelessness as them giving up. Quite the contrary, their hopelessness expands the scope of their praxis.

thinking about this older Black lesbian i met once (genuinely older, like, in her 50s), who said that while she's polyamorous she's not in a polycule, she's part of a galaxy. she explained that some people were planets, they were a big part of her life and very consistently present, others were comets, only in her life for a little while but enjoyably so, and others were moons, present, but not as present or consistent as others. and the way she talked about it and the smile on her face were both beautiful.

i just really love this idea. way too many polyamory set ups are like "this is my wife and my almost-wife", just echoing straight marriages with a small twist, and not only is this a model that breaks away from that, it also allows for like, the reality of how even the people who love you might not always be available, whether because of time or distance or disability, and that's okay. i think i might adopt this model, actually.

this is, of course, where the tumblr revamp would always lead. Just in time for Pride month, the "Queerest Place on the Internet" is attempting to crack down on fags like us for self-identifying with slurs, rather than doing something beneficial like reducing the large ever present transphobe/terf population. Advertiser friendly is the name of the game and I'm sure in a few years this site will be identical to every other sterile neutered social media site available. Have fun while it lasts folks.

this comes right after they stole your joke too funnily enough (about.tumblr.com)

THEY MUGGED ME IN BROAD DAYLIGHT AND THEN SHOT ME IN THE FUCKING HEAD

The 1987 Montreal Protocol, which phased out the production and use of chemicals that were depleting the ozone layer, has long been considered one of the most successful environmental treaties in history. New research finds that the global pact achieved another unforeseen benefit: delaying the melting of Arctic sea ice.

In a study published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers from the University of Exeter and Columbia University found that the implementation of the Montreal Protocol is delaying the first ice-free Arctic summer by up to 15 years. That’s because the chemicals banned under the agreement are also potent greenhouse gases.

“Our results show that the climate benefits from the Montreal Protocol are not in some faraway future: the protocol is delaying the melting of Arctic sea ice at this very moment,” Lorenzo Polvani, one of the study’s authors, said in a press release.

The study authors ran a series of climate models based on two different scenarios: one that included levels of ozone-depleting substances that would be expected if the Montreal Protocol never existed, and another accounting for the global treaty. The researchers concluded that the protocol is postponing the first ice-free Arctic summer by a decade or more, and entirely due to the phasedown of ozone-depleting chemicals.

The Montreal Protocol was created to address a hole in the stratospheric ozone layer over the Antarctic. The ozone layer protects the Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation that causes skin cancer and cataracts in humans. The treaty phased out almost 100 chemicals — including aerosols used in hair spray and other products, refrigerants, and solvents — that were found to be responsible for destroying stratospheric ozone.

Those banned chemicals, collectively called ozone-depleting substances, or ODS, are also potent greenhouse gases, with up to tens of thousands times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide. The report authors estimate that 1 metric ton of avoided ODS emissions leads to 7,000 square meters (more than 75,000 square feet) of avoided Arctic sea loss. By way of comparison, 1 metric ton of carbon dioxide emissions results in about 3 square meters (about 32 square feet) of sea ice loss.

Given the potency of ODSs as a greenhouse gas, the authors are not surprised at this outsize impact on Arctic sea ice levels. “Nonetheless, such a large mitigating impact of the Montreal Protocol on Arctic sea ice loss is remarkable if one keeps in mind that the protocol was aimed at preventing ozone depletion in the Antarctic stratosphere, and little was known of its effect on Arctic sea ice when the protocol was signed,” the authors noted.

According to their projections, the Montreal Protocol has already prevented more than half a million square kilometers (about 193,000 square miles) of sea ice loss. By 2030, that amount will rise to more than 1 million square kilometers, and to 2 million square kilometers of prevented Arctic sea ice loss by 2040.
